timberjack460 actually it depends on size of battle whether other fire sounds are strongh enough to cover the sound. Games like Rising storm enable you to use the "ping trick" to fool your enemy into thinking you're reloading.

3:04 That was my favorite for the weirdest reason. Personally, I love when developers put in little details to get closer to realism and I love the fact that the barrel is smoking after unloading an entire clip. Not to mention how realistically the smoke is animated.

A Hippopotamus the statement that "you don't have to slam the bolt foreward" is sometimes false. It's most often with people that don't have much experience with firearms that will make these claims. It all depends on the tightness of the clip and smoothness of the bolt.

Hey, aside from graphic wise, I really liked the campaigns in 3 lol. Feel very movie-like, features some of the nations rarely mentioned in WW2 like the Canadians and the Polish, and it has one of the most kickass themes of all games (seriously, just listen to it). Shame that it's only on consoles. Would love for it to be on PC as well...

M1 Owner here. The best representation overall of the M1 I have ever seen in a game is in Rising Storm 2: Vietnam. I cannot stress enough how accurate the whole thing feels in-game. The sounds are the most accurate to any other game out there. If you want the best representation of handling the M1, I’d say Hell Let Loose is where you’ll find it. It’s so friggin impressive how they managed to make the rifle “feel” the way a real one does, they translated physical attributes and characteristics into the virtual world so perfectly there. The way the rifle points, the “weight” of the rifle, the reloading, everything is perfect. In this vid, best representation of sight picture can be found at 3:50 in Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30. One of the things about EVERY rifle with a peep-sight for irons that is so hard to translate into the virtual world is sight picture. Think of how abysmal the M1’s ADS looked in COD WW2. In all reality, the sight is super small, and it takes a lot of muscle memory and eyesight-training to get a perfect sight picture on an iron sight. I think Brothers in Arms did a great job with this by not only lowering your field of view by a large portion, but also by feathering/blurring the sides of the peep-sight. That’s what it looks like, fellas. Nobody will read this, but thought I’d share, owning a handful of M1’s, and playing just about every world war game out there haha. If you read this far, thanks!

Can someone tell me why there are some games that the bolt stays back and the character pushes it forward after they load the clip, and others where they do it the US Army way by holding back the action till the clip is loaded then let it go all at once? I know you can load a garand without doing it the US Army way but in a WW2 game shouldn't they do it since they were most likely trained to?

Happy Mask Salesman I've seen gameplay of black ops 1 on Wii, and it's quite scary!

Why is it that so many of these games get the reload wrong? The bolt is automatic. So whenever you see them force it forward, it is wrong (except New Vegas, because being hundreds of years old probably jams it a little). And whenever someone loads the gun with only their thumb, I have to cringe. That's a lot of guys who are going to get Garand Thumb. The way to avoid Garand Thumb is to brace your hand against the bolt while your thumb presses the clip into an upwards pointing rifle, then you quickly pull out your thumb and release the bolt. It may occasionally not go automatically, but all you have to do is lightly shift the bolt, not forcing it forward.

Bryce Mckenzie Bryce Mckenzie I can tell you've never handled the rifle lmao. Garand thumb is basically a myth, the only conceivable way to get it is if the bolt is resting on the follower and you push the follower down. The oprod on my M1 is a little bent, as most are, and the clips I have are also pretty tight, again as most are, so you have to ram the push the bolt home. Basically, as long as you have pressure down on the top round, the bolt won't close, assuming that you're stronger than the rifle.

I own an M1, i have to push the handle 90% of the time. No don't call my rifle dirty. Garand thump is the biggest myth, it is impossible to get your finger stuck unless you really try to.

@@dontquestionmyname5490 I own an M1 as well... but Garand Thumb is not a myth. I've handed that rifle over to many a shooter who doesnt load it properly and they get pinched. Now... losing your thumb is probably the myth part. But I've seen it take some skin off people and they never wanted to shoot it again because of that. Kind of like how slide bite on a semi auto isnt a big issue unless you're holding the gun too high up, yet I see people get it from time to time.

one thing that angers me is that the rear sight in most games is wayy too open than the real m1 garand

Jim S I’ve seen a few guns with sights of an M1 and the rear sight hole is tiny. I have an air soft M14 which uses similar sights as the M1 and the rear sight hole is tiny on it too.

Well, since irl, when you focus through the eye of the rear sight, the field of view actually widens a little bit. So I'd imagine that video games make the rear sight more open to simplify this effect.

So weird that some games left out the iconic ping! Thanks for the great vid! :D

That would be something, huh. I noticed its not uncommon for various media outlets to get caliber and metrics mixed up. For example I saw on some TV show they called a .45 pistol a 45mm, or I remember in an interview with an A-10 pilot, the newsman said it fired .30 caliber bullets. Its kind of sad in the lack of common sense that people tend to have.

NS PU Well i wouldn't really blame them on not having common sense. It may seem like common sense to firearms enthusiasts but to normies, you're expecting too much from them. I don't expect non-car guys to know the difference between an LS7 and an LS9 or what makes the Voodoo 5.2 different from the Coyote 5.0 and what the difference between those and the Ford Modular V8 is compared to an LS3. Thats like me saying "its a shame people don't have the common sense to realize that Subaru's EJ20 is a boxer engine and not an I4". Yes because ordinary everyday people know what an EJ20 is let alone the term "boxer engine" or "inline 4". You can't chalk it up to people not having common sense. Ask them about the PAK FA and what Tier it is. They don't have a clue what that is or what fighter jet tiers even are. Hell, you probably wouldn't know what I was referring to if you didn't google "PAK FA". Its not common sense to know what the R-35 GT-R and its VR38DETT is let alone its older brother the R-34 and its glorious RB26DETT. Pretty sure most normal people don't even know what the difference between AWD and 4WD is, can't expect them to know the difference between BHP and WHP now can we? Plus its the media, its really not that surprising.

I think I can understand calling millimetre measures caliber because it is a bit more obscure but I feel like people should realise that a 45mm or 30mm would be pretty big.

Actually you can't physically reload the m1 in order for it to be reloaded the entire bandlier has to be emptied before any reload can be attempted.

3:32 Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood has the most realistic depiction of the Iron sights I have seen in a while. Authentically small rear aperture in the 3D model. When aimed through, the rear portion of the sights are out of focus (blurred out) while the front sight is in focus. Your field of view is restricted to just behind the sight rather than the entire back of the receiver, allowing you to more easily pick out the details of your target. This is what "Ghost Ring" iron sights look like gentlemen. More games need to do this.

The COD 2 ping is just so nostalgic to me. The first video game. Ever played. I was probably 6 or 7. 19 now and I still think about that game, and even go back to play it every now and again.

I wish we could get a new brothers in arms game :(
