MG ZS EV Review | 10 Things to Know | Autocar India

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

MG's second offering for India promises to be a direct rival to the Hyundai Kona Electric and sit slightly above the upcoming Tata Nexon EV. Shapur Kotwal drove it a few months ago, but now we've got a chance to spend a bit more time with it. Gavin D'Souza brings you 10 interesting things you should know about the MG ZS EV.

Viewers! The MG ZS EV has now been launched at a price of Rs 20.88 lakh (ex-showroom) for the lower Excite variant and Rs 23.58 lakh (ex-showroom) for the Exclusive variant we have tested. Plus, those who booked the car before Jan 17, 2020 pay Rs 1 lakh less than the list price! But what do you think of the price? Would you consider buying one? #TeamAutocar

if we get this car under 15 to 18 lakhs including on road price... it will be good.. And increasing more kms range atleast for 600kms is better.. Why don't mg and tata not prefered to install solar panels on top of car? May be solar panels may increase some kms range.. if charging stations are not available in between 500kms range providing some solar or alternative charging while running or travelling with car can helpful..

Oh, thank heavens, I thought that I was the only one who saw a very strong resemblance. We don't get any new MG vehicles here in USA, not sure if this would sell here. We do have a few vehicles that are sold here but built in China, though I believe the majority of the car buying public are unaware. Just as Japanese and Korean vehicles faced an uphill battle to establish themselves, selling first on their bargain prices, these MG vehicles might have to be much better and much cheaper than their other Asian competitors to get a foothold.

People who are being negative need to realise that evs are the future. We need ev if we need to survive in cities. It won't be long before we need to start wearing gas masks just to survive in cities. I am not saying ev dont have environmental impact. But we need to do something if we have to leave something for our kids. If we dont act now it's not gonna matter if it's too late.

People's will accept electric vehicles if they have maximum number of stations with minimum distance like bus stops, because every car will take minimum 1 hour to charge 60-80% with fast charging support. In India where population of peoples and cars is more so its hard to convince people stay in a queue for charges your vehicle where other vehicles in queue will also take minimum hour to charge 😅 so waste your day on charging stations queue 😄

Thank god , brookesfield mall, Coimbatore has an ev charging station. Otherwise we would have to take a room in coimbatore and charge our car in that hotel(if the hotel allows, lol🤣) which would approximately take 13-14 hours with portable charger available with the car.

I really like the interior quality, and is like a benchmark of sorts. But the Nexon EV will be more economically practical for people to switch over to electrics esp in cities, plus with a 8 year warranty from Tata it assures to be a better bet. Only thing is they must support customers like MG is with their EV

This is amazing car. Speed, style and feel of EV. Once you drive EV, diesel/patrol nothing will matter as power is incredible and almost no noise. Connected car tech is great. Gives 300km in city traffic on single charge. I juice up the car every 5th 6th day. Takes 6 hrs. Not bad. Plus don't have to go to patrol pump. That's great feeling. Highly recommend to test drive Nexon EV and MG ZS EV. Share your experience after test drive.

Scientifically engineered and built roads and people following traffic rules including speed limits on roads is more than enough to bridge the time gap until India's electricity needs are fulfilled solely by solar energy, both in terms of fuel consumption as well as emissions. Think about it, every time a damn two-wheeler zips up the road on the wrong side and causes even a single car to brake, the fuel and emission penalty is so much more than if the two-wheeler chose to ride along the flow of traffic to the next junction and took a u-turn. Now, multiply this phenomenon with the traffic density on our roads and imagine how much more fuel can be saved and how much more emissions can be reduced at a national level. A similar problem is caused by overloaded, under-powered trucks occupying the far right lane on highways which is solely meant to be an overtaking lane. One needs to only use this lane for overtaking and then move back into the middle/left lane (depending on whether it is a 6/4-lane highway respectively). This will not only increase average speeds on our highways, but also increase safety to a very large extent. Additionally, prescription of speed limits according to road size (30 kmph for residential roads, 50 kmph for main city roads, 70 kmph for dual carriageways for all vehicles and 80 kmph for trucks, 100 kmph for buses and 130 kmph for cars on 6-lane highways) and strict adherence to these limits would negate the necessity of four-wheelers to want to overtake two-wheelers. Of course, law-breakers also need to be dealt with through hefty fines irrespective of social status. If all the above is brought into effect, we can make do with BS6 and still pollute less than other countries while increasingly adopting HEVs and giving ample time for full EVs to be developed properly (i.e. taking into account the pollution caused by battery mfg., recycling and other related issues which people seem to conveniently forget, are just as polluting if not more, just because an EV has nothing coming out of its rear).

This is the MG that I like. Hector really pissed me off. Considering the EV push in the Indian market, it's great to have good options. May it start from the range of Nexon EV, to MG ZS EV to Hyundai Kona. Even if MG aggressively prices the ZS EV, the lower variant can compete with Nexon EV in terms of pricing & gizmos. The bigger trim can thus compete with Kona. Now, what's interesting to expect is the pricing & official range of Nexon EV that can boggle MG to some extent. Thanks for the review. Don't get bothered from my end to get a like. I am die hard Autocar India fan. ❤🙏

On-road price is the actual amount that the customer needs to pay to the vendor for buying a car or bike. It is higher than the ex-showroom price as it includes other charges apart from it. It includes a lifetime road tax, which the customer needs to pay. It also includes registration & insurance charges which also has to be renewed annually.

No. EVs based on multipurpose platforms don't usually have frunks. The exception is the Volvo XC40 Recharge.

While the car seems to have borrowed different elements from different manufacturers, for body looks like they opted for Maxda CX-5. If not for the price, I guess the car is decent. But again the first gen EVs are going to be pricy and its always a good idea to wait it out and let the infrastructure take its place before taking the plunge at which point these things should normalise.
