Back again, just finished this, and I gotta say, I love it. I had a check engine light for P121B which is the actuator, and this fixed it permanently. Quick question, I completed the install and one small issue. On the driver’s side, there is a hose right in front of the top screw. It was difficult to even get the original screw off but as I put the new assembly on the final screw on the motor, I just couldn’t get a socket on it. I did use threadlocker and hand tighten but do you have any suggestions to tighten with a tool.

Do you feel having it in track mode would make the throttle too touchy for a daily driver use on the SP? (not sure how much the throttle response changes between sport mode and track mode) I have an early 2015 SP so i'll probably need the springs. I'm weighing the price of this with the springs vs the TAZR.

  • @WorkPlayDrive

Personally the difference between driving in normal and sport mode takes a moment or two for me to get used to the Clutch release. Personally these make it much easier to just drive and not worry about it. For the auto track mode not only increases the throttle response but also makes the shifting points a little more aggressive and jerky

I don't see the active exhaust addressed in any of the mid muffler delete videos I've seen. Just cutting out the mufflers doesn't change the action of the active exaust.

Great install video. I have a 2018 Challenger Scat Pack and getting a random chirp from the back. After much research appears to be active exhaust. No error codes yet. When I put into Sport Mode, chirps go away…which confirms it must be AE. So I saw a couple of videos showing guys squirting WD-40 dry lube into the small port holes. I tried but still seems to chirp. I’m going to try another healthy squirt today and see if that will fix it, otherwise this looks like a good fix. I currently have a mid-muffler delete. So not sure how much louder the car will be with exhaust open. Thoughts? I had an appointment to take into dodge to repair…holding off until I know more…thanks again, very helpful understanding the AE.

Hello, I removed my midmufflers on my 16 hellcat and i'm getting a p1217 code but not one for the other side. I took off the actuator and put it back on and it seemed to fix the issue for about 2000 miles, but it came on recently again. Do you have anymore info on those performance codes and what can cause them, like a bad spring? I'm hesitant on installing the mfer, just out of respect for the neighbors, but the cel is definitely annoying, as I don't want to carry a code reader with me to clear it all the time. Any info you have would be great, since it seems like there is little to none out there on the forums.

P1217 has a few meanings but it’s usually the active exhaust. I know the early 2015 models had a smaller spring that would cause an issue. Have you gone under the car to see what’s going on with the active exhaust? Is the plug secure, has the spring slipped off?

There are grooves and drain holes in the assembly around the spring that lets all the elements flow through. My 2015 has been driven in the east coast winter for 4 winters now 3 winters at the time this video was done. As you can see no rust so there is no reason to spend any effort to improve. I remember your video where you put the scope on the exhaust and showed that it stayed open using the tazer in track mode, I'm curious if you happen to know what exactly sport mode does in a scat pack (to the exhaust valves)? There is a lot of conjecture on the forums with people saying that it opens the valves all the time, or sooner, but you are the go to mythbuster in this community so I thought I would ask. I have a manual and it seems like it may be a little louder but it could just be placebo, especially considering that the throttle response is more aggressive which has an effect on the sound as well.

Check your install the code means the valves did not successfully complete their full open and close cycle. Since the MFER-1 makes it easy to see the valves put your phone on the ground below the exhaust valves and record as you turn on the car. Then watch to see what is going on.

The service manual only states that the p1217 is due to the valve not completing it's full sweep. The system will try every 30 seconds for 20 minutes then on the next key cycle throw the light. It's possible when replacing the spring it may be on backwards or something is bound up.

The squeak like metal on metal is usually the butterfly, the electronic motor strain sequel this could also be the butterfly is stuck or the motor is bad. The easiest way to find out the issue is to remove the actuator and take note of the position, then turn the exhaust butterfly manually to see if you hear the squeak and it should be easy to move with your finger. if it squeaks or it's hard to move you have an issue. If it's easy to move then put it back together and hop under, have someone put the car in run with the engine off so you can hear and see what's going on with the motors.

Hey so I just installed some headers on my Dodge Challenger rt 2017 it cost me 2,000 for the headers I had some one install them and wen I start it up it makes a loud rubbing or scraping noise even wen I drove for bout 5 min then goes away it comes on every time I start up my car what do you think it could possibly be plz if anyone can help me 🙏

It could possibly be the active exhaust butterfly valves. To test what you can do is go underneath and just unplug the active exhaust modules. You will throw a check engine code if you drive it for more than 20 minutes but don’t worry about it because once you plug them back in drive the car for a bit then restart it will go away

If it turns out, it’s the valves, you can easily use an active exhaust delete kit to fix the problem.

active exhaust squeaks on low throttle on 2017 scatpack. would this fix that problem too?

  • @WorkPlayDrive

    @WorkPlayDrive

Most squeaks are in the butterfly mechanism, the metal on metal contact makes the noise so 90% of the time yes this will fix it because it locks the butterfly. I have seen some cases where the motor makes noise, in that rare case you will still hear it. The best way to tell is to remove both actuators and turn the butterflys back and forth quickly by hand. If you hear the squeak then you know for sure the MFER-1 will fix it. just be sure to take note of the original position when you remove the actuator, so when you are done you can turn it back.

Yes it will. There may be other metal parts under the car that may rattle due to vibrations, but gets rid of the annoying valve noises. Plus, it doesn't kill your MPG like driving in sport mode does.

  • @WorkPlayDrive

I’ve been thinking the same thing, that mid muffler delete is the cause of it, but mechanically I can’t see how that would damage the metal butterfly 🤷

@@WorkPlayDrive One the mechanics was saying it’s because there’s nothing in between to absorb the pressure on the valves but he wasn’t sure. I was thinking about ordering the MFER-1 tomorrow, do you think that’ll make the check engine light go away?

It all depends on what’s going on down there. If the actuator is bad you’re better off with the Zautomotive solution. What’s the code?
