Is it true that the Mexican government is now requiring a income of $50K to get a temporary residency, and $85k for a couple. If true, that would be devastating for many retirees, even if they could pay cash for a home. It would also hurt developers and realtors in retirement areas.

I'm not sure, I'll look into it, but I do know the monetary requirements have increased. While I know it's not good news for expats, it's excellent news for Mexico. Mexico is on the up and up, allowing a lot more Mexicans to buy in vacation spots like Ajijic and Puerto Vallarta, so developers are still selling quite well.
My husband is Mexican so he should be able to buy without restrictions?

Anyone can buy a home in Mexico, and it will be the same process as if you were a foreigner. The only difference is that if your husband has an RFC number, he'll qualify for tax exemptions if he decides to put money into the home or sell.
