I’m an American living in Australia. I feel these Aussies were probably very naive about how dangerous Mexico is. I lived in San Diego before moving to Australia and have been to Mexico many times over the years but would NEVER go the past 10 years or so- way too dangerous. I feel terrible for the families and can only imagine what happened to these poor guys. I also hate that some people imply they might have caused their own problems by doing things they shouldn’t have. I feel they were in the wrong place at the wrong time while trying to enjoy a surfing trip. So very sad and tragic. STAY OUT OF MEXICO!

Amen. So many laws have been decriminalized or people in places like Mexico pay off others to hide crimes and the criminals. In Psalms, David often wrote about the 10 years he was on the run. The current king was after David, and he grew weary of the chase. But then he with inspiration writes ‘Father where can I go on this earth where you are not’ I can’t hide from you no matter where I run. I feel comfort in knowing that no matter where these criminals hide or who they pay off, God knows it all. Heck, when Moses about 40 & killed an Egyptian hassling a Jew, Moses looked to the left then to the right. But he forgot to look up. They always forget to look to the Heavens, from where God on high sees the evil deeds of everyone, everywhere on earth.

  • @GraceEvans-us7uy

And no, justice doesn’t always come swift. Or fair. Or at all. That’s when we say to God. ‘I know you know this killer’s identity and where he is. I must trust this and let your vengeance take over. Not mine. Some will get bodies returned of loved ones, like a few in 9/11. Others remnants might be discovered decades later when DNA can now identify victims. Still other times loved ones die without ever knowing who killed say their son or daughter. I’ve had many losses similar to this. As a youth, I didn’t want to go on after a boyfriend was killed in car accident. I wandered lost for years, drank to try to forget. Nothing worked. Then I turned to counseling and 12 step work as well as group therapy with other survivors. When we connect with those who’ve had a loss equal to our own, it can keep us from slipping beneath the abyss. Strangely, it’s the way I intuited that Matthew Perry died. In fact, many have died when they slip beneath the surface of hot tubs or pools after enjoying drinks and or other substances. No judgment of these choices. But like surfing in Baja at this volatile world time ‘seemed’ safe, it was only an illusion. And 3 beautiful lives are gone now. I know loss like this. It takes time to move through the grieving process and we each have our own pace. But please, families, don’t isolate long, or drop your hobbies or classes or dating etc because you feel depressed, or guilty for going on w your life. The truth is, you are survivors now. The rules for life going forward have changed. It really will be ‘One Day at a Time ‘ or even one hour. But if you give yourself permission to go through the stages of grieving, God may guide you to set up a foundation of some kind. Or a 5K run selling name bracelets for the loved ones now gone. Or He may invite you to go on a speaking tour to schools or organizations about the importance of sports safety while traveling. God will always bring good out of what the evil have done. The trick is that you must be willing to invest the healing work so He can put you back together and move forward. It can happen, it happened to me because I invested myself in the recovery process. No, it’s not easy. But it sure beats the alternative of dying from a broken heart. G. E. M.Ed.

For anyone who thinks that there are still safe places in mexico, places like Cabo etcetera, I advise you to read the following: THERE IS NOWHERE THAT STAYS IN MEXICO ANYMORE, ESPECIALLY RESORT TOWNS. That's coming straight from a local Mexican man. He says even the resorts aren't safe anymore, especially the resorts, because American women are high prize for the cartel, and that's also where the wealthy Americans hang out. Double bonus. They have infiltrated these resorts and they troll these resorts constantly looking for the most suitable victims and an opportunity to strike. And if the moment doesn't arise, they throw discretion out the window and just do their business in front of God and everybody. I have an American friend who is of Mexican descent who just went to a small rural village in Mexico to visit her family for the first time ever. She thought it was safe there because she would be with Mexicans who were local. Wrong. She was not allowed to leave her uncle's side, she wasn't allowed to go anywhere by herself day or night, because the cartel has some rule where if they touch a female with one finger she then belongs to them, and nobody is going to help you, which is what happened to one of the uncle's friends. She was an American visiting there with her daughter a few years ago, and they were at some sort of festival in the town square with 200 other people, and two heavily-armed men appeared out of nowhere, grabbed the 16-year-old daughter and took off with her, and that girl has never been seen again. The whole family was screaming for help, but literally no one would help, they just stood by and watched. I have two other friends who are living "van life" and apparently they have also fallen for this notion that there are still safe places in mexico. They were camping in a spot somewhere on a beach in a populated resort town, where there were plenty of other people were around, in what is supposedly a "safe" place. They thought they were going to be safe because they locked their van doors at night, and kept the keys in the ignition. Okay, well when they first crossed the border, a Mexican policeman stopped them and asked them if they knew where they were going and if they needed directions. So they told him. Wrong move! Policemen do not pull you over to give you directions. They told him where they were going, foolishly, and at 2:00 a.m. three trucks rolled up and surrounded their van. Their tires were shot out, and when they wouldn't open the door, their windows were shot out. No problem. My female friend was filmed while she was sexually assaulted, and they had intentions of taking her with them but for whatever reason they ended up leaving her and taking my male friend instead. I think they were leery about the outrage of kidnapping and killing a pregnant woman, so they took her boyfriend instead, kidnapped him and he was going to be held for ransom and then killed, but he managed to get away somehow when the guys got into an altercation with some other guys, a rival gang or something I don't know. My friend's uncle told her that you're not even safe at resorts anymore, because the cartel runs the entire country, from your most popular resort towns, down to your small rural villages where the locals live as well. And even if you are at a public well-populated resort you're not safe because NOBODY is going to help you, everyone will just stand around and watch whatever it is happen, or look the other way and act like it's not happening at all. And those places like Cabo and other resort areas are where the cartel trolls for Americans. Everyone is terrified of the gangs and the cartel and if somebody grabs you, you're on your own. The police are either in league with the cartel, or they just stand by. They are powerless. Nobody's going to help you because everyone is terrified. My friend ended up coming home a week early. She was supposed to say for 3 weeks and she ended up coming home a week early because she was absolutely terrified. Her uncle told her that even men don't go anywhere alone in Mexico anymore. Local men. There's literally nowhere that's safe, ESPECIALLY resort towns, and down to your small rural villages. Like I said, even the local men go places armed and in groups. There is a reason these people are risking their lives and lives of their children to get the hell out of that place. Nowhere safe. And I mean nowhere, and especially if you are white, and especially if you are American, Canadian, British etc. IF YOU HAVE ANY SENSE OF SELF- PRESERVATION OR LOVE FOR YOURSELF OR YOUR FAMILY, YOU WON'T GO TO MEXICO.

Most people don’t equate surfing with danger AWAY from the beach. My guess is they expected to be in the surf a lot, stopping at friendly seeming cantinas along the way. Where could there be harm? Right? And it’s 3 of them, not one single. It’s too bad the 3 didn’t go surfing near Australia, New Zealand or maybe over to Hawaii. But ‘if’ is the biggest word in the English language. They chose Baja, then crossed paths unknowingly perhaps with evil people determined to steal/harm them. Maybe it was a longtime dream the 3 had, the timing seemed right, weather good. Blessed be to the families.

Nobody, in their right mind, should be going to Mexico - period.

What a horrible thing, I live in san diego and use to go to Mexico years ago but haven't gone back in 12 years due to the crime, cartels, and corruption. It's naive to think you as a white person can go there and statistically come back alive.

Funny that you leave the part were Americans are in cahoots with the cartels. Americans consume 80 percent of the world’s dope and sell military grade weapons to the cartels. If it’s a godforsaken place it’s because Americans made it that way by snorting everything they can. You hypocrite

Just when I started thinking about making small trip down there and see this story reminding me why I said to never go south of the border. I'll stick to my crappy breaks and keep my life and belongings.

The number of Americans killed in Mexico every year might be more than some might expect, with a significant percentage of those deaths attributed to homicide. According to data from the U.S. State Department, between January 2022 and June 2022 (6 months), there were 115 deaths of U.S. citizens.
