Metta & Glyde Trance Music Tutorial [Creating Ideas & Counter Melodies]
Музыка
Hi guys!
We have been asked a few times to create a tutorial on counter melodies. So here is one we have made on our workflow for creating ideas & writing counter melodies.
We hope it helps you out with your productions :)

Really nice tutorial! I like how you took the piano midi to then make the pad midi by chopping off the bass notes and doing some inversions.

A little late but anyway, absolute amazing Tutorial, thanks! Just bought some spire banks and your construction kits yesterday. Do you always work in mono when working on new tracks?
Absolutely brilliant tutorial. Please don't underestimate how helpful this will be to people. It will be appreciated by many I'm sure. I managed to get myself (mainly self-taught through KZread and a couple of studio days with a well-known trance producer) to a reasonable level of trance production a few years ago - though not quite professional release stage - but track construction, melody/bassline writing, knowledge of synths, basic sound design etc was there. But when it came to EQ-ing and removing unwanted frequencies from sounds, and optimal frequencies for bass, mids etc, I kind struggled to understand, and lost motivation to learn further. And eventually abandoned it. I currently have Logic Pro sat dormant on my Mac, and Focusrite Scarlett and Mackies up in the loft. This tutorial however seemed to trigger a bit of a spark. Maybe I'll fire up Logic again sometime.

Nice tut, guys. Always good to see how others work. I thought you guys worked in Ableton Live though?
@MettaGlyde
3 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Matt. We use Ableton to sequence our tracks & Bitwig to create ideas, as it's so good for doing that using the layer editing mode.
Hello guys, I loved the video, is it possible that you can tell which VST you were using for the piano and guitar? And the VST used for the reverb? thank you very much and good luck
Thanks gents. Great to see how you start putting it together. I noticed you used Rapid for the guitar sound (if I'm not mistaken). Is that the synth you would usually use for that type of sound? I seem to struggle to get a decent sounding guitar without turning to Kontakt.
@MettaGlyde
3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Dom. Rapid is great for most sounds, so we definitely recommend it. We use Kontakt as well for a lot of our sounds.
Love the chilled but still euphoric sound of this. Is there any tracks similar to this sound with the 16th semiquavers beneath the chilled synths on top?
Great tutorial, very useful! Do you keep the low part of the lead in the drop or do you remove it to make room for the bass?

Thank you, mate. We have our full melodies tutorial on sale at www.magsignaturesound.com or we offer online tuition if you wanted to learn more.
Awesome tutorial man! 😊 Do you think you could do one on how to make those types of sounds? I always struggle with leads and the guitar because I don't have kontakt ;-;

Great tutorial! Do you know if the lock midi feature you keep using can be done in logic?
@MettaGlyde
3 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Dave. We are unsure if Logic has that feature.
@DomHealy
3 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure it can be done in the same way as shown in Bitwig. You can lock the track(s) of course in Logic and then select multiple midi regions to view in the piano roll at the same time. But the problem is that if you move a note on one layer and there is a midi note underneath that is locked, you get a "Track locked" message and it automatically moves both notes back to where they were.
" Tomonari & Tommy pi - C Sharp " like at first time
Those bottom MIDI notes; do you generally use that pattern or do you vary it?
@MettaGlyde
3 жыл бұрын
It can vary. It really depends on the melody & what feeling/power you want from it.
What synth are you using for the guitar - sounds lush

@@djcarlosdematos That is one of our own presets. In our melody construction tutorial, available at www.magsignaturesound.com. We cover sound design & how to make a lead sound similar to this :)
I only got about 8 minutes in to the video. It's cool to see your process, but you're not actually explaining why you're making any of your choices... it just seems like a lot of trial and error, where you're dragging notes around randomly to see if they sound good. And if it's not random, you're not actually explaining the method behind what you're doing, which doesn't actually help me to learn how to do it myself except to maybe also just drag stuff around randomly to see if it sounds good.
Amazing !!!
