The reason Metric still sounds so amazing, and so "Metric" is the fact they were smart in never really keeping a consistent sound- save for the way Emily sings and what she sings about. It's always been a morbid, melancholy, sensual, moving, dark, deep water experience. Still love you Metric!

I hope more of the album is like this. I'm really liking it

Yes it's different but they prove change is a great thing. To me good artists always grow, and this is some significant growth.

You know a song is great when they can do it acoustically and it's even better. Love the vibe of this and then the tender acoustic version.

I feel like a proud parent, every thing metric does I LOVE! They can do no wrong in my eyes/ears.

i´m hearing the sound and i thinking, oh what it is? My sound of the eighties. The voice of the singer is grandious.

This honestly on of the coolest songs I've ever heard. I can't help feel relaxed while listening to this. Good for ignoring people on my bus.

Lol. This song sounds like it was written and performed by another of my favorite bands The Knife. Emily really branched out stylewise on this entire album. Slowly becoming one of my favorite Metric albums.

I'm kind of still trying to follow the direction of Metric as of recent. I still love and support them 100% but I do miss material similar to earlier albums like Old World Underground ('03) and Live It Out ('05) where there was just this pulsating drive in all the tracks that made you want to move. I'm interested in what the rest of Pagans in Vegas holds and hopefully it harkens back to some of the grungier aesthetic. Either way, few bands can say that they've had such a vast sound transformation which even in itself is incredibly impressive. So even though the current sound may not be exactly what I'm used to, it's nice to experience it and learn to like it through a group that I trust. Overall keep up the great work Emily, James, Josh, and Joule!! Look forward to seeing what else is on the album :)

I share the same view. Fantasies was what got me into metric and when I listened to their older stuff, I couldn't go back to Fantasies. Those older albums were so pulsating, unpredictable and raw! It was amazing. I honestly didn't like synthetica as an album. It didn't make me want to come back and listen to it endlessly after the initial new song effect wore off, unlike previous albums. I don't get why most of their songs in synthetica were dominated by instruments rather than vocals. However I do like the two new singles in a different way. Metric is my all time favourite band. I just want to see the metric of the old!

Omar Jaleel Interesting. Personally, Synthetica is my favorite of Metric's, followed by Fantasies, then Grow up & Blow Away. Live It Out and Old World Underground. So I like their new stuff and their old stuff, but there are a few tracks on those last two that just miss the mark. Still listenable, but I guess I prefer a bit of polish. What I've now heard of Pagans in Vegas has me looking forward to the rest.

I cannot stress enough for everyone to listen to the Dirt Road version. It’s so beautiful

@@JannetFenix No pun intended, but "Synthetica" MIGHT fit that description. (the feelings emoted by music are of course HIGHLY SUBJECTIVE/INDIVIDUALIZED, so my interpretation could OBVIOUSLY be FAR AWAY from yours.) If Synthetica doesn't do it for you, I'd bet at LEAST a COUPLE of the tracks on the Synthetica album will hit that sweet spot for you. YES ... I KNOW you asked your question THREE YEARS ago, but I JUST saw it ... :-)

Amazed at how diverse you are Metric! All your songs and vid's are so creative. Really like this one. Dig the synth and patch cords.

I was able to see them live on Tuesday night(2-16-16) and it was awesome. Front row and near the end of the show Emily got down from the stage and gave everyone in the front row a high five/handshake.

Cascades and Shades have this familiarity, this timing, life parallels.

Can't wait for the album, two great tracks so far! Hope we get one more track in July to get us through the long wait to September. Also, love watching all the Modules on the Snyth slowly getting patched in! So fitting for the song.

Saw this in concert last night in Montreal. Cascades made a huge impression on me. I'm an electronic music guy, and I love this. As an indicator, the two tracks last night that made the biggest impact on me were this and Death Cab's I Will Possess Your Heart.

Can't say I'm overall a fan of the new album, but this song is a total JAM.

Metric has the uncanny ability to grow from Grow up and Blow Away - old world, Fantasies to this and now Art of Doubt. Every album sounds fresh and new but yet sounds just like Metric! Many bands fall too far on one side or the other of that balance.

Awesome. Metric keeps progressing. Hope there is some awesome atmospheric guitar on the record as well though. I love synths, but Metric's guitar player is great providing that atmosphere. I actually wish he would solo more on the studio records like he does live.

I fucking love Metric...whatever they do! Fantasies was a departure and it was/is a great album especially Gimme Sympathy god that's a new classic for this millennium and so underrated it's fucking criminal! This one's gonna take some time to grow on me, it's wayyy retro electronica but still very 2015 at the same time just very different but I'm sure it will grow on me like Fantasies and Synthetica did cus I love both albums just as much as the old ones.
