Metallica Unforgiven solo cover

This was a very impromptu video. This is another one I tried to learn many many moons ago back when I was still using tabs(around a decade ago, or longer!). Thanks to KZread and Guitar Hero Metallica, I managed to learn it fairly quickly and get a fairly convincing tone too!
I added some extra delay in post just because I didn't feel I gave it enough on the Kemper, Also I listened to the original studio track and noticed the solo track isn't all that loud, so I tried to make sure mine sat nicely without popping too much either.
Enjoy! /,,/

@@sonicexperiments Many thanks! It might be a while yet until I get any proper covers done but it will happen eventually. I'm trying to upload some Sunday with Ola riff challenges every so often as they're pretty quick to do though!

A dirge piece Musical Death by testament would be a perfect cover to do since you have the talent and I am still struggling with Smoke on the Water.

That's an awesome request, and is definitely on the list already. I'm not sure I have the talent to pull of Skolnicks leads 100%, I do struggle with them mainly because I can't hear exactly what he's doing on the albums, the production quality isn't all that clear, it seems to blend together with everything else for me haha. I do have the gear though so getting the tone shouldn't be too difficult.

It's so strange to hear this solo played with in-tune bends, proper timing, flawless technique, good tone and a nice vibrato as compared to Kirk's sloppy original. Can we get Metallica to replace his studio version with your take, please...?

Haha thanks, I actually tried not to go crazy with the vibrato, but I don't know how to do that style of vibrato anymore 🤣

whats your impression on the tone from the kemper for regular applications like pantera or such? is it worth getting or better to keep the tubes?

  • @DomicidalCovers

Well that depends on quite a bit really, but firstly, how much do you know about Kempers and and modellers?

@@DomicidalCovers very little honestly, ive always had tube amps since i was younger. And always kinda heard they were weak so a steered clear. Now i kinda have the best side of a tube amp setup pedalboard etc. But looking for the daw recording and it seem as if the kemper may be easier for that type of application . However not sure. Would love some input. You feelings on the balls of tubes vs the balls of kempers. Thanks dude.

@@Moodster93 ahh okay, well I'll start off by saying it isn't just a straight tone of the Kemper, the Kemper is many amps in one. For example you can dial in your ideal tone from your tube amp and then profile(copy) that tone into a Kemper and if done successfully, it will sound near enough exact to your real amp. There are 2 ways of doing so.. 1. Is what's called a "studio" profile, which is copying the sound of your amp AND speaker using a microphone, which is especially handy if you want to record at night as you don't need a guitar cab or cab sim, and 2. Is a "Direct" profile, which is only recording the amp using a DI box, this is best used if you want to play the Kemper through your cab(this will give you an even more accurate tone imo). You can also combine the 2 profiles to create a merged profile, a lot of people say these are the most accurate but I've had the best results with a direct profile. If they don't sound exact, you can tweak a few other settings the kemper offers to help it get even closer. I hope this helps and I haven't confused you.
