Музыка

James Hetfield sat down with us at Guitar Center San Francisco and talked about becoming a musician, rising to fame with Metallica and even demoed his signature ESP LTD Signature Iron Cross guitar for us. The ESP LTD James Hetfield Signature Iron Cross is available now at Guitar Center: www.guitarcenter.com/ESP/LTD-...

I think the reason most who try and quit, is they never get to that F%$k yeah moment. Alex Lifeson's licks on the 2112 album hooked me into it around 85/86 I've gone 1 or 2 years at a time not playing, but always kept my gear. And something will inspire me to get at it again. Sitting right next to me as well. My les paul My 2nd guitar owned; that I still have... an old Japanese 80s Kamen super Strat, that by all logic should be, (meh!) but just has an evil growl and sustains forever. Peace brother.

i remember when this video came out, i’ll never forget it. i was going through my “metallica phase” and was just “enjoying playing covers” and i was getting really good; i thought i was just going to keep it a hobby, until i saw this. everything James says is so well thought out and comes straight from the heart, and it’s so inspirational and honest. THIS ALONE, made me want to be a professional guitar player. watching this as a 12 year old kid made me so excited and so inspired and so hopeful; i’d had never felt so inspired in my life by anybody before. i attended Berklee for a bit, and now i play lots of gigs, make money playing guitar, and get to do my own stuff on the side. james and GC can’t even fathom how many guitarists and musicians they’ve inspired with this. i had no friends growing up, music was all i had, and all i did growing up was sit in my room with my $50 yamaha junior size acoustic playing until my fingers were actually bleeding. this video alone did so much for me back then, and even still that holds true now. there will never be another band like metallica. and there will never be anyone like james.

James Hetfield told me how to play guitar 28 years ago through his music. When he is talking about playing guitar he talks right from my heart. When he riffs in this video even more. I watched this video for the 20th time now. I think you need to get older to understand who your inspirations in life was. For me at age 38 one of my biggest influences was him. I dont like everything he did in his career. But i can undestand it. Today i am playing everything from metal to jazz to blues and pop and more. But in my heart i will always play james hetfield rhythm guitar. I never understood soloing. When he says he always was into rhythm guitar i totally agreed and finally i understood. What a great video. I will watch it again and again. I know it

Playing drums on guitar. That’s basically how James sees it. The best rhythm players are very percussive. Soloing only makes sense to me in a short and subtle way, in certain parts of a song where adding a simple embellishment will add to the song and make it better. Too many soloists make it all about themselves instead of actually trying to make the song better. Yes, rhythm is where it’s at for me too.

I love the way he is now, but I will never forget the first time I saw the "EET FUK" guitar in 1989 with James COMMANDING the crowd and stalking the microphone like a lion feasting on a fresh kill. James is now a refined musician. He has the guitar chops in him to play anything, and although his voice left him years ago and he is trying to find a "sweet spot" with it lately, he is still trying nonetheless. At the end of the day, most of us have envy for his talent and success.

They had another guitarist but he was out in his compression bandages doing a show. At the beginning he said he would need a few breaks but we would get a full show. He took a few breaks backstage & a few breaks where he just sat down & told a story but we got a full, long show. That's where he got my respect as a human, you could tell he wasn't going to do just enough show to keep the tour going. He wanted to fans to get 100%.

I have loved VH since I was a kid (born in 1980), although my favorite musician is Sammy Hagar (He is still performing damn well for being 73 years old, unlike DLR, but I am a huge fan of the VH albums with Dave) who grew up where I did and still live. To me, it seemed more like VH and Metallica were both at the front of their game, and I assumed similar in age, but that they just were different styles. I didn't think of Metallica as the new guys, but then again I grew up listening to both without knowing much about the bands until the late 90's. They are all iconic guys and bands.

weirdly exactly what I expected and thought about from james. "I gotta stay to the ground, Im human" or "I get to do what I want and feed my family with it, it is a great gift". He is actually right.

Really appreciate James. He had a bullshit upbringing but made something of himself anyway. He's a good musician as well as being a good man. Struggled with alcoholism and overcame it. Blew out his voice, changed the way he sings and kept going. He's an inspiration.
