Like I always say, I'd rather listen to a blues influenced ensemble wailer like Slash all day than endure even five minutes of a classically influenced solo-specialist shredder. Slash said that he wanted to follow his own path, be his own man. Everyone in L.A was trying to be EVH at the time. All the hair band guitarists were playing BC Riches with bright colours. Slash came out sounding different playing a REALLY cool guitar. When Sweet Child O one came on tv in Australia I was hooked. It was just Slash’s sound, it was the the sound and look of the band. They were different, they stood out from the pack. They had attitude.

Now when the first few chords of Sweet Child of Mine play, is there anyone on earth who doesn’t recognize that tune and have a memory associated with it? That’s why Slash is one of the all time greats.

People say Slash is overrated...As a guitar player he fits very well what his music calls for...You have blues players ,Jazz players, country players.....He plays very well for what he is trying to convey....Comparing is very foolish...lots of fine guitar players.....just enjoy what they do.....All guitarist have their special talents.....and admire each other...that’s what makes it so important...it doesn’t get stale...Jeff Beck plays very different from say Eric Clapton...Yet on the beano album Beck might not sound as good ...each guy does something special....
