Great riffs, Devils Dance is heavy AF. Cliff was the one who even said they weren’t out there to play 1000mph the whole time. They’ve followed that to this day and a lot of people hate them for it. And also being a voice for up and coming artists trying to make a name who would’ve had their music grifted around everywhere for free, they hate them for that too.

I still miss Cliff so much. He was my favorite member even before they were famous. Another friend who's a great jazz fusion guitarist was in a band with Cliff way back in the day. He used to have these barn jams on the ranch his family owned that we would all go play at. Basically keg parties with mostly musicians. I saw Jimmy Martin (Faith No More) do the best guitar covers of _Heart Breaker_ and _War Pigs_ there too. He didn't just play them note for note though, he was perfectly copying the same "mistakes" Page and Iommi made on the original studio versions. I'll never forget how blown away I was by that. Most of us knew how to play those songs, even all the solos, but not like that. lols

To me, this is the trilogy: 1- I’m struggling to forgive them. Most angry. 2- I’m struggling to forgive you. Angry but reflective. 3- I’m struggling to forgive myself. Perhaps the most somber and reflective. Loneliness. Self-loathing.

Outlaw Torn is a must-listen. Easily the best song on Load, and arguably in the top 10 of Metallica songs. I would actually put it in my top 5, and I consider myself lucky to have seen it live in Chicago during their 1999-2000 MetaliniumTtour. It's never been part of a regular set, and they've only played it a handful of times.

Unforgiven 2 has some Unforgiven 1 references first the refrain in this song at 3:32 has the same lyrics with the ''What I've felt, What I've known'' then the ''So I dub thee Unforgiven'' at 7:21 and then also ''never free, never me'' at 7:38. Also Metallica did a little word play with ''are you unforgiven too?'' because this is Unforgiven 2 and they did the ''too'' yea you get it. Great Reaction.

I first heard this song in a pizza spot at camp pendleton when i was in infantry school in the marine corps it made me cry and made me miss home. I love this song to this day and its one of my all time favorites ever.

"Like I'm reading the book, before watching the movie" I absolutely love that, well said. I'd love to see you're reaction to "Low Man's Lyrics", "Hero of the Day" and "Momma Said"

PLEASE PLEASE Check out “No Leaf Clover” that they performed with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra. It’s absolute masterpiece and the reason Metallica is the greatest of All Time.

But you’ve gotta do the original release from S&M not S&M2... when the song was FIRST played for anyone... his singing in the at song and the reaction from the crowd that was the first to ever hear it makes that the better version in my eyes, ears and heart!

reading a book before watching the movie. perfectly put. the videos and the live stuff could ad stuff or remove stuff. listen to the original album version first. couldnt agree more

True. Some of these videos go pretty far afield of the human experiences that the song speaks to.

“Bleeding me”really shows James’ chops and versatility as well, same time frame-ish as first 2 Unforgivens

HERO OF THE DAY from the Load album is amzing!

James blew his voice out while they were making the black album. He had to go through for rehab, to get his voice back to record the rest of the black album. He sought help to get his voice back, he uses something monks use to train their vocal cords. He still until this day carries the same cassette tape to sings along to, to warm up before shows. Watch the “Cunning Stunts” movie they released. He sings along to it in that movie. This album he put to use what he learned to sing to his full ability, without blowing his voice out and straining etc.

'Bleeding me' is so good Jamel

It's not "paralyze" (bad lyric transcriber) it's"pair of lives." That changes the meaning a great deal. Love your reactions!

I’ve not heard this song in years and forgot how great it is. I might have to go pull out my Metallica cd’s and give them re-listen. I was really into them when I was 15/16 but it’s been a while.

Wait until you hear 'The Outlaw Torn'... it's breathtaking.

It always felt to me like this song was kind of a hybrid between the original "The Unforgiven" and their earlier song "Fade To Black" both musically and as far as their vibes go. Hell, the subject matter in the lyrics kind of also is a similar to both of those songs now that I think about it.

If I remember. James lost his voice. He was learning how to sing again. Some say it is in country style I don't carre I love them from Kill em all and load is part of Metallica hisory. Greatings from Poland keep on rocking 🤘

Diggin into the Metallica library...youre gonna be there a while...one of the greatest bands ever put together....period

Hear the call back to "Unforgiven 1" in the ending lines: "Never free, never me"

James really came into his own as a singer (and still is) and I respect him a lot for that. Some people don’t understand the level of musician he really is for the little amount of formal training he’s had. He can play the drums (better than Lars, probably), and piano as well.

There are some people who think III is not as good II which is not as good as I. And those people are my enemies! I kid. But III is amazing. They all are pretty great. But III feels the most present to me... it was written by a 40+ year-old James.

Since i know you listened to all three songs, here’s the different perspectives. The Unforgiven: They didn’t forgave him Unforgiven II: He can’t forgive them Unforgiven III: He can’t forgive himself

Social Distortion is a great rock band with a lot of emotional lyrics. A couple of good ones: When The Angels Sing Don't Take Me For Granted

The unforgiven trilogy have amongst the most significance of any music in my life for all the right AND wrong reasons. Very powerful stuff for me.

the word play in this song is what made this whole album in my opinion

I much prefer Unforgiven 2. So thrilled you covered it. I adore Metallica. Play as much as you want. The lyrics are always deep. The God Who Failed is amazing because James' family were Christian Scientists and his mother didn't seek treatment for the cancer that killed her because the family left it in God's hands.

Many meanings to be drawn from personal impressions to that of what it is really about. It almost feels like one is emerging from depression knowing there's another cycle and while he has a lifeline, she too suffers from her own depression/issues and the doubts and fears are multiplied in the unknowing darkness that is Depression.

I never knew there was 2 other parts to this epic Song 🎧

I love thesubtle humor James has in his songs... "Are You Unforgiven Too?" (Unforgiven Too/Unforgiven 2)

By far the best song off of Reload imo

If you've ever trusted yet had your heart broken in the end, you'll relate so much to the Unforgiven 2! But they're all masterpieces, IMO.

Would love to see you react to their song "Hero of the Day". One of their most underrated songs in my opinion.

As MetallicA are my favourite band people are often surprised when I tell them THIS is my favourite song of all time, it incredible, I love the them with these of inverting the usual, so a soft verse and heavy chorus which wasn’t the done thing back then.

It kinda feels to me like he is saying "The sins of the father are visited upon the sins of the son" kind of message. I think of it as he was talking to his parents in part 1, to himself in part 2 repeating the same mistakes his parents made by abusing his kids. (That is how I interpret the song and not what I think James is admitting to in real life as I know very little about his life.)

Great song on the Reload album

So many good Metallica songs still for you to discover from Load and Reload. Until it sleeps, King Nothing, Hero of the day. Fuel, the memory remains.

If I'm not mistaken, Unforgiven II was written after James went to rehab. I always liked the lyric at the end where he said, "I take this key and I bury it in you". It sounded like he was talking to his wife. The key being their kids, leaving them with her and they being the keys to his own soul. He was protecting them from his own demons.

Reload was my first Metallica Album (that I´ve bought myself) when I was 13... And this song has a special place in my heart - got my first kiss from a girl while listening to it :D

I just want to say that the, or at least one reason as to why his voice might sound different on these "newer" albums is because the singer (James Hetfield - if I remember correctly) started to take singing-lessons (from a professional) back in the days when they were to produce the "Black Album". Which I believe that the Unforgiven (1) is from - but correct me if I'm wrong. (It was indeed quite some time ago since I last listened to Metallica). Even though he of course could sing before that, but at least IMHO I think that his singing has become much more versatile - as well as more...hmmm, 'soulful'(?) - since that time. Keep up the good work - in keeping great music alive (and well)! -Just another Q: have you stopped reacting to songs? (I know that you've had quite some trouble in not getting blocked, but don't know just how bad your 'problem' is. (If so...that sucks - you are one of perhaps 3 people I like to check out in the 'Reaction'-section, so to speak. And you are my No.1-favorite!)

Love your channel Jemel AKA Jamal. I haven't seen you do a reaction to the 90's group CAKE? I searched and haven't found anything from you. You probably heard the songs and that's why you haven't done a reaction to them. I got into them after I left Tower Records in NYC where I worked for 16 years before leaving them for a new job because I saw the end was coming for that store when no one else did. But getting back to CAKE, I didn't care for them at the time they came out then I saw a movie that had their song The Distance. That made me look them up and I became a fan overnight.
