It shows that he can play the guitar even better and his iconic solos like Unforgiven etc. are live almost completely like on their records

James's guitar work in this song is always a treat to watch and listen too. The outro riffs aren't exactly the easiest ones to play either considering he pretty much uses the entire fretboard.

I never quite understood the hate towards Load and ReLoad era. The songs are very soulful, the lyrics powerful and relatable, and James' voice is more empowered and dynamic than before, we feel the harshness but also the feelings in it. I really love those albums, especially Load, and The Outlaw Torn is on my Top 10 Metallica's favorite songs. About this video: what a performance! 23 years after the song came out and it still sounds good live. A fucking awesome live performance for a fucking awesome song! Greetings from Brazil!

I'm mesmerized by the way James is just completely in the zone during his solo. When Kirk, Rob, and Lars just stood back and watched James in awe was so fucking cool, they just stared at him like "Wow". It's so cool to see how after all these years they are still passionate about each other's musical abilities. Gives me chills.

it was hard to take in for me, since the Concerts in both Australia And New Zealand were postponed due to this. especially when i got my ticket as a birthday present that my dad was holding on for 5 months, i would of been right at the front of the mosh pit if the show was still on, it would of been an experience of a life time. sadly it wont happen straight away but i hope james gets out sooner than later.

@@Raiyzor That definitely sucks, and that is an amazing experience for sure, I was fortunate to see them up close a couple of times, and its unforgettable. But you will get your chance. I think that they overextend themselves with such long tours. Hopefully James recovers quickly, and can rid himself of the bad influencers. I knew that something seemed off about him while watching these past few songs, while the performances were flawless, you can see pain in his eyes.

@lavender fields No doubt. As a father of three, I am sure that his kids will love him unconditionally. However, marital relationships get strained over time, and sometimes people grow to hate one another, especially if one person hasn't always been faithful. We will likely never know the brevity of his struggle, and I would not be surprised if marital problems play a key role. I hope that he gets well soon, and can find whatever it is that he needs to feel well enough to abandon his alcohol/other? addictions.

I hated load when it came out, but the reality is, it is one of the most unique metal albums ever made. So much soul and the lyrics are deeply emotional.

Load and ReLoad are criminally underrated and under appreciated. If taken for what they are they are great. No they aren't Black Album 2 or thrashy like everyone expected but they are 2 fantastic hard rock/metal albums with major blues influences. James' vocals were fantastic on these gems.

BTW, I had the good fortune to see them play this song live during their second Chicago show of January, 2000. Truly amazing to see live. Unfortunately, I missed them doing Trapped Under Ice during the second (or third) encore since my sister was not feeling well and had to go home. However, by sheer coincidence, I did see them play Trapped Under Ice a few years later in Peoria.

James’s vocals blew my mind here...

Seeing Kirk & Rob watching in awe of James playing at the end of the song gave me chills

After 30 years of listening to Metallica this is the one. This is the best song they ever wrote. This live version is great. It's weird watching it because it feels like the song is bigger than any of the band members up there playing it? if that makes any sense.

It's definitely up there for me but they also have songs like Master of Puppets, One, Blackened, Fade to Black, Battery, Orion, Seek and Destroy, Phantom Lord, Whiplash, To live is to die, Dyers Eve, Leper Messiah, Creeping Death, Ride the Lightning, etc so I wouldn't say that Outlaw Torn is the best song they wrote.

Bleeding me and Outlaw torn are so insanely good. This performance is absolutely badass. The bass sound is so heavy!

The song is criminally underrated. I wish they would play it more often.

This is just a warming up for S & M 2. Great performance!

For me Metallica is at their best when they just jam, the last quarter of Outlaw Torn is a great example. I've always absolutely loved the outro guitar solo James lays down here.

I've never heard James' voice without the backing of the usual instruments. His voice alone is just incredible, soulful, and yeah, I have tears in my eyes. I'd go on, but I'm still processing these weird things called emotions.

I just discovered this live version of this song and I’ve listened to it 100 times in 24hrs

One the most unrated but most powerful lyrics behind this masterpiece it’s really James Letter to his family and the Metallica family. We love you James. In 40th anniversary when they did Fixxxer at the end you can feel the emotion that which in most people with hit them and bring them to tears as well mine. James truly is the outlaw torn, he such a beautiful and tortured soul. He is what really makes this Band so great, yes you couldnt have Metallica without each of its parts, But James would be the biggest loss of any of them.

@Harvester of Sorrow Agreed. I know that many people hold Kill Em All dearly, but it's definitely Metallica's weakest album. It's still a fantastic album, but it was so primitive in its composition compared to their other albums. Honestly, a band's first album should never be their best album.

Everyone is just so tight and into it, Lars is hitting them heads like they owe him money, James sounds so powerful, Kirk and Rob are in the song and are holding it together like glue man, They’ve got to play more Load and Reload.

Outlaw Torn, Bleeding Me, Fixxxer, Low Man's Lyric. Those four songs alone make 90s Metallica legendary

The way Kirk tossed away the slide during his solo was smooth af

Masterpiece. James seems like he forgets he's singing. He just let it go the entire time. Even its fellows seems to know it and respect its state of mind... I can't stop seeing this video and music over and over again. In many ways it's powerful and at the same very, very human. God bless Metallica!

Love the album version, but my god this takes it to a whole new level. Especially the ending solo.

@@jasonx4008 Bleeding me is my favorite Metallica song, got to see them play it live in Wichita KS at my first legit rock concert when I was 16.

James just absolutely pouring himself into that solo, and then seeing Kirk, who's been at his side for 40 years now, watching him the whole time... Lars looking over too... just amazing, man. These guys are just absolute legends.

This is one of the best performances from the boys in years. Instant classic. Since day 1: If Hetfield is truly "feeling it," it makes for an extra special performance.

I never get tired of watching this performance and how amazing James is. You can tell he was in a groove and even he was enjoying how smooth he sounds. Salute.

Metallica has it's fair share of awesome guitar solo parts, but that live Version of James' ending solo is just fucking amazing and probably in my top 5 of guitar solos ever from now on.

Was a great surprise that they've played it live. Was so lucky to hear it.

It was my first Metallica-Concert and they played a song that they haven't played in 8 years? AWESOME!

@@fedora997 There was at least Frantic or St. Anger from this album that were played in every concert, and it started like 2 months before I went to see them. They were also making a rotation between The God That Failed, The Thing That Should Not Be and Disposable Heroes but they are not that forgotten or even that rare.

You know a band is Great when their die-hard fans can never agree on a Best Album or Best Song. Everybody has their picks and the greatness is that there are so many to choose from it's tough to nail down a favorite by consensus. As for me - I find myself digging a track for a week or two and then a different one and so on . It's been going on for years. And then Digging an album in the same sort of way. I really love to play their stuff especially James guitar parts. For me that's where the real fun is.
