    Being at this show was one of the most surreal moments of my life - there with my 2 sons and oldest grandson. Me too man, I just cared about Lars using a ride. Though what I found out after was crazier. NO ONE EVER Told me that Lars always plays a ride cymbal every time they play Bleeding Me live. So he literally has one ready to use all the time. He just doesn't want it at his kit. I also wonder what Zildjian Ride he used here at this performance, it sounds very unique.

  • @ben1ben

    @ben1ben

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@agrofindastation yeah Lars doesn't want the ride at his kit. Only for special occasions someone brings it up there. Trapped Under Ice as far as I know has originally no ride anyways. But even for songs where the ride is important like Disposable Heroes he doesn't have one, because there he would rather play a china. I think it depends on the sound of song they are playing, not even Lars could overuse a china for such a song like Fixxxer. I think for thrash songs that he had originally used a ride for, he uses a china instead. Just because Thrash and a china cymbal fit together so well (and of course because he doesn't like Ride cymbals). But really what Lars plays live with Disposable heroes is dogshit. The ride part from the studio version is just so sick and groovy. And he ruins it live.

    @@agrofindastation ah thanks for the info. But yeah I'm really curious onto what Ride he used for the Master of Puppets album and for this live performance of Fixxxer. About the ride from MoP there is only speculations but never an actual answer. its probably between a ping ride or a rock ride, but whenever Lars uses a ride it sounds so high pitched that I don't have a clue. I've searched and looked up so many rides now and nothing sounds close to what he used on Disposable Heroes.

    As soon as the intro started, the guy sitting next to me totally lost it and was beside himself shouting uncontrolably in desbelief and amazement, it was a beautiful thing to witness. One thing I can say for myself is that I would love if the band played other songs from Load/Reload more often, they sound so rich, emotional and powerful live. This was the 11th time seeing them live andonly now had the chance to listen to anything from Load for the first time, which to me is one of the greatest rock albums of all time. The stories in those songs are incredible. The way you can ask 10 different people what a song means and you can get 10 different responses - that's a gift. Load was always more...sensitive? For me. ReLoad was maybe a little more attitude, a little more bite. Both are great qualities. I like that they can write heartwrenching songs like Mama Said, Fixxxer, Bleeding Me, etc. but still break your face with Battery or Spit Out the Bone.

    I've heard from a lot of pro singers that it's not so much the notes he has to hit, but rather keeping breath in your lungs for the long vocal melodies. The lines are unusually long and there's not a lot of time to take big breaths. Plus he's playing guitar to a song he's not used to playing, so he's focusing on multiple things at once. I don't blame him for straining here and there.

    I think there's a very good reason why they haven't played this until now. If you really take the time to read what they're saying here, and to Who, and considering when it was written, you will understand why this is the most special Metallica song of all time, and my favourite. When I saw James sing with his eyes closed it confirmed that this song is one of, if not the, deepest and most painful things they have ever done and I am filled with such joy to know that the questions James was asking here were finally resolved. It makes me believe that we can all be fixed again and fall in love with life again. Seeing Rob being able to be a part of this, and fulfilling his role is truly special. Kirk did a beautiful job on his parts and NAILED it. Lars, for all his business acumen tough exterior, being part of this was incredible as well. Being able to finally see this song played live was a dream come true, and made me feel more connected to this band than I never have before. I may not understand, but I understand. Being a newer Metallica fan (I started listening to their stuff roughly a year ago at the recommendation of a friend.) I was unaware that Metallica had never played Fixxxer live and really wasn't super aware of Fixxxer to begin with. I had listened to Reload a couple of times but tended to just stick to listening to the hits from that album. Seeing this live in person and feeling the energy of the crowd being so excited I had to go back and listen to it again after the concert. Fixxxer is now one of my new favorite songs from the Load/Reload era and is up there on my list of favorite Metallica songs. It was really super cool to be there for such a historic moment.

    Agreed, the vocal melodies seem a bit uncomfortably high in his upper range, and linger on and on up there.. Easy for vocal tension to build up and cut off your high notes, especially during a setlist like this. Bringing it down a couple half steps should do the trick. And that main riff would probably sound pretty wicked in a deeper key.

    I was there for this, incredibly surprised up in the rafters. The crowd was somewhat mild (they were mild most of the night, night 2 was much more lively). James joked after that's why they don't play that song. But I was incredibly happy to see this live, especially after spending the last two years mostly away from people. Thanks Metallica.

    James is doing leads and singing at the same time it’s seriously their best song

    Seeing this song live is a dream come true with nearly 25 years in the making. You can tell Kirk was super into it too!

    Revisiting this song must be a strong feeling for them also, not just for the crowd. Beautiful

    This is one of Metallica's best ever songs, how can you not love that intro - it's epic and the riffs and groove are just so cool.

    Its a hard song to sing. Full power in relatively high chest voice notes. Belting up to G4 every verse

    03:55 Voice change is unbelievable. James Hetfield's voice is like an ID or a signature, no one until now could sing like him. Metallica was my music when I was a kid, and when I became a man. Love you guys

    @ the song is deals with Jame's personal traumas like some other ones on Load and reload. and the way the lyrics are written are quite fucking poetic.
