A great sounding solo with a true narrative that really builds to a musical climax. Not a difficult solo to play by any means, but a very inspired solo. You can tell that Kirk put time into crafting it.

It's actually quite easy once you learn all the notes. Simply commit all the notes to memory and then work on getting it up to speed. Shouldn't take more than a few hours of practice

@StephLeGratteux
4 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I have no idea if Kirk plays it like that. When I first leant this solo many years ago, I didn't play the arpeggios with sweep. But when I re-learnt it with sweep, I realised it was actually easier to get the speed and a tight playing.

what I find difficult about this solo and a lot of solos in general is muting the strings. can anyone share any tips and trick or share some sort of comprehensive guide when it comes to muting strings while soloing? it'd be greatly appreciated.

Palm muting. While you’re picking, put your palm on the strings you aren’t playing. If all else fails, try looking up a video on it

Dumb question, the last part is with sweepecking or alternate picking?
@StephLeGratteux
3 жыл бұрын
I play : up, pull-off, down, down. So there's a sweep from B string to E string. And it's not a dumb question at all as the first way I learnt this part, I used to play : up, pull-off, up, down (so alternate picking between B and E string). I changed the way to play it and now I use a sweep because I think it's much easier to play it fast that way and also the playing is tighter.

Fun fact: if you speed up solo on 50% of speed, you will get solo with Kirk's vibratos
You can definitely hear some Johann Sebastian Bach influence at the end of the solo. Reminiscent of that harmony in Toccata and Fugue.
