    Honestly St. Anger fit the metal scene in the early 2000's. A lot of big metal bands were dropping their tunings and not focusing on guitar solos. (Korn, SoaD, early Slipknot, Disturbed, Deftones, among others.) This fits the time in which it was recorded in, and is honestly pretty good

    It also seems like the longer a band's been around, the more they're popularity decreases. Give a band at least 10 years and you'll start hearing the claims about how they've "sold out" and how good they "used to be": Metallica, Iron Maiden, AC/DC, Slipknot, Judas Priest, etc. I just ignore those people. lol I have no concern for how popular a band is or is not. I like good music regardless of whether or not it's "cool" or "uncool". And I like St. Anger. End of story. :3

  • @themonopolyguy4365

    @themonopolyguy4365

    6 жыл бұрын

    whiteboy7176 yeah but then when they hit the 15-20 year mark they become a classic band or old school band to younger kids and the popularity starts to come back. Selling out is just the nature of the beast. Bands that didn’t couldn’t afford to keep shoes on their feet or became irrelevant. The cycle goes: start out, become popular, sell out to stay afloat then use those earnings to return back to your roots.

    Death Magnetic and Hardwired were great albums. But anyone honestly giving their first impression of St. Anger would attest to its objectively bad sound. Anything can sound good after we listen to it over and over, hence why we come to "like" St. Anger over time - familiarity bias and the Metallica symbol saved it. If some new band had produced St. Anger, it would have been laughed out of the room.

  • @JulesBox

    @JulesBox

    Every band that gets bored of the same shit and tries to do something new or getting out of their comfort zone is almost automatically bashed and accused of sell out. Sometimes people get really picky and stupid.

    I think people often forget that there is an entire genre of music that sounds like this; Stoner rock/metal (in a general sense) and nobody craps on those bands for playing that sound. I think the main reason this album had such a bad reputation was bc it was made by Metallica.

    What they meant is that, they were trying to get back to their roots (meaning metal, instead of the hard rock feel they had in Load/Reload). The sound however, was a new approach as they tried new ways of writing (they did everything in the studio at once instead of writing outside of the studio too) and just a new feel. Though it isn't old Metallica, I still like all of their works and I'm really excited to hear that their new album will be the bridge between Justice and the balck album. Peace!

    Very true, and I do like St. Anger for what it is and I think that lots of people fail to see things like that.

    I just realized that this is kind of Metallica's take on Helmet.

    For a real Metallica-fan , there is not such a thing as crap song or album . I like all their songs and for me they are the best metal band to which I've ever listened. Each band has to go through evolution and so Metallica did. They can't be the way, like they were in Master of Puppets or any other album , because as time flows , each band (including them too) evolves and changes and progresses. If they hadn't changed , none of you would listen to their S&M and all the other albums.

    I'm frantic in your soothing arms I can not sleep in this down filled world. Found safety in this loneliness but I can not stand it anymore .Cross my heart, hope not to die ,swallow evil ,ride the sky. I lose myself, in a crowded room. Some of the better lyrics i've heard on this album. This was off The Unnamed feeling. You dont have to listen to this album you can choose not to. But please dont come here and hate on it just for the sake of hating it thats something someone immature would do.

    yes!!!! loving the comments! loving the like to dislike ratio! loving the raw power and "wall of guitar's sound" as Jaymz would call it. St anger for the fucking win! this album came out when i was like 12 and saved me. it was a way for me to get out my aggression theraputically at night after a day of being bullied and beaten in school. i owe a lot to this band and this album. they did what no therapist could
