I remember having serious anxiety attacks and depression. When it came alive, I stepped back from the world to go on some hours long back road drives. This song was my therapist. The road my session.

Because Metallica never actually changed for the worse, it's a trend, people just say shit because they hear it and the lemming affect takes over, so they repeat shit. What they do is they LIVE a period of time and experience all kinds of changes through their lives, then they go into the studio and tell us about it. Every album being different than the last. Showing through their souls, their lives during certain periods of time, and they dont give a FUCK what you or I think about it, or cutting their hair. I cant believe so many fans sold out because they cut their fucking HAIR. Back when apparently no one worried about anything except hair. Lol. But yeah, what's more metal than not giving a fuck and making the music you want to make. If they stayed the same and never cut their hair people would be bitching because they sound to much the same. Lol besides, there a reason they're the biggest metal band ever.

I have to admit that it wasn't until MUCH later that I could fully appreciate this album for what it was: a full-on release of every bit of anger, rage, fear, insecurity and regret built up over decades. Being a recovering addict myself, having gone through my own personal hell by my own hands, listening back to this album is incredibly powerful and moving.

I'm okay with this album. I'm a huge Metallica fan, and there are some great songs on this album. I think what the people who don't like this album really don't like is that after the Black album, Load, and Reload, the old Metallica, the metal Metallica of Kill "Em All, Lightning, Master, and Justice, was gone. This is a post-peak Metallica trying to hang on by following along with what was trendy in the early 2000s. They would make a come back with Death Magnetic and Hardwired, but they lost themselves for awhile. But that's okay too, because Load, for example, had some really fantastic stuff on it. But it was hard to hear Load or St Anger back in the day. It wasn't what was wanted. It's easier for us old school fans to appreciate that stuff today than it was back then.

In my opinion by trying to sound like nu metal and not themselves. Detuned guitars, less thrashy and groovy riffs, high snares and overwhelming cymbals and no guitar solos. Lyrically very strong, you can tell Hetfields heart was put into it.

St. Anger came at a time when I had just dropped out of college back in 2003 and was totally lost about what I'd do in life and would often have suicidal thoughts... the only solace I found was thru this track which I could totally relate to at the time.. fast forward 20 years.. I'll be 40 in October, have a loving wife, 2 precious daughters, and a stable freelancing agency set up with the help of my best buds who I owe my life to.. Thank you Metallica and especially this track that kept me going thru some of my life's darkest phases...

5:05 - 5:36 .........Great meaning behind this song. It depicts people with phobias stuck in situations where they have to face them. For instance, a claustrophobic person gets in an elevator crammed with people, and the elevator gets stuck. Talk about feeling an "unnamed feeling" right there.............. Then the unnamed feeling takes me away. Been here before... I'm frantic in your soothing arms. I cannot sleep in this down-filled world. Found safety in this loneliness, but I cannot stand it anymore. Cross my heart, hope not to die. Swallow evil, ride the sky. Lose myself in a crowded room. You fool, you fool, it will be here soon. It comes alive. It comes alive. It comes alive, and I die a little more. It comes alive. It comes a-live. It comes alive each moment here I die a little more. Oooh, I die, I die, I die a little more. Then the unnamed feeling comes alive. Then the unnamed feeling treats me this way. And I wait for this train. My toes are over the line. Then the unnamed feeling takes me away. It takes me. Then the unnamed feeling, it comes alive. Yeah-yeah! Then the unnamed feeling takes me away. (Yeah) It takes me away! ...Get the fuck out of here. I just wanna to get the fuck away from me. I rage, I glaze, I hurt, I hate. I hate it all. Why? Why? Why me? I cannot sleep with a head like this. I wanna cry. I wanna to scream. I rage, I glaze, I hurt, I hate. I want to hate it all away!!! ...Then the unnamed feeling, (yeah) it comes alive. Yeah-yeah! Then the unnamed feeling takes me away. Then I wait for this train. Toes are o'er the line. Yea-ee-yeah. Then the unnamed feeling takes me away. Yeah, It takes me away. It comes alive. Then the unnamed feeling takes me away." \m/

4:27 heaviest shit ever! Gave me chills when I first heard this. So much anger at that time just not used as well as it could have been. Lol still a great album compared to the "artists" out there today

This DVD was the reason I fell in love with St. Anger. It felt/looked so fun to play (and it is). The actual CD/release is not that fun to listen to.

Good lord the one of everything is just so nasty. When James starts I was like woah here we go. Then everything kicked in and I forgot how crushing this performance was from them. One of their best concerts and it was specifically for themselves. Very therapeutic
