The second I heard that bass line I went out and learned Bass so I could play it. It uses many of the same notes as Anesthesia (different order of course). Could have this been an homage by Jason to Cliff?

@DURASTROKINS Jason was better live..ive seen Cliff 5 times and Jason once, on And Justice for All. He destroyed Cliffs parts and was all over the place. He always got the crowd into it...which Lars and James hated.

When I was 10, and i stole this tape from K-Mart.. I became so attached to this song.. Everyone wanted to hear sandman and the rest.. but this one stuck with me to this day.. it's pure gold.. prefect in every way..

In my humble opinion this is the most well written Metallica song. Everyone plays to suit the song so well its crazy. It all fits together amazingly and you can tell kirk, James and Jason really worked together to make each other's parts even better.

@@clinical_caliber these lyrics are more subtle and based in metaphors. The lyrics to welcome home are sort of immature. Welcome home is so easy to play I'm sure James wrote it in his sleep. This song every note is so well thought out. Once again my opinion only

Jason Newsted was a criminally underrated and underutilized bassist and vocalist.I can only imagine how much more he could have contributed to Metallica if he would have been unleashed instead of stifling him. I miss Jason 🤘

I agree, and I noticed the title says Official Music Video, but c'mon now anyone who is a true Metallica fan knows damn well Metallica never made a vid for My Friend of Misery. So why is it labeled so? I know why,, just to get a click on it.

There was plenty of room in Metallica all along to give Jason room to be creative. You can pick out songs on every album that werent as strong with just James and Lars' name on them. This song is an instant classic. Everything that Jason had credit on in Metallica was solid AF

It won’t, it was Jason’s. Unless they have him guest contribute or something. It was meant to be an instrumental in the first place. IMO, Rob is a great bassist, but he’s not “Metallica”, they lost part of their identity when Jason left and was/were never the same.

Put this on rotation in 2021 at the moment.

Personally I feel that this song is the most underrated on this album. James sings with a lot of pain, and who definitely gets the credit for this song is Jason, his bass sounds brutal. We listen to Lars and Kirk at their usual high level, If this song had been put in the Load or Reload is what would have raised the sales of the album.
