Ya. Metallica had money when this song was written. People talk about these guys selling out and doing it for money? But these guys were broke and made no money until the middle of the Justice tour. So those first albums with Cliff? These guys had no money. And the song writing was so agressive. And when they had money? The song writing changed. Because they were living comfortably. Not so gritty.

Metallica doesn’t need a deep meaning. Sometimes they just show up and say “I have come to kick ass and chew gum. And I’m all out of gum”

Fun fact: This was the song that got me into metal, Reload was the first Album I ever bought.

Great song, awesome album. Will always defend the Load & Reload albums, even though I shouldn't have to. Just because they were so different doesn't mean they sucked, but metal elitists will try to convince you that they do. Fuck that. The diversity of both of those albums offers songs that are either just as fast, just as heavy, just as groovy, and just as epic as any other Metallica album to date. Don't be afraid to dive deeper into these albums, you'll find some gems in there! Great video & keep up the awesome content, mates! Much love to you both, longtime subscriber from Australia!

Agree to disagree. Load and Reload don't suck because they're different. I just think they suck, and they happen to be different. I'll say this though: if Metallica just recorded Ain't my Bitch and King Nothing, and released it as a short EP with one of the good Garage Inc. covers like Die, Die my Darling, It'd be a really good hard rock EP. The only problem is they decided to record a bunch of other albums and release two albums worth of pretty bad rock music.

Most of the songs in Load and Reload are "meh" at best and bad at worst, and that has nothing to do with them not being "the same" as the songs in their other albums -- the also-much-maligned Black Album is probably my favourite of theirs and has some of my favourite Metallica songs (even if I think their _best_ songs are in other albums), and it's already a big departure from their more traditional thrash metal earlier work. Also, I'm a big fan of hard rock, and I would have been thrilled if they had released a *good* hard rock album, but as you said, that wasn't the case here. Those 2 albums are just not good, regardless of a genre shift. That being said, Fuel isn't a bad song. It _is_ a million times better live, usually (much like Maiden's Fear of the Dark). Unforgiven II is also a pretty good song, all things considered. However, my main problem with both of those songs (and pretty much the rest of those 2 albums), though, is that they're so... bland and washed-out, musically speaking. There's very little personality imbued in them. Say what you will about St. Anger (I personally think it's their worst album, with the exception of the abomination they recorded with Lou Reed called "Lulu"), but at least their personality shines through in there. Listening to Load and Reload is like eating two unsalted crackers as the middle dish in an otherwise pretty stellar 5-course meal. They're unremarkable (forgettable, really) and add nothing to Metallica's body of work. They're the musical equivalent of filler episodes in a TV series.

Metallica does Country better than most Country groups. Probably because they also include a Hard Rock element to it. Good or bad, that's how we got bands like Nickleback and 3 Doors Down. Metallica just does it better than those bands will ever do it.

This song is just fun. Hetfield's love song to his cars. Not every song has to reveal the secret to life, sometimes just a hard banging driving song is what ya need. Edit - and yes Vin, this is an awesome running song when you are making that final sprint!

I love these types of song where the music makes you feel it.... The guitars, the pace, the drums, it all makes you feel like you are just going high speed down the road and Too Hell with everything else.

I actually like both Load and ReLoad. I like the obscure and overlooked songs like "Ain't My Bitch".."King Nothing".. "Bleeding Me".. "Fixxxer".. "Low Man's Lyric".."Prince Charming" but there are some great songs on those albums.If any other band would have put out that music it would have been more readily received.

Really didn't like this at first but it grew on me. A live favourite now. Both Load and Reload has som really great songs on them.

Love the load and reload albums, such a shame cure gets ignored its a great groovy track, one of my favourite from load.

First metal song I ever heard, and was hooked ever since My dad got me hot wheels turbo racing for ps1 for my birthday when I was 5, and it was the theme song for it, and the rest is history

It didn't get blocked and I love it!!!! This is number one on my driving games soundtrack in spotify. Listen to it all the time when I hit the track in F1 2020...or which ever it happens to be that year.

It was the mid 90's, it was just getting ready for school and having breakfast, watching music videos back when they played them Suddenly there was this spinning wheel, I just assumed it was another car/tire commercial James Hetfield then started screaming into a mic about burning fuel, then cut to showing awesome customs I would definitely want in my driveway It was new It was loud It melted my face It was a thousand times more epic than anything my then dad ever played, and all of his was the 70's Era I was just 8, and I was hooked ever since I went to school with visions of chrome and fire, and octane powered v12s and the faint oder of burning rubber wafting from somewhere

Old school american muscle cars. Nice! Another cool drag racing video and great song is Fastway's "All Fired Up".

I always took this song to have a double meaning between the obvious car metaphor and the less obvious performance metaphor. "One hundred plus through black and white War horse, warhead Fuck 'em man, white-knuckle tight Through black and white" I always thought this to mean something like 100 beats per minute plus in their older songs, through their crowd which is diverse, both black and white. Metallica being this warhorse, this unstoppable force saying fuck everything else, this is what's important. White knuckle tight, holding their guitars. "On I burn Fuel is pumping engines Burning hard, loose and clean And on I burn Churning my direction Quench my thirst with gasoline" On I burn, continuing to pump out albums, the crowd is the fuel pumping the engines of the machine that is Metallica. They play hard loose and clean live. And they keep going after 35+ years because they love doing it. "Turn on beyond the phone Swallow future, spit out home " Metallica always said that they hate it when people are using their phones at concerts and not experiencing the show. Swallow future means for you to just accept that you're going to have a good time at a Metallica concert, leaving your home for the night. "Take the corner, join the crash Headlights, head on, headlines Another junkie lives too fast" This to me seems like an observation of the rock and roll lifestyle. Take the corner join the crash, meaning you're encouraging more people to get into the music. Head on, headlines, another junkie lives too fast. Historically a ton of metal and rock artists have either died from going too hard on drugs or just going too hard on life in general and not ever dealing with their problems. But maybe it's just me, that's what I got out of the song.

Now you know why this is my favorite Metallica song.

I really liked the Load and Reload albums. The heavy blues feel mixed with metal. Been a Metallica fan since 83 but a band has to evolve. St Anger and Lulu were big mistakes but last two albums have been really good

I believe guys, that all this time you react in rock and metal songs, your opinion change and now you respect this kind of music. Of course some bands are an occult background but the most bands in their lyrics describe social problems, global wars, etc

junky could have multiple meanings for example: addicted to stimulus... weather it be drugs, adrenaline, caffeine, so on, and so on... however... it could also refer to someone who built their own car, truck, airplane ( and yes... there is such a thing as an airplane race ) , or motorcycle to race and went to the junk yard to get parts. or... i suppose it could also be referring to the actual vehicle that was "souped up " to operate faster than originally designed by the manufacture. i.e. take an old cheep junk vehicle and tune it up to race with, or you could say... The cars were originally production models (hence, "stock"), but are now highly modified. the verse about headlights... headlines... another junky lives to fast... the person is not necessarily dead.... they could have won the race, and it was put in a newspaper. just my 2 cents worth.
