Filippo Argenti, was Dante Alighieri's neighbour IRL. He was extremely rich, extremely strong, and a known bully that always tried to provoke fights, so much that, IE, the citizens complained to the Priors about his habit of riding on horseback through the city with his legs spreaded, so that passersby had to bend to not be kicked in the face. Dante puts him in hell, among the wrathful, but this is reversed in this song, that tells that bullies always prevail IRL.

Argenti says that even if Dante has put him in the 'inferno' (hell), in the reality the evil wins. It's a pessimistic view of mankind, but the song is wonderful and powerful. And it has got a great cultural level. Dante's commedia is a masterpiece of Italian literature and Caparezza use it to talk to modern people. Top!!!!

if you want to truely understand this song you shuold read about dante's divina commedia, more specifically inferno. it's a poem written by dante Alighieri( one of the cornerstone of italian language and litterature ,just like Shakespeare)between 1308 and 1320 and it tells about Dante's trip in the afterlife. It's full of allegorys and symbols. In this song, that is a tribute to Dante, Caparezza deepens the character of Filippo Argenti, Dante's neighbour. He's upset with him because Filippo once slapped Dante, Filippo's brother had taken Dante's possessions after Dante's exile from Florence and Filippo's family had opposed Dante's return from exile. So Filippo Argenti appears in the fifth circle of Hell in the Inferno, the first part of Dante's Divine Comedy. He is among the wrathful in the river Styx and is torn into pieces by the other wrathfuls in the river.

Fun fact. Every encounter Dane makes in Hell is with already deceased people from the past (history or directly known to him), but he hated Argenti so much that Argenti himself might be the only exception, to be put in hell even if (most likely) still alive at the time Dante wrote Hell.

Hey i loved your video i just have one more thing to add. In that song he’s talking about one chant (chant 8) of the Divine Comedy written by Dante Alighieri. There we find this Filippo argenti who tries to get onto the boat Dante’s on but his master Virgilio pushes him back down. So Caparezza imagined this sort of response from Filippo Argenti for being put in the seventh circle of hell and for the treatment he’s been given by Virgilio. But as i said before, loved the video and also i’m happy you enjoyed the song because it’s my personal favourite.❤️

This song is a disstrack against Dante Alighieri. Caparezza is using the character of Filippo Argenti to tell that even the gran master of italian litterature and the invenctor of the modern idea of christian's afterlife is nothing but a mere human like everyone else with his own sins. 《 You're not divine, you individual if I locate you, I'll dislocate you. ... Attacking me won’t redeem you, no It was you issuing directives, to annihilate every Ghibelline Circle 7, first ring. 》

Lots of people have already explained who Argenti was, but what you need to understand is that, even if Capa here is vocing Argenti, he is the Dante of the story: Capa has been threatened by many powerful people for his lyrics, this is a way to say to them that even if they are powerful now, that power will die with them. But art lives forever. Argenti will be drowning in mud till the end of time in Dante's Commedia. That's why Capa smiles at the end of the video ;)

  • @echoelin153

Hi Ang! :) This song is written by the perspective of Filippo Argenti, Dante Alighieri's neighbour. Dante is, as you mentioned, the one who wrote the "Divina Commedia", the most renown piece of work of all italian literature. The Divina Commedia is divided into 3 arcs: Hell, Purgatory and Paradise. Filippo argenti, having been a brute and a bully back when he was alive, is put by Dante in Hell, where demons torn his flesh apart as a punishment. In this song, Caparezza gives Filippo Argenti the chance to diss Dante back and call out his conceit and naivety. It's a song with a dark undertone, hinting at the fact that the violents and the bullies are the ones who will ultimately prevail because there will always be someone who will emulate them. As always, thaks for giving us your opinion about our beloved Capa, stay awesome Ang! :)

Since people in the comments have already done a great job in explaining the lyrics and the references, I wanted just to add a little fun fact: the narrating voice that you hear at the beginning and at the end of the song belongs to Pierpaolo Capovilla, singer and frontman of "Il Teatro degli orrori". It's a great band and you know them for their song "A sangue freddo" (in cold blood) to wich you did a great reaction some time ago. Thank you for the great content, I hope that you are enjoying your exploration of italian music. Have a nice weekend and greetings from Italy.

Congratulations my friend!! ...Now here you have your best new year gift!!....Today it is very difficult to find reactors like you who have never reacted to the best singer in the world, Dimash Kudaibergen, who has 7 octaves and 3 semitones vocal range (An alien) ... Maybe someone made you a request to react to Dimash, but you have not had time .... I am going to dare to recommend that you meet Dimash, because when you do it for the first time, your life as reactor will change forever ....For example, the number of views that you have today, it will increase by 300% in a matter of a few hours and you will get a lot of new subscribers.....But when you react to Dimash, don't do it with his most recent songs ... I recommend that you go to the year 2017 and react to the song that made him a global idol ... I mean the performance he did Dimash from the famous French song called "SOS D'un Terrien en Détresse", when he participated in the famous Chinese reality show The Singer in that year 2017 ... With that performance Dimash earned the reputation of being the best singer on the planet, so I recommend you start with that one .... You can also start with the other famous live version of that song that Dimash did the following year 2018 when he was invited to the famous Slavic Bazzar festival in Belarus .... Both performances are from another planet....Your life will never be the same again, after reacting for the first time to Dimash...And your first reaction to Dimash will be something very special, so I recommend that you do the best job of your life as a reactor, because that first video will be seen by thousands of people around the world, maybe millions...I hope to see you first reaction soon and if you don't mind, I'd like you to mention me as the person who recommended reacting to Dimash, but if you don't want to, that's fine...

Hi Ang! nice video, I really like to see how every time you are amazed by the Capa-sound! Capa's texts are beautiful and also complex and often lead me to have to do some research on the web to understand the quotes: Argenti Vive is one of these texts. The song is about this man who really existed who was hated by Dante. In the chronicles of the time it is told of how once Filippo Argenti slapped Dante and that he had appropriated Dante's assets that ended up under confiscation. On the other side, Dante made statements to the authorities in order to aggravate the judicial situation of Philip, who wasn't a good guy in the city and was hated by many other people. Argenti died before the Divine Comedy was written so Dante, by writing the Hell chapters, took a satisfaction and put Argenti in hell among the brutes and evildoers and writing about how happy and satisfied he was to see him there. In short, an unusual quarrel between neighbors that from the thirteenth century has come down to us in a metal key, lol. Caparezza sings as if it were Argenti dissing Dante by telling him what you read in the text, with all the strength and anger worthy of a damned pissed off

Angelo congratulations on a fantastic job. This song obviously has multiple reading levels but one is definitely the problem the relationship between art and violence, between revenge and understanding the other person. I remain convinced that the point of this song is the violence that remains too carved into people's souls. "The world does not belong to poets, the world belongs to us, the bullies", at a certain point Caparezza says that even Dante is vindictive "Your name is Dante Alighieri, but you resemble Filippo Argenti in your behavior". Even the final moment makes it clear that violence is often the way people think it is most useful to behave "Even the trees scramble for a little sunshine. The rest is just useless pretty words I'm sure that in the future young minds Will be like Argenti and art will bear my name."

Without getting to deep in the context (even if it's very important) let's say that Argenti rapresents the violent and bully nature of humans, while Dante ( the poet ) rapresents the reason and intellectualism (even if Caparezza as Argenti takes shots at Dante as well, showing that, after all, he is somewhat a bully and a coward too). So with resignation, in one of the most pessimistic and cynical takes Caparezza ever had, he thinks that the violent nature will prevail in humans. Quite sad and apocalyptic song in my opinion.

For his opera magna "La divina commedia" which is a poem about his travel trought hrll purgatory and Paradise to reach his love Beatrice...in his Journey meet a lot of historical and mithological charachters like Ulises, Caronte, vergil (Virgilio), some of the worst popes of history, and mutch mutch many including his real life neighbour Filippo argenti... Because la divina commedia is not only a fantasy poem but Also a political poem from the time of Dante. In fact there are Also charachters not dead yet in his time.

dude do you want a chat/video call with a mothertongue speaker about italian pronounciation? 😂 I appreciate your content but since it's been a while of you making content about italian stuff, at this point you could learn a thing or two about the language to have a better pronunciation in future content. I'd happily have a chat with you about that, and maybe even explain some Caparezza lyrics not just as a translation but to let you understand references and nuance that would otherwise get lost. So yeah, if you want, let me know 😂
