Stray Kids STRAY KIDS!!

They've actually done two more songs on First Take. Mixtape:OH and Scars. Both are absolutely amazing and definitely worth checking out.

You commented on Han having a mix of rock to his voice which is really accurate, his father was in a rock band in his youth and Han was heavily influence by the genre. He's considered an ace because he can basically fill any position, being a solid dancer, singer, rapper, lyricist and producer. Something very interesting to note is that, despite being primarily a rapper (primarily but definitely not only), he is often given some of the most challenging parts of the songs, mostly difficult high notes. I highly recommend checking out 'Leemujin Service EP.32 HAN' to see some of his amazing versitility in a live performance that's really similar to First Take. He does four songs, each followed by a quick interview, but I think his cover of Blue Whale (13:01) would be really fun for you because the vibe is very rock ballad, and then he just pulls a ONE OK ROCK verse cover out of his pocket when asked about his favourite rock band (17:28). I think it's worth doing the whole video since it shows his abilities really well if you're down for a longer video, but those are a must watch if you like the rock influence in Han's voice. Oh you got to react to Victory Song the MAMA 2020 performance!!!!! They were treated really poorly by the organisers and gave Bang Chan a ridiculously short period of time to put together a performance. They were only allowed to perform a B side to advertise a survival show they were going to compete in also…. so Bang Chan worked his magic and, well, you have to check it out. One of the best intros to a live Stray Kids performance. Also the MV for Victory Song is one of my favourites and it has one of the hardest drops! Might be best to see the MV first then check out the live performance just to understand how fired up SKZ were for the MAMA situation. Stray Kids are incredible and one of a kind. PS. As a metal head myself who didn’t expect to like K-Music… I have loved discovering these guys and stoked that you are liking them too.

Stray Kids are their own genre. Seriously. I have incredibly eclectic musical tastes and they don't fit into any one genre. So we'll just make them their own genre!

They did two others first take : Scars (japanese version) and Mixtape:Oh. Scars is one of my favorite skz songs so I definetly recommend it ! Fun fact they were the first korean artist to appear on first take and they were the first to sing in korean with Mixtape:Oh. For other performances I want to recommend one without dance but with incredible vocals : Neverending story or Story that never ends (it's the same song). From what I know they only did one performance so you should find it easily. For another recommendation they did an incredible performance of Levanter with an added dance break with a surprise (I will not say what it is). You should maybe check the original version before but I'll go right no search for the link because this performance was impressive.

So glad you are checking out Stray Kids First Take performances! This song was written by Han for the ending of the anime Tower of God. They also wrote the intro song Top as well. I also think Han's vocals go really well with the pop punk genre, so it was cool to have you mention his grungy rock quality in his rap.

Not in front of crowd, but I absolutely love their Kingdom performance of their version of I’ll Be Your Man. Han’s and Seungmin’s vocals are phenomenal, Changbin is rapping part done by two people in the original track on his own, Felix’s demonic deep voice rapping while being dragged on the floor, Chan’s harmonies, the whole visual concept of the storyline, the back up dancers….just everything about that performance is perfect.

Fun info Han’s dad played in a rock band & he was very much influenced by it & loves rock music Stray Kids were the first Korean idols to perform on the show. Next was TXT. Chan loves playing around with sound. One time someone commented to stop using auto tune in which Chan said no, l like it & will continue to use it. Lol. I think that you would love the English version of this. I love the Korean version but the lyrics in the English version hit me so hard that I cried. I was like, I feel that way. Feeling like everyone is always ahead of me & I can’t keep up. I believe that is why I love Stray Kids music. Things I have learned 1. District 9: Who are you to tell me who I am when I don’t even know myself 2. My Pace: yeah I get jealous & think if I was like another person I would be happy. Chan says stop it. Everyone has their own rhythm & we will get their in our time at our own pace. 3. Blueprint: I like the view right now. It’s ok to stop & breath while chasing after something 4. Han’s solo - Alien: feeling like you don’t fit into this world 5. Changbin’s solo - Streetlight: being a source of security & comfort for others but left alone. Who can you depend on when everyone depends on you. Sorry for the long ramble. Enjoying your channel so much. Thank you. ❤

Love that you posted this. Is also recommend Secret Secret. Han's ability to put into words the overwhelming anxiety we can feel is just 🤌🏻.

This song is actually from an anime which I love watching I also love the lads voices and harmonies and raps. And my biases felix and hyunjin and ult wrecker Jisung slayed their parts

I love the lyrics of the song. Im sure you already know that this group Is 99,8% self produced, right? Han (the one that has rock sound) wrote this song when he was on his hiatus because of his anxiety. Def check out the rest of SKZ on The first take💜🙏

Silent Cry’s live performances and MV are really good for more raw vocals. The MV is reeling simple in setting, with a set up kind of like this because it’s a really raw topic based on real emotion and experiences. It really does make me cry!

4:40 that’s Han - he’s the ace of the group - tho they don’t have official positions but he debuted as a main rapper - and I think he can easily called a lead vocalist

I’m still getting to know these guys. I was surprised to see them introducing themselves in Japanese (I know they’re Korean), and also singing the Japanese version (duh…it said it right on the screen)! 🤣 I love their voices and they did great!👍🏼👏🏼 I didn’t realize that ‘The First Take’ was a Japanese show. I now have 4 members down, and trying to learn the other 4 (matching their names with their faces😂😂).

Slump has originally that effect so that's why it was included, I hope you react to their Scars performance on the first take because it's so so so good as well

This was such an interesting reaction! I really enjoyed watching! If your looking for more raw vocals 2 members (Han and Changbin) did performances on Korean Masked singer and 2 (Han and Seungmin) did performing interviews with Lee Mujin (a host and singer), all about on the spot live performances. One of the others did a classical song audition for a show (IN) in a style called Korean trot!

if you want more raw vocals from them, i would suggest checking out the first take for their song mixtape oh. it definitely has the least amount of effects of their vocals and they sound amazing! their other first take, scars, is also really well done (though there are some vocal effects in that one i believe). thanks for reacting

interesting you mention how han's voice seems to give of a 'rock' sound because in his lee mujin service interview, the host says exactly the same thing :0 (han explains maybe it's because his father used to be in a band wayyyy back then. He's also a fan of multiple rock bands)

Yeah this is the one that isn't completely raw. But there was a reason for it. Since they did it for Tower Of God and it had the vocal effects on it, they wanted the same effect to be placed on it here. I actually heard them do it without the effect before, and personally I like it even more! However, I do understand why they wanted them to keep it. I guess The First Take people really loved their OST so much it's what caused them to allow a Korean act on their show in the fiest place. It helps that they speak Japanese VERY well. The other two performances are definitely their raw vocals, and they are super awesome. Definitely chexk them out. "Scars" is my favorite. This group has teamwork nailed like non other. They were of course the first Korean group to be brought in to do a song in Korean, and then they were the first to be asked back AGAIN. Pretty awesome. Also, yes, Han does have a rock quality to his voice. Fun fact, his father used to be the lead singer in a rock band. Lol Go figure!

There’s a few Korean radio shows that are similar to the set up of first take one of my favorites is called kiss the radio and idol radio stray kids have done a few songs on those I think my favorite is maniac because we actually get to hear them do some of the backing vocals which we don’t really get to hear in most performances or their performance of thunderous solely because bang chan totally forgot his lyrics and it’s really funny watching how fast the other members whip their heads to look at him like “sir did you just forget the lyrics to a song you wrote” lol Also the fact you point out the mix of rap and rock in Han’s vocals is so on point especially because Han’s dad was part of a rock band also because I know you really like One OK Rock he did like a very short a cappella cover of We Are on his episode of Lee Mujin Service and to this day I am still mad he hasn’t done a full cover of it.

They have two more songs done on First Take. They are "Oh' and "Scars". I would recommend both. Edited to add... Literally close your eyes and pick any Stray Kids song. They all hit.

Not sure if you've already done a reaction to any of the live performances of Xdinary Heroes (also under JYP like Straykids) but they're cool, too. Btw, this is one of my fave SKZ songs.

Have you notice their Japanese songs have a little more rock vibe compared to their Korean ones. Maybe because rock is more out there in Japan compared to Korea, definitely BangChan Han ,Leeknow and Seungmin could go for a rock band for sure. As Han plays guitar, Chan piano/keyboard, so fingers crossed maybe one day...

The gold standard for Skz live performance are from Kingdom: Legendary War. The problem is that this was a show broadcast by MNET and they are notorious for blocking Kingdom reactions...it was in the midst of lockdowns, they performed to a very limited audience of judges, but it was live, with incredible stages and camera work. Go'd Ddu du ddu du Blackpink mashup is fire. There are many many fancams of their recent live performances from the Maniac tour in the US, with variable quality, the shows look awesome, they had different versions for Day One, or Two in each city and you could see that they adapted a bit for each city they performed in (Chan sang a bit from Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit for one of the Seattle performances, for instance). They used a live band for that tour. There are a lot of MAMA performances, they often remix the music to fit a theme for those. There is a performance of Maniac without an audience for broadcast on the Steven Colbert show. I also highly recommend looking at some of their dance practices--it's the final full version, basically a performance, just not in costume; they are dancing to the pre-recorded track while they focus on the dance, but it is really cool to see the full choreography and the musicality they bring to it--every beat they hit spot on. The Domino dance practice is legendary, I'd also recommend the Thunderous, God's Menu and Back Door practices. If you click on a dance practice that has any kind of "Version", it is probably a funny one, they do zombie versions, Halloween costume versions. The Love Stay versions have them throwing as many hearts of as many kinds as possible into the choreo. Those versions are hilarious, (I adore the Maniac zombie version) but not necessarily what you want to really see the choreo. Their relay dances are also hilarious and really well done, the ones to God's Menu, Back Door and Thunderous are very fun, especially if you keep watching at the end for the cut takes. It's a whole different choreography problem.

I'm so glad you reacted to this one, every time they've done first take its been amazing but my personal favorite is Scars bc it's another slow song and they don't have any effects on their voices unlike this one (I think the only reason they used the effect is bc the same one is used in the studio version and they didn't want it to be too different).

If you haven't done their other live takes (not First Takes), try their live M/V versions of Secret Secret and Sorry I love You. They have a great "live" take of them singing Another Day on KPop Idol Radio. Try searching for that one. It shows how live takes don't always go as planned. When the host has to stop and tell you to start over because you're acting a fool and laughing, there are bound to be fun times! P.S. catch Han on Lee Mujin Service. He sings and explains how his father was in a rock band and that influenced him heavily. Seungmin also did an episode. Loved both of them!

If you like the First Take series, you might also really like Dingo's Killing Voice series- it's very very similar. Seventeen, NCT 127 and Mamamoo have all been on it and it's been amazing. Instead of doing one song at a time, however, Killing Voice goes through the bands' discographies in a sort of medley and it's super cool to watch while also hearing them show off some amazing rapping and singing!

They do have autotune on the mics, but it's not to make them sound better. It's to make the song behind their vocals and rap match the lyrics better. (just my opinion)
