    Important to note... Must have at least 26 gauge panels... Most roofers will install 29 gage panels the thinnest on the market...

    It might be nice to include a link to the hardware being used.

    Can you walk on the panels, I just had panels installed using this exact same system and they were walking all over the panels.

    We seem to be screwing the rails to the tin itself, not the battens underneath. A better system removes existing roof screws and uses longer screws in the same holes to secure the rails to the tin and ALSO the battens beneath the tin roof. This is much more secure when the high winds inevitably strike the panels.

    The racking is rated for snow and wind loads. We've never had a problem with that. Great structural engineers signed off on this method.

    The whole point of this bracket is to not do those things.

    Doesn't it matter the gauge of the metal? These can't be used on ag panels (whatever you call the thinner gauge metal you can get from Home Depot/Lowe.

    would it not heat up the panels? as far i know. you will need to give some space at the back of the panel so that it can cool with the air flow. more heat = less efficiency

    More clearance is better for efficiency, yes. It's up to the homeowner. Efficiency vs aesthetics is a question we are faced with often. Sometimes people don't want panels on the front of their house even though it's south facing.

    I don't like the idea of drilling the roof. Do you add a silicone on the holes?

    The Protea Bracket has a factory applied EPDM Gasket. This along with an EPDM Gasket on the screw keeps out water and is protected from UV due to the design of the bracket. These brackets are tested to ASTM E2140, same water intrusion standards as for standing seam metal roofs.

    I don't blame you for questioning that. We still haven't had a leak. They're solid.

    What do you typically space these brackets at? 2 foot or 4 foot centers?

  • @artsmith103

    The high points are on 9" centers. I counted every 5th one has a bracket. So 45" centers. I bet the rail requirement is 48" or less because roof rafters are typically on 24" centers.

    What about the 1/2" bolt that holds the L foot to the Protea bracket?

  • @1Solar

    @1Solar

    Try using a 13mm socket. It's not the same. The 1/2" is tough to get the socket off after you tighten it.

    Until you keep tripping over your lanyard. Not necessary on a low slope roof.
