Hi Simon, sorry to disappoint but I don't think its a brooch. Its a Georgian buckle possibly from a hat. The HC in the Shield is the clue. Possibly Henry Chawner London? Thanks

The brooch is not roman, hallmarks were only used from about the 1300s ​@simonread7426

@crazycressy7986 ..... thanks crazycressy ..... yes i only guessed at roman as soon as i saw it ..... ive been told that the collar for the pin gives it away as 1300-1500's ...... happy new year .... 🤠👍

yup collar for the pin gives it away as 13th -14th C brooch, later counterstamp on it. still treausre and obe to get checked, congrats mate!

Thanks Debbie ...... yes, at first i thought they were Hallmarks, but it isn't, its a makers mark which apparently they used to do before Hallmarks..... i have found crotel bells that have had makers marks also which are very similar ..... 🤠👍
