What an absolutely amazing day you guys have had. The excitement of finding all those Romans! Especially down in this area where you just wouldn't expect finds like that. Really well done. Can i ask what the ratio of trash is compared to these finds on such a day? In comparison i have only one permission in Dunsford of about 30 acres of hilly pasture, i have spent a few days on it this year, targets are everywhere but after about sixty dug the other day , all i find is rusty iron .i use a q30 in field mode. Really looking forward to seeing the next video and hope you find more of the hoard 👍

Great question! This field was abit of a rarity because it hadnt been ploughed since the early 20th century and even then must have been done with horse rather than machinery. Very little trash to be found at all in there, we either found a shotty shell or a Roman coin so could easily have given up after the first shell so always worth persisting on with any field but obviously a field with good provenance is also a good start. Antoninianus issues had a max of 15% silver. By late 3rd century 3% to zero. Hope you find the pile. Cheers

Definitely cannot beat romans that’s for sure. Such intricate pieces of history with glorious designs. I was using Forager of course, it killed this field. Merry Christmas my friend 🎄👍

How are you cleaning the none silver roman coins ?

None of the coins have been cleaned as such. I just soak them in deionised water for a few days and that’s it. I learned the hard way not to clean copper alloy coins. Merry Christmas 🎄👍

Its not a scattered hoard. Its a settlement and probably inhabited for a few years maybe. But not a hoard. Detected places like that before. Look for the nearest Roman towns and roads.

Heard very good things about the Legend and to be honest a fisher price detector would have found most of these coins. You just need to be in the right place at the right time. Merry Christmas my friend 🎄👍

Never soak roman coins ,just brush with a tooth brush

Hey Matt , thanks for the comment mate. Deffo don’t brush ancient coins especially debased issues. If you soak them for a few days all that dirt will just fall off naturally 👍👍

@OMA_MetalDetecting been deteting 20 years, and know about bronze coins. So how come the coins looked better before you cleaned them?

Great day's digging, but i dont know why you say they are 2500 years old when they are 1700-1800 years old? Did you get a little over excited?

I guess at the time of recording it we weren’t sure about how old the coins were because we really don’t find many of them. Well spotted though and happy new year to you 🎄👍

You found a few Roman coins in different parts of a field. Nice discoveries but what you found is certainly not a hoard. A hoard is a large number of coins all together, in some form of container and probably buried with a view to being recovered at a later date. If you had found a hoard it would have had to be reported and surrendered to the appropriate authorities. You seem to have a lot to learn about terminology.

We found a scattered hoard John, it has been confirmed by the FLO. To constitute as a hoard it does not have to be in a pot buddy. 3 coins over 300 years old in the same field count as a hoard. We have since been back and found a whole lot more too so keep an eye out for that video 👍👍

@@OMA_MetalDetectingI think you will find that your terminology is still wrong. A find of two or more coins over 300 years old in a location constitutes a "treasure" under the Treasure Act of 1996, not a "hoard".

what's with 500 adverts?? I love metal detecting and was truly interested in your content but im no longer willing to put up with your adverts.. they don't make you anything and all your doing is loosing views
