    Awesome tips! The trust building is really where I think the permissions come from. If you can build a "friendship" with the homeowner quickly, it really can help out! Even if you get a no, don't forget to be friendly, you just never know when they'll talk to their neighbors about you next!

    There are some very valuable tips in this video. Thank you for the walk through the maps online. I am your 35th LIKE on this video. 😁👍🏻 I have asked a few officials about permission for any public space in their county. Not everyone was receptive, they are ALWAYS worried about liability issues of all things. Clearly, people who do not understand the hobby. I hope to change some of their minds. I really need a logo for my channel. Yours looks great on your hat and I understand how that could make a difference. Problem is for me that I have yet to see a logo for my channel that grabs me as if to say, “That’s it!”. Sigh.....maybe this year one will be revealed to me. 😁

    Wow, this was great! It's true what you say about houses that don't look as old as they are. One of our relatives has a home that was built in 1910; but it's been updated a lot and doesn't look like it's 110 years old at all. It would be really interesting to have some detecting done there.

    I have found dozens of “ historic homes” near where I live in Ohio. I just watched a video where the guy said if it’s a “historic” home you give everything to the homeowner. Your thoughts on this? And what about sending a letter to the homeowner ahead of a visit ?

  • @TheHistoryDigger1

    @TheHistoryDigger1

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yes! See my later video “How to Use Social Media to Secure Permissions”. In that I also talk about a letter/mailer I’ve used and had great success with. On permissions I also offer to share my findings w the property owner. Most let me keep it all or pick a few items. Just how I roll, others feel differently. I also offer to make a free video of the hunt where I tell a bit about the property.

    That’s completely up to you as how you position this. I normally say I’m happy to split the the finds with them or they’re welcome to keep anything of high value. Others like to keep it all. My feeling is that it’s their property. It’s up to them. When I do this I also find that it often results in referrals to other permissions.

    It depends on the location. State parks are almost always no, county parks most often yes, same with city parks. It depends on the state and specific area. You can call your local police dept and ask if permissible or check with local park and rec or on the county/province web site. Some require fees and permits, most do not.
