Kill Switch ON
@kontoname
3 ай бұрын
Having to log in again because of a bug isn't a kill switch. But speaking of that - what makes this so special? Millions of Steam accounts get banned without any explanation from Valve every year. Nintendo Switch has an actual Kill Switch, so has the PS5 etc. Tesla cars have it as well... Honestly it's more common than uncommon these days. Pretty much everything that comes with an "as a service" component will be unable to work without the parent company being alive. The difference being that Valve, Nintendo, Tesla etc. all ACTUALLY use it and brick accounts / devices and nobody complains.

@@kontoname Just because it's common doesn't mean it's ok. A couple months back there was a bug with the quest 1 where a lot of people including me couldn't sign in after factory resetting the headset or just signing out of your account. Now imagine that bug happened during the few week period where Quest 1 users couldn't sign in. And then imagine if Mata didn't fix the bug because the quest 1 is discontinued and lost software support. Every single Quest 1 user would be left with a paperweight.

@@NlCKELODEON speaking of comfort i recently bought an "ice silk" facial pad to use with my quest 3 and it's going to arrive tomorrow the videos i've watched mentioning that amvr ice silk (or just satin) facial pad say that it feels airy and feels like nothing is sitting on your face even when compressed, and i'm excited to use it, so i'd suggest you buy it i guess the headstrap i use is quite comfortable, it's essentially just the quest 2 replacement strap but with an adapter for the quest 3 and it fits quite well although the lower back strip doesn't seem to go down that much but it's still relatively tight enough i guess so in terms of comfort if you wanna improve it so that you can use vr more often, these are my suggestions, they definitely keep you coming back to using vr and if you have a quest 2, i'd suggest you upgrade to the quest 3 when you can cuz it's a MAJOR improvement in terms of clarity and i don't have trouble trying to find the visual sweet spot so i don't hesitate like last time

The update account process has been completely broken for me for a while. I can't convert my oculus to meta & I can't register my Quest 2 with my account. It's actually the primary reason I haven't been using my Quest 2. There's a very annoying repeating prompt to change over accounts that won't go away & I can't address it. Not to mention it is impossible to get this resolved by an actual human being at Meta.

Yeah, this kind of stuff is what I utterly hate about modern devices. If I pay £500 for my Quest 3 and then however much on games, I should be able to turn on that headset and play those games no matter what, excluding any online specific stuff obviously. Everything that's kinda running behind the surface layer on these Quest headsets is just a mess, and sometimes that's even true at a surface level as well. It's such a depressing thing that this is just considered kinda normal and acceptable in this day and age. Randomly related: I just love that I power on my SNES Classic Mini, get into the menu in a matter of seconds, select a game, press a button to start it, and I'm playing. And I will be able to do that for as long as either my life or the life of the device. That's how frictionless my Quest 3 should imo.

Wait for Apple to release what is expected to be a 1,500$ or so headset. Even if it’s the 3rd generation a few years from now. You’ll own it forever and it can’t pull this shit that Meta is doing.
I think this just confirms that Zuck has all the headsets on a kill-switch. If you need an online login to access your games already on the headset, that means you don't "own" your copy of them. And if even PCVR is bound to that...well, you have a brick on your face. A borrowed brick for an expensive price.

Honestly that is a big problem. Devices should all work perfectly well offline, and there should be no way for the company to brick your device
Hi, Keep up the great work, i love watching your uploads....of note...I went to use my Q3 today, to see I was no longer authenticated and a message popped on the Q3 screen to go onto META/DEVICES and input the code on display in my headset. Odd I thought but I did this and it then DEMANDED I provide my works email address???? Obviously I don't have one as I do not have a business account Q3 merely a home user. I was unable to skip this section therefore I could not use my headset. As you highlight my games and apps were gone and I could not use virtual desktop to get to play PCVR either. After moaning to META I am no further forward simply being told to factory reset which I have not done. Several advisors clearly did not understand my issue which was infuriating. One finally responded: I'm afraid to bring to your attention that we have an emerging issue on our end with some Quest headsets that are asking for work email, ,even user account is a consumer account. For this issue, we humbly ask for your extended patience and utmost understanding.
Why are you guys acting surprised?. like, you don't remember Facebook outage happening for like 9 hours 1 years & 6 months ago because their platforms intertwined with Facebook everything went down, The public crucified Meta. Because there VR platform went down when Facebook did rendering the headset on usable just like now & to combat that Meta said they would allow you to login via different means like email & it rolled out to everyone when doing so I logged in under email. Supposably ensuring me that this would not happen again!! Yet here we are. I was not able to use messenger, VR or Facebook during this outage tried logging in via email & every other form of login, did not work. I smell something fishy. Ps. I went straight to down doctor web page to see if anyone else was reporting issues.
The fact I couldn’t even use it connected with the link is absolutely absurd
I barely ever use my quest since I have a valve index and psvr2, but I just so happened to put it on during this outage and I was so confused 😅 It’s definitely concerning. I assumed it was only down for me because it’s linked to my Facebook account and I never bothered making a separate account, but apparently it was down for Absolutly everyone 😬

(1/2) I’ve had this and WAY worse happen to me with quests. I’ve had problems off and on ever since my first quest 2, and sometimes a quest won’t recognize my profile or let me sign in, and all my games disappear. This can happen and last as long as a month, then randomly fix itself. Also sometimes I’m in the middle of a game and it will all of a sudden cut off and act like it’s updating or something. Then it might get stuck and not be able to boot properly after that. Sometimes it will eventually fix itself, like after a few days or a few weeks, but then it might suddenly start working again. But then sometimes it will quit working again after a day or two and keep getting stuck showing a memory card looking thing and a download meter, which fills up, but then the thing boots and gets stuck in an infinite loop of varying lengths. With the infinite loop icon, or fittingly as hell the meta icon, and no matter what I do I can’t get it to work and have to wait and see if it will start working again sometime. When these problems happen I can’t connect my phone or computer To the quest, and it is just a brick as far as I’m concerned until it starts working again, if it ever does. And factory resetting, which I hate doing for obvious reasons, never seems to help. But it does help me to lose everything on that particular quest, so at least I get to have that as a consolation prize when I go out and buy yet another quest. Land then the battery strap contraption meta sells might break and start to be a real pain the butt as well. I’ve had problems with updates ever since I got my first quest. It used to be that no matter what you did you couldn’t get the quest to not automatically update both its OS and it’s apps. You couldn’t turn the auto-updating off, and all you could do was catch the thing in the process and cancel all the updates. Then at some point while you were playing you would have to go cancel all the updates again because they would try again. And you would have to do this again and again until you were somewhere the quest could update without using all your data up and costing you $20, $40, $60 or whatever when it uses data you don’t have. Even if you literally turned the quest off (actually shut it down) it would sometimes turn itself back on and start updating again. I really don’t know how I managed to not throw my quests through the window out of anger when this would happen, and if I was at somebody else’s house I really don’t think they would believe me when I would tell them that the quests update themselves automatically even if you shut them down. The only way you could prevent them from doing so was to turn your WiFi off. Or drain the quest batteries all the way so it couldn’t possibly update. Then I swear sometimes I would half expect it to come on secretly and start updating on some kind of reserve battery they didn’t tell you about or something. Or get the update through the phone, deleting my photos or something to make room (probably the full hard drive was the only reason it didn’t update this way if the quest on its own couldn’t update. There was like some kind of psychopathic quality to the way these machines were so determined to update constantly and use buttloads of your Internet data. One day I will be throwing one of them away or something and the light will turn on and if I look through the lenses I just know I will see apps in there all listed as updating as the data is being churned through. But I won’t look. I’ll just get out a sledge hammer and a couple three different kinds of guns and some gasoline matches and make sure that evil terminator is gone for real and can’t ever hurt anybody again. Except maybe in your dreams. It can always get to you while you’re dreaming. FOR . . . . . . EV . . . . . . VR . . . (1/2)
What's odd about this is I was playing zenith when this happened and a few of my friends disconnected but my headset kept working through this happening I only noticed an issue when trying to play later that night (almost midnight) where I was prompted to log back in using my phone did anyone else play anything through all this?
Tech companies don't see us as owners who should have agency over what we purchase, but rather as simple stewards of the hardware they make. The push to zero ownership it's just hastening it.
The underlying issue is that Quests have no actual offline mode. What they call offline mode just means that they're lenient about not having an active connection to Meta at all times and will cache previous credentials and directives from prior contact with Meta. But these devices will not operate outside of Meta's control. The public just accidentally got a taste of that for an hour.
I was trying to record a video...set everything up only to realize nothing was working oculus related
Yeah, I think we all knew it could happen, but we never considered that it would happen and when it did, it screwed over every single one of their customers. It definitely highlighted the impact of this happening though since Twitter errupted into confusion and all our headsets stopped working, and because it force signed everybody out of their devices etc, noone could even attempt to try to use it offline. I've seen Facebook outtages before, but this is the first time every single one of my devices were forceably logged out before the crash happened, so I worried they were testing something.

@@mrdummy_nl Where was said news? Every news update I watched said the quest 3 was omitted from this feature which I would assume is because of how the inside out tracking works on the quest 3 where it uses estimation based tracking less IR tracking and it gets the estimation from hand based tracking on the controllers. That could be bypassed with the quest pro controllers but the quest 3 would have to recognize the controllers being paired and enabling the activation of said experimental features so you can you it on the MQ3
This is very concerning the Government needs to get involved and investigate this for possible illegal insider stuff or a massive cyberattack.

I knew of the mass log off
(2/2) I have bought a total of 5 quests now. Plus 2 PSVR2 units, so VR headsets must really be fragile little POS’s. And for the most part I only ever play Pistol Whip, Beat Saber, and Gran Turismo 7. But I have had to purchase 7 headsets to continue to play those three games. Currently, I have exactly one headset that I can play Pistol Whip on and one headset I can play Gram Turismo on. Out of the 3 Quest 2 units I own (1 @ 125 GB or whatever the smallest one was, and 2 @ 250 GB, I believe, or whatever the big one is), one of them still works. It’s one of the larger ones and it is completely useless for playing Pistol Whip. Every single Pistol Whip round I try to play on that device glitches out on me at least 3 or 4 times, which always results in me losing points, and when you’re competing for first place in the world at anything, you absolutely cannot afford to lose points every single round. I’ve even removed Pistol Whip from the headset, then recorded videos to take up the space it freed up (then deleted the videos again to make room for Pistol Whip) so that when I re-installed Pistol Whip it would actually have to re-download the whole game. Which it did. It made zero difference whatsoever. Both of the other quest 2’s would play pistol whip just fine. But alas, they no longer play anything. One of them’s screen quit working and the other is perpetually stuck at the infinite loop . If I play Pistol Whip on PSVR2, in addition to the fact that the game just doesn’t play as well as it does on oculus, and the oculus with no wires at that, I have virtually no career points. So I would have less than zero chance of ever competing for first place, at least in career mode. So PSVR2 is out. That leaves the Quest 3’s. One of them is stuck in the infinite loop despite factory resetting. It started to work again for like 2 days, then right back to the loop BS. So I am literally down to one headset that I can play Pistol Whip on. WTMFBSMFBH!?!?! It’s no effing wonder I can compete for a world ranking. Nobody else has managed to find a way to keep a quest working enough to not miss days and challenges and screw them out of the career leaderboard, which, let’s just be real here, is much more of an attendance chart than an actual skills ranking list. Which might partly explain why I just leave my generic user name for my scores. So nobody will ever know it’s me. Oh, no. I’ve ruined that, haven’t I? Well it’s too late now. Nothing to do about it I suppose. Now 1, possibly two people in the world will know that Pistol Whip player and this KZread creator are one and the same. I’m sure you’re all-every single one of you reading this, and I know there are at least ones of you, possibly times zero even, must be simply DYING to go tell lots of people this headline news, but your 1.5 friends probably include at least one imaginary bff that only you can see, and even you know that you’re not quite being honest with yourself or your other imaginary friend when you say that you can see your bff. And that AI chatbot ain’t gonna fool number 2 either, especially since he’s still pretty sore at being informed in a blog post that he’s outranked by the invisible hand . . . of the AI chatbot market, which still doesn’t sound like a real boy yet in that free version you used to try to keep from looking pathetic to a character you both know is really only yourself pretending to be another personality in the mind of a person trying to convince another fake personality in his head that he has multiple personalities disorder so that rather than being a person with no friends he can at least be a crazy person. With no friends. Says the guy posting a long, rather uninteresting, non-entertaining KZread post about purchasing way too many POS single player VR headsets that the only reader of this post (and his two imaginary best friends, plus now his imaginary psychiatrist, I suppose) is going to highly suspect broke due to excessive overuse. And possibly due to some kind of strange new AI based social experiences involving expensive Japanese aftermarket “equipment,” which his two friends did not seem to enjoy nearly as much as he pretended to enjoy them. But hey, sometimes you just gotta suck it up and take one for the team . . . or with the team. Or maybe you gotta fake it until you can make it or something. Or keep your head down and your chin up and hang in there. Don’t let people (or AI chatbots) ish all over you just to save face in front of your “friends” . . . Get ‘er done! Uh, I think I completely got off topic there, and had been headed that way for a minute. So one of the PSVR2’s just Quit working as well. Just wouldn’t turn on at all. So I had to get a new one of those. I think it should still maybe be under warranty, if I don’t wait any longer. Maybe even the first quest 3, but I doubt it. I should get on that right away. Man, what have I been doing with my time? Oh yeah. That not thing with the not people in the not place. In other words, playing VR. I swear, if I weren’t getting a good workout I couldn’t do it. I would just feel like I’m wasting my limited time on this earth. Just like I wouldn’t be able to sit here and write this stupid post if I weren’t sort of practicing my writing, ordering my thoughts, and making a note to self all at the same time. Or if people were actually going to read this besides Me, Myself, and Irene. I didn’t tell you their names before, did I? Like it matters. JK. Must have slipped my mind. I wasn’t purposely being vague regarding your names, MF, and i.e. Me? I’m just gonna get back to the life of a User with a long inmate number for my digital ID and shoot my virtual pistols at virtual robots with my virtual friends all up in my virtual head. Just Me, MF, and i.e. playin some good old fashioned Pistol Whip on my 7th VR headset which I’m sure will all cost me a fortune one day when I actually have to pay for them. With interest, of course. But by then I will own nothing and be happy. I suppose I’m already halfway there. I just own too many things for the other half to be true any time soon. Thank God. Not owning things sucks. I think. I can’t remember that long ago. But there weren’t any video games to be owned back then, so it must have sucked, right? Right? Am I right? Oh, you two are no fun anymore. Ever since I’ve had a kid you two are nowhere to be heard. If you ever really were. I’m beginning to suspect you were just manifestations of my longing for fatherhood. Because it is the best quest there could ever be. It’s infinitely better than some dumb VR headsets that break faster than my will when my baby asks if she can have some candy. Damn, I gotta work on that. Piece nickel. I’m Audi Ocho Stinko. I’m out like a J6 hand. I’m out like a handemic squirtual virus. I’m out like a Tesla in a solar flare.

I didn't get an error code, i was still logged to my account but my headset had internet connection issues, it would constantly disconnect or have game breaking lag, at a point my apps library wouldn't load. Did factory reset and it seems to have fixed it.
At least it works now, for the past month I cant use it because meta doesn't want to fix the water/debris error in usbc port, it has a lot of users affected and it is just horrible..... Overall I am really disapointed and really thinking about selling my quest or just burning it and never recommending it to anyone again.
Wait you can play Pacific Drive in VR!!!! How do I do that!
What if you bypass the oculus dashboard?
How exactly can I tell whether I have migrated my account? It seems like it's done, but I don't want to risk anything
My quest 2 doesn’t still work
I am never getting rid of my Rift S.

I still like my S for the comfort. I bounce back and forth between my Quest 3 and the Rift S depending on what I'm using them for.
I got rid of my quest 3 and ps5 and got a steam deck and a PC rig.
I love the quest 3 and was planning on upgrading to one, but this is a major dealbreaker.. I can use my headset (Reverb G2) even without internet, and I assume SteamVR headsets like the index and htc vive series can do that as well. Having hardware that can't function without some sort of authorization puts a sour taste in my mouth, and I won't be buying this product. I was happy when you no longer needed a facebook account to use one, but this puts them right back on square one for me. If I buy a product it's mine, and I should be able to use it how and whenever I want.
Dude... did Meta seriously logged you on Demeo on another persons account???? THAT'S SO CONCERNING! They just gave you acces to another person private info... wow
it is time for a web xr headset no sigh in offline use only this is a bigmarket for someone who wants it
my quest 2 still has the error code

@@edecha9477 did you get your quest to work? I contacted support and they are telling me they can't do anything for me and need to replace it. One of the first steps they had me do was factory reset and now it won't pair with the app.
Team pico here
Im so glad i didnt buy one. I just knew this was going to happen. They collect data and you can lose access in moments. The cons outweigh the pros
Always online service should wake alot of you guys up.
Meta didn't break the quest neither did the outage... it just meant those who were still conected to wifi couldn't log in to the quest. They're fixing it
I almost regretted transitioning to quest 3 from G2 when this happened yesterday. Glad to hear that this was a "black swan event" and not something likely to ever happen again.

except this already happened a few years ago in a slightly different way. so this exact thing might not happen again, but as long as they try to lock down the device this could keep happening. the only way it wont is if they completely stop trying to lock down the device in any way. hopefully this will lead to the device getting closer to that point. but i kinda doubt it.

This wasn't the Black Swan Event, this was a test run.
Wow, Meta headsets and all games in their eco system do not belong to you! Keep that in mind! PCVR is the way to go! Are there news on Sony`s PC driver for PSVR2?
Upload 8k or 4k quality, not 1080p which youtube makes 540p blureed crap untill you pay for 1080p "high bandwidth". dude... don't you test-watch your own videos even?
ZUCKERBUGGER
😂😂no issues with my Rift S

What is most likely to have happened is that the engineers never thought about the event of such an outage since you can permanently have your quest offline and it will always work. ya'll over reacting.
Thanks for this video. Clarified it from the VR user perspective. I’m sure a ton of this is buried in the TOS that none of use read and just hit the accept button on.

TOS is quite horrible tbh. But this lies into unforeseen circumstances therefore they don't owe nothing. I wonder if they got sued
Who cares? It's not the end of the world and happens to lots of large companies and services.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
So, no apology, no acknowledgment on KZread or twitter. To my mind, you you until this video went up to acknowledge the mistake of accepting a highly dubious sponsorship. Theres absolutely no chance uou didn't see the mass objection in the comments from the last video, so uou choosing to ignore it proves you aren't listening to your community. So I won't be a part of it going forward for that reason.

I was actually without internet the entire last week, you can check on my twitter, but yeah, I need to improve with "social" things, I have the feeling people don't really care about the back stories, so I usually don't mention it, and that's on me, I'm trying to improve on that front... but I heard the feedback loud and clear when I got my connection back. No more temu. Error on my side to don't dig deeper into it, as the product that I received were all fine.
The Quest 3 is now trash! Now we know what they can do to take all your stuff. That's a bad thing find out for us all.

Hence why I would never buy any product made by META/Facebook. I threw away my Oculus when it was bought by Facebook. Hell no.

Well, things happen. For me I have other VR headsets to go to should it happen again. Am i worried about it, NO!!!! It not like Meta purposely had this shutdown happen, and it was corrected. You people make it out to be an End of the World situation. Get a life. Bye!!!!
