Mesoscale modeling of composite materials in Abaqus - Part 2

In this video, we performed mesoscale modeling of composite laminate using ABAQUS. Each ply was connected using cohesive surface behavior from the interaction module.

I am very thankful for this video, I just want to know if there is a method to analyse printed polymers (layer by layer). The same material with different orientation.

Sir, I did not get what did you do in mesh stack options? How do you know that it is inconsistent? What does it mean?

can you suggest the theoretical background/equations for this analysis type?

you can check in google about classical laminate theory for basic equations.. but such theoretical analysis do not exist for case when you have delamination and progressive damage modes

Can you provide a modeling with solid3D for composit

hello , When I try to run the simulation it existed with this error : Problems have occurred during the initial stiffness assembly. The analysis will be terminated any idea how to fix that ? i followed the steps of the video as well

why stack orientation is important here? I do not get it sir

to have uniform stress(load) distribution...since composite (matrix and fiber) when you employ different orientation you will facilitate uniform stress distributions.

What is difference between meso scale and macroscale??

Macroscale.. you have no ply to ply delamination since all plies are modeled within single ply of shell elemets (with various integration point through the thickness). In meso, you model each ply separately so you can model the interface explicitly with whatever interface model you want..

Why did you chose axis 3 while assigning the orientation

  • @FEADith

Because i plan to use 1 2 as my inplane direction.. when i choose 3 as out of plane.. You can set as you want as long as tgey are consistent between material property input and orientation assignemnt.. For me e11 fbr dir, e22 trns inplane, 33 out of plane. Thats why i chose 3 as my rotation axis.
