    the lady at the church was super cool, the bakery looked amazing, the old building was also cool. there is no doubt that some areas are bad but there is no denying that this place is a proper community and full of history

    The old buildings remind me very much of the Newport I remember from 40 years ago before major redevelopment. (Before they ruined it). Nice to see historic buildings. 👍👍👍

Started boxing at 8 years old in Abercanaid small village just outside town, you guys should check it out and ask them about the Welsh Road Warrior who made it to Hollywood and not only met his idol but got to work along side Rocky Balboa lol!     Visited merthyr town fc as an away supporte, found the people ti be very welcoming. i have definitely been to worse places and it has a few nice pubs..

    I have never been to the town, it's quite a lovely place. Nice to see many shops open. I have only been that way to go to Trago Mills and pay my respects at Aberavon. Great vid.👍👍

    I watched a documentary on the Merthyr Matchstick a few months ago. He got knocked down in a fight and never woke up because of a condition he had, his skull was too thin so his brain was basically bouncing around in his skull and receiving trauma as he took blows. Great vlog, by the way!

    Fanstastic vid of my home town, It's nice to see a positive video showing that a lot of the negative things that's said is total BS. I now live in Tredegar which is one of the worst places to live, I do hope you go back to Merthyr as it is a lovely little town that polititians don't care about but the locals do ❤

    @@Spudboys You're welcome, If you get the chance to go back then the old blast furnace, worlds oldest surviving iron bridge and Thomas Parry's cottage is near by, Trevithick tunnel is just outside Merthyr and I'm sure a lot of other places that I don't even know are to be found, there is so much history.

    I was in Merthyr two weeks ago, I'd already seen this video and I mentioned I was going to go the bakery in the market before I left to try some of those cakes. I was saddened to hear it had now closed......and she was opening up her own cafe somewhere in town. I'm back in Merthyr in a few months and will try to find out where it is.

    Great video of my Town. You missed so much more, the Town is full of historical buildings. Look out for the Historical Walks around the Town throughout the summer with historian Huw Williams :) :)

    Cyfartha castle is worth a look in Merthyr . If you continued a further 100 meters up at the end of the video you would come across the old theatre. Great video guys, really enjoyed it.

    Nice to see my old stomping grounds, I lived in Merthyr vale in the early 2000s for a few years, worked in the t mobile call centre that was situated close to where you started the video, it’s gone now. That bank was a Barclays, used to go in there once a week or so. Lived in Barry since I moved from Merthyr in 2005 but I’m gonna have a drive up soon and have a mooch around. The street I used to live in was called Crescent street and was actually abandoned not long after I moved, council moved and entire 2 streets due to flooding, if you look on KZread lots of explorers went to look at the abandoned street before it was bulldozed down

    back in the day merthyr was a very very big part of the welsh mining industry and cyfartha castle was the home of William Crawshay and near the castle is a clock tower and the clock tower only has the clock on 3 sides because william didn’t want his workers to know the time so he could make them work longer hours and stuff like that there is loads and loads of history and stuff online about merthyr it’s self it’s a nice town on times but it’s was nice back in the day

    @@Spudboys There is loads of little details about the castle when you go in castle they have turned it into a museum you should go have a look at that too , If you just drive around merthyr you will see loads of historical buildings like the old general hospital and the red house. It is a really nice town but has a bad reputation

    I grew up in merthyr and left in 1990. Visited in 2004 and was discussed with the physical condition and the poor attitude of the people.. Not going back..

    The positvity is great, but "living in Merthyr" is not represented by the town centre . There are many better - and worse, possibly - parts of the town. Nice to see the positive approach, though.

    Thanks for making the video, if the truth is known, Merthyr Tydfil is head and shoulders above every other Valley town or area in Wales, you only just touched the surface, we are in the heart of the Brecon Beacons such a beautiful part of Wales, I have travelled all over Europe Merthyr has a few influential knockers who know sweet fuck all about anything.

    ​@@Spudboys Twyn hill is just off the roundabout in front of the Tesco. Immediately left of the Dominoes there. There's a couple of pubs and a chapel on the way up, but it's quite steep.

Yds and crossed the road There is a monument to Richard Trevithick you think that Stevenson’s Rocket was the first steam locomotive WRONG Richard Trevithick invented a locomotive 20 years before Stevenson that ran between Merthyr and Abercynon and that is just scratching the surface of.     There used to be a pet shop down that alley run by a man named Clark. About 1950-ish I tried to persuade my mother to buy the small pet monkey he had. No luck--I had to settle for a tortoise.

    I would argue that there is a place in Eastbourne that is the tird worst place in the UK and Merthyr Tydfil is only the fourt worst place in the UK and Europe

    In the UK and Europe? It's really not that bad. I know some places on the estates are pretty rough but if you're 4th then you would think the town would be terrible but it wad very pleasant
