My Dad had all of Merle's albums! I was the record changer as a kid! Would sit on back porch and sing these songs with my Dad! Those memories are precious!

A lot of people may not realize that line. It was tough as hell for an Okie to make it in the land of promise. Not as easy as one would think.

Love listening to him in the beginning of his career. He changed so much with the years and he just got better. He was the best of the best. I will always love his music.

Definitely got better the older he got..

His voice and the way he performed his songs changed through the decades, all were incredible. But these early live videos are the real proof of what a soaring vocalist he was.

My husband and I both love Merle. He was Great!!!

One of his biggies.. A great song off Merle's 1969 album titled "A Portrait of Merle Haggard". One of six albums Merle would release in 1969.

Assuming it to be lip synched since no one in the video is playing the guitar licks we hear.

A great song.. not his best performance. Not " real " enough for a Haggard performance. His appearance on Marty Stuart when he was older had more raw emotion and gripped your soul. His son Marty also did a great job with this song.

People forget just how shockingly versatile Merle Haggard was in his Musical prime. In addition to heartrending Ballads he did note perfect hilarious impersonations of Marty Robbins, Hank Snow, Buck Owens, and Johnny Cash. Plus he was a Cover Story of the Jazz Magazine "Downbeat."😂🤔🎤🎼🎵🎶🎸🎹🎻🎷🎺🥁B.W.
