No one ever sang or played a guitar then or now, any way near as good as Merle Haggard; he got out of jail and helped.lots of people then and today 29 December 2022 and from now on. We learn so much from the lyrics of every song he ever wrote.and.played and sang too. JOHNNY PAYCHECK is one of my favourites too, & johnny paycheck's song Motel time. I was homeless for 4months and.Thanks to my GENEROUS mother and father and what they gave me.after.they had passed away...motel time...was EXACTLY AS IT WAS. In his song [minus the alcohol, I don't drink.it]

Mearle really tried hard and took Johnny Paycheck under his wing when Johnny was down and out. His liquor and coke habit really got him in alot of trouble. But Mearle saw a great country artist that needed a hand and helped.

Great song, the audio quality SUCKS

There truly is nothing to compare to this older Counry and Western music. And,now it's only country music,without the "Western" that gave it it's distinction. My parents played Country and Western music all my life. They toured with me in tow,and this song was one of those my Mom sang. My parents toured from 1947 throughout the late 60's,when they retired finally. Merle Haggard was one of their peers at the time,and played at a couple of venues with him. Same with Waylon Jennings. I remember him well. He liked to play Horse,a dice game. He let me play that game with him once. :}

The two best writer/singers of country music are Meryl Haggard and Willie Nelson. They sing my life like it or not.

Now this is what talent looks and sounds like people!! We miss you Merle ..

One song that will played at my memorial. Had funeral for client & had friend play guitar & harmonica. Funeral director said one of the most best service he had seen. There was no organ/piano, just Darryl & his instruments. Played all her favorite songs..

Thanks for posting and a special thanks to Billy Don Burns for all his efforts in getting Merle and Johnny together. Merle was extremely busy with his engagements and he made time for this show.

I heard he was in kansas on tour when he got the word about playing he said he. Would and he took a private jet. To ross county airport did the gig for johnny. Then jeted. Right back to his gig now that is friendship at its bet

stare into that mans face , and you know, he has lived much longer than he ever thought he would.

Merle really put his heart & soul in his song. Real country which is about gone!!

Only video I recall of merle while he’s under the influence of something.... either way; it’s nothing short of excellent, like everything else he recorded

Whether he was or wasn't under the influence, I read an article about Merle where it stated that he admitted to spending $2,000 a week on cocain. Not unusual for musicians with a very demanding life style. I still love the "Hag"--he was one of the best!

Fantastic! I hope to see the entire Paycheck/ Merle CCI concert at CCI remastered and released some day.. I use to have a cassette tape of at least a portion of it that had to be at least 3 or 4 generations out. Very poor quality. Someone has to have the original material, yeah?

Shakeyleg, I've been wondering about that,,,would think more video and DVDs would have been released. Is the Haggard family not wanting this or is there an underlying issue that we are not privy to? When Jones and Cash died, seemed like market was flooded with so much. Merle deserves to be out there in video and DVD,,,,thank Goodness we have You Tube and Amazon and others to keep his music alive.

If the movie about his life ever actually gets made maybe part of that would be a piggyback release of new material. None of us are getting any younger. 😆
