I think the 4x4 Squared is the most off-road capable street vehicle (at least unmodified) ever sold, and the Unimog is the most highway-capable farm tractor ever sold. I want both!

The 4x4 Squared is just a G Wagen that was given the suspension and transmission of a modern UniMoG. It is missing the flexible chassis though thus not quite as capable as a moggie. Probably cheaper than a new Unimog...

@@gustavmeyrink_2.0 It has solid axles with portal boxes, but if I understand correctly, all G-Wagens have rear leaf springs where the Unimogs have coils (not sure if that applies to every variant). Also the transmissions are very different. The 4x4 Squared has a torque converter automatic (other G-Wagens have conventional 5-speed or 6-speed manuals) whereas the Unimogs have a variety of multi-range manuals or even a few have semi-automatic clutch manuals.

Guys, I loved this decision (12:40") "... we go around". That shows the real offroader, not these guys who try to force the technolgy and end up rolling down the hill faster, that they could drive down. Know your cars limits and you can have a lot of fun offroad. Looking forward to more of such videos. Thanks for sharing and showing, that "full throttle" is not a general solution to "all problems".

Very cool to see these vehicles perform in the awesome landscape of Utah. 👍 I grew up with Unimogs as workhorses on farms, as utility vehicles, and to have fun with in places no ordinary vehicle dared to tread. Later in life, I had the pleasure of driving G-wagons (long wheel-base and ambulance (MB 290GD, 5 cylinder in-line, aka 'Wolf')) on and off European roads serving in the army as a medic. Even US Humvee medics I met during military exercises were impressed with our European 'dinky toys' back in 1996.. ..My 'gebakje' (=lit. pastry/baked treat) never ever let me down when my life depended on it...

The same trails Whistlin Diesel drove in a clapped out broken Hilux. I'd far rather use one of these.

Nice video, and a pleasure to see these two vehicles together! It must be mentioned that the driver of the Unimog at 03:18 is not correctly driving down a slippery rock face like that, completely losing control of the vehicle in the process. Had it been more difficult terrain, he could have slid straight into disaster! Simply engaging lowest gear, turning on differential locks, and using engine braking (never the brakes!) to control the vehicle, you would crawl down that or any obstacle twice as extreme safely and with full control. Of course the initial comment in the video, that a stock Unimog from the 1970s will absolutely wipe the floor with any civilian 4x4 like a Wrangler Rubicon, is true. But remember that the Unimog weighs more than twice as much, and requires twice the skill and responsibility to drive off-road correctly.

Thanks for watching the video. The tire lift at 03:18 was done on purpose by a skilled off-road driver. We were trying to put the rear tire in the air on purpose for the video. But you are correct, in a low gear it would have easily gone right down the face of it.

@@adrenalinindustries I'm sure the violent, uncontrolled rolling backwards after stalling the engine at 12:15 was also done on purpose to show... something ;-) No worries mate, it's a really fun video and great eye candy - and we all make mistakes. Most of the uphill drives are done nicely, but most of the downhill drives are done questionably - like somebody who is used to computerized hill descent control or similar - instead of how to properly control a very heavy, all-manual truck like a Unimog. Be safe out there with it - when things go wrong, it's twice the weight and twice the destructive force. Looking forward to seeing more videos of either of these two vehicles.

Actually at 12:15 it's a completely different story. lol. In that clip it was actually me driving (Cole). At that point I had minimal off-road driving experience and virtually none in a Unimog. I was in too tall of gear and still learning. However the other two drivers (Jud & Casey) have spend decades off-roading and have tons of experience in Unimog's. Both these vehicles have been sold since this video. But we have a new G550 squared with content coming soon and more Unimog's we make videos on as well. Thanks for watching!

For the Unimog - you should use other tires and a (don’t know the English name) “Reifendruckregelanlage”. It would make it much saver and easier and the unimog shouldn’t start sliding on Extrem terrain. Otherwise, very good video. Oh and maybe some Hutchinson beadlock with also a RDKS for the G.

The Unimog is too Top-Heavy!!!! You going to roll it in a heart beat!!!!! Ask me all about it. Looks nice and is good in deep mud and snow but don't take it up steep inclines! You want to follow the other, smaller vehicles and boom... it happens just like that😮
