Mercedes Benz S600 W220 oil leak that’s insanely hard to repair

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I am not sure what I should do with this car, this Mercedes-Benz S600 V12 it fully loaded, a beautiful car. It starts and drives excellent, but the work that's needed may be too much,
Let me know what your thoughts are on what you would do and what I should do.
thanks for viewing!

    Great video again mate, great that the dealership actually seems to appreciate you! Mercedes-Benz need people like you , I think it depends on how passionate you are about your big Benz , you have to remember these cars like yours will never be seen again, and they’re only cheap because no one has the skills to fix them ! 😎👍

    Lou buddy... you do what the hell you want to do. Some people commenting on euro trash etc. You know my beater benz. I would not part with it. The M... F... gets up and moves, but with smooth luxury and class. The refinement of these cars are amazing and not to mention the history. For me, it is not a status symbol, as it is a beater, but a love for the engineering that went into these cars. Not talking about C or E class, but the S classes. Nothing has to be done today about your car... give it time and thought.

    We just had this discussion last week. Mercedes and a good deal never go together. Same as all the BMW I run into. Suck a shame what these 20 year old German cars turn into. Typically goes back to the prior owners not maintain them. Oh and I heard “LS swap” 😉 that car is worthy of that for sure

    Great video! Definitely getting better at staying on topic. So are you just going to replace that one gasket, or replace all of them like Alex did and give that thing a full refresher..could probably get 10k all finished..I mean it would be a deal to get something like that after a rebuild..basically a new v12. Keep the videos coming.

    The more exotic the car, the more expensive they are to fix, and not just a little more, the cost can go up exponentially. My heart goes out to you brother, yeah on one hand its a really nice car but I honestly wouldn't have a hardon for doing all that work. Would've been nice if the Mercedes engineers thought this one out a little better.

Afterwards you can detail and sell the car to one of your subscribers with the video evidence of being a great car. Its not about economical value, its about audience which is watching a superb mechanic.

    Given the ABYSMAL state of the modern car industry, drivetrains like this are already extinct. You already have it. You're capable. Put it back to where it needs to be. I don't know if you still play (guitar), but for a musician such as myself, 50 hrs of work is just par for the course, and naturally in the music world I'm lucky if I get paid 10 out of those 50 hrs of work. At least at the end of your long haul, you will have a Mercedes V12. More power to ya!

    I have an 04 S600 as well, but in Black! Mine has 150,000 miles! I have similar problems, like the rear main seal, and valve stem seals! My ABC hose blew last week, I’m giving up on ABC and am converting to coilovers with the YSR kit. Quick question, does your car smoke on cold starts because of the valve stem seals? Mine does sometimes. These are great cars, the good thing is all of it’s problems are already known! For the conversion, my ABC pump is bad, it was whining while driving, but the power steering was still perfect, even after the ABC shut off. Do I have to buy a V12 conversion pump from VKK for $399, or a regular non ABC S500 pump for $70 and just get my V12 pulley? Or like dome people, just make the ABC reservoir dry, as some people have done it successfully without damaging the power steering side of the pump? Thanks!

  • @MasterTechLou

    @MasterTechLou

    Oddly enough it does not smoke on startup which worries me that maybe its all in the cats….. but when I had a few plugs pulled there is a lot or carbon and oil in the cylinders…… as for the pump ive never done a conversion myself so this is new territory for me. Ill have to check out the company you mentioned! Thanks for that!

    @Master Tech Lou Every interior part your 600 donates to my S55 will be replaced with my S55 parts (seats/headliner/dash,door panels, etc) so it won't be stripped and left for dead. Your 600 will be on jackstands and covered up in my backyard so whenever I'm bored and feeling it I'd do the repairs that the M275 needs eventually. So when I say I want the 600 for parts, it's not really "parts" just an S600 with S55 interior lololol

    Master Lou, such a fan. I saw all of Alex's CL65 rebuild since had an S600 at the time and I thought he went overboard on that $10 o ring. He could have epoxied the hell out of it n it would have held. But as we know Alex is kinda anal when it comes to cars n wants things perfect. Regarding your great MB I'd do the same, n don't pull the engine. Too much headache! Regarding the valve seals just use a heavier oil wt. 20/50 synthetic is good. However on cold starts it will blow some bluish oil. My S55 has about the same mileage n does the same.

    Here's my thoughts Lou. If the body is rust free and the interior and electrical is good what would it be worth to a buyer without the mechanical problems? And if didn't have the mechanical problems would you happily keep it? As you are well aware, if you start to pull it a part you will find other issues which personally I would allow $1000.00 US. I have no idea what the car is worth in the US. But if you like it, can afford it, increase the value of it. I'd fix it, drive it and when ready sell it. At least for a break even price. Good luck making the right decision.

    @@MasterTechLou I think that comes with age Lou. When we are young we don't mind using our time in pursuit saving some coin or doing mechanical work because basically we enjoy it and the results. But as we a bit older (me almost 68) we get very selective about where we spend our time. At this age it is my most valuable commodity. Sometimes paying someone else to do the work while we pursue something more enjoyable.
