Mercedes Benz 608D LF8 Fire Truck Camper Conversion | Van Tour 2020 | Van Life

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

It's 2020 and It's time for a Van Tour, come and take a look inside...
The Mercedes Benz 608D LF8 Fire Truck Camper is ready for travelling again and this year there are a few changes. This video is a fast paced van tour detailing all of the bits and pieces that are inside and out of this fantastic fire truck camper.
I have done all of the work myself, everything in here is either made or repurposed to fit and function as I intended. I am not a carpenter, welder, electrician, plumber, or interior designer, things are completed to a standard I am happy with and it all is fully functional.
I hope you like the video and the camper, if you do please subscribe for more content from me and my collection of things.

Super nice conversion, very respectful of the original aspect of the truck. Saving the original back cabin and shutters was a winning move. Like it very much, bravo! Ciao from Milan!

A very interesting video and the truck is just great. I am driving 310D camper in Japan, because mine is smaller, I envy you the space :). I like your way of arranging the interior. Thank you for sharing the video.

Hi I've been thinking of a firetruck conversation for a while. Do you have standing height in the camper?

Hi Glenn, thanks for show us your home. I am considering building a camper from a fire truck, something like the modern Dennis or Volvo which are most popular win the UK. However, I have never seen a conversion even after extensive searches on the internet - do you know why this may be? I am thinking the drive train from front to back inhibits the headspace...but welcome for any suggestions. There are loads converted to coffee vans etc but not a home.

Hi, I think the problem with modern trucks is not a ride height or transmission issue, seems to mainly be as a result of the water tank, the rear structure is built around the tank and removal of it and the retention of the rear structure is difficult, not impossible though. The coffee trucks I have seen simply use the space to the side and rear of the water tank, there is plenty of storage in them but of course not enough room for a living space. There is almost always going to be a headroom compromise, this has not been a problem for me, I don't mind the low roof.

Hey, nice job! Since you have not isolated the truck I'm wondering what is the lowest outside temerature you have slept in and how was it inside?

Hello, perhaps -5 degrees celsius, I have now insulated curtains but still with room for air to move, and a diesel heater so the truck remains warm and dry inside, no hidden moisture traps.

What is the top speed? Cruising speed? MPG? Enjoyable drive? Suspension isn't harsh? Looking at something similar.

85-90 km/h is best, 24-26mpg on a long run, short trips with stop start use more. I like driving it and with a little load the ride is good. If you want higher speed, better mpg and smoother ride get a Sprinter.

How do the roller shutter doors cope with cold air ingress in colder nights?

  • @GlennJobson

    @GlennJobson

    2 жыл бұрын

You need to think of them the same way you would a glass window, if it is cold outside then the cold will penetrate, I use a combination of hanging insulated curtains and my diesel heater, no problem at all. Insulated where it can be, mitigated where it can't. Great in the spring and summer though, cool nights.

It didn't have one, in Germany lots of fire appliances don't have them, they are just mobile pumps, it had a huge pump on the front, something like 800l per minute?
