I can't believe more people aren't subscribed to what is a TV-quality show showing a real craftsman restoring significant and fascinating cars. I love this "Gary as traveling mechanic" series. :)
Hi Gary another great video thanks. Was glad to see you using a mask when changing the brake cylinders. As an apprentice in the early seventies, brake and clutch dust wasn't considered dangerous, now at 67 yo with damaged lungs, hot on the safety aspect now. Too late for me but for others it's not . Glad to see you are role modeling, showing others the dangers. Just after midnight so it Tuesday morning here. Off to bed. Thanks Gary, I appreciate your patience and efforts in bringing us your enlighting videos. Top hole mate. Kiwi Ken 😊
The owner of the 190 SL can be very pleased to have you as his mechanic. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
The meld of automotive expertise and nostalgic background music make this my new favourite you tube channel.
For Sure thats a million dollar car!!😮😮😮👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️
I purposely waited to watch this one when I knew I wouldn't be disturbed. Here I am at 02:00 in the morning, bowl of crunchy nut cornflakes and the house asleep.. except for me. Was not disappointed! Great work and lovely video as always!
Only 70 years old and needing all this work already! The pace and content of your films is outstanding Gary.
That rear drum assembly is an engineering work of art. The whole car is amazing. Couldn't believe the condition of the engine! The stuff we all dream of.
Another masterclass in classic car restoration , cool ,calm and collected. I wish I had a tenth of your skills!

love the relaxing pace of these Gary, thank very much
It’s Gary Mavers ! I shout that every time a new vid pops up I don’t know why ! Top job man
I was gratified to see that you drive around in a car that I have and love, the Jaguar XK8.
Fantastic work Gary, love it!
Slow and steady, gentle music, diligent and explanatory - thanks Gary, just what is needed for a restoration..!
Brilliant again Gary
Better than peak practice any day
Maybe after you finish all the bits! Take it to someone who can dry ice all the engine bay ! And all under the car!! For that deep clean!!!

Nice work Gary….watching you makes me want an old Mercedes. Thank you for sharing your passion and skills with us!
Another amazing episode.
Nice to see some old school mechanicing , even as a paint sprayer i did my own servicing on cars back in the day very satisfying . Great video .
Awesome, beautiful running engine, thanks for another great episode!
Thanks for sharing this sympathetic restoration. It will be nice for this beauty to be back on road.
You have kindly replied to a number of my comments over the last few days and I think you for your time! We have all been ill over Christmas and it has been a great discovery for me to find your channel, you should have many more subscribers! Lovely work mate!
Great to see/hear the Old girl butsting back into life. Amazing to see the "glaring mistakes" from a previous mechanic(s) work. Really enjoyable. (I'm just jealous I'll never be able to afford a Merc 190 SL !!
Great video! As a side note, Wow, $3 million would absolutely be life-changing… I certainly would not have turned down that offer for the Cobra.
Top Man Gary! you are one of the good guys
Another video? You're knocking them out like the doormen on the Eagle and Child!

Top Ho! Great to see the icing going on the cake for another happy classic car enthusiast..well done
Love it! Thanks for sharing this with us!
Fascinating
Brilliant content Gary - Thank you 🙏
Well done Gary from Liverpool England
Favourite channel!
Nice benz😜
Great video Gary 👍🏻😀
At least the outside and cockpit of the 190 look great. All that work with engine, breaks, and ignition has got so frustrating. It’s worth it because the 190 is worth it.
Gary. Another interesting and well-produced video. You entice the garage mechanic to get busy with projects in a methodical and calm way. I live in Los Angeles and parts can be found (just need to know where). We have plenty of car meetings of all descriptions and the community is a welcoming place. Keep visiting!

Delighful
Hey Gary - Loved this episode and great to see the SL burst into life ! I wonder if the same person who got the bumpers on upside down was the same person who did the starter etc ? Either way, great to see the SL taking shape. $3m for the Cobra - if it were mine it would be gone and Id have several vehicles in my collection including Porsche 928and Rolls Royce Silver Shadow:-) I bet this is one of a number of vehicles he's got anyway ! Come back soon and give us some more progress on the vehicles back home ! Cheers Stew
Wonderful Gary could watch it for houres you certainly have amazing skills. How's your Corniche doing you worked wonders on that. I own a 1982 SilverSpur. Keep these shows coming there so addictive.
Great voice and hairpiece
Good afternoon Gary. I don’t know about your current workload, but perhaps a longer stay in order to complete might be more efficient!🙂 Thank you for your new video, they are always instructive, entertaining and enjoyable. I’d be interested to hear your thoughts on modern cars that are not user serviceable?

lovely
Your definitely a good friend
This series has made me to get back to loving my 62 190SL! I bought it from the original owner in Raleigh, NC. It now "lives" 30 miles away"! Much respect, Gary! PS My Rolls Royce Corniche has consumed my time lately!
G,day Gary been watching all you vids and there is just one word to sum you up and that is Genuine with no bull shit attached .If ever you fancy a trip down under here in Perth Australia we got plenty of classics here and know rust.look forward to the next vid cheers Gazza and family
You are a true MECHANIC dealers are full of guys fitters now , they do not repair just fit off shelf parts. That's why they do not ware Overralls but have white shirts and ties .🥳
Cars on the common Harpenden...............Herts.
So...let's fly in a specialist from England...
what a job sir
Gary, Excellent work! Hopefully the bloke in LA has the green to pay for all this lovely work! I miss your Corniche uploads, and wondering if you replaced the gearshift lever?
@classic.obsession
8 ай бұрын
Hi Axel. No. I still haven’t got around to replacing it yet! It’s on the list. I’m doing the 190SL as an unpaid favour as I don’t work on other peoples cars as a rule. It’s one of those jobs that’s escalated but now I’ve started I have to see it through. I’ll do a nice double episode on the Corniche in a coupla weeks. Regards.
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Beautiful garage - hella noisy. Is that the freeway just out front?
How did you end up in LA doing this car Gary? Was it a working holiday? For an ex butcher you’re a great tradesman

Undoubtably great content for KZread Gary....but we all know that car will end up being in the same sorry state in another 5-6 years time.Thats life ...we all keep busy as we go along wiping other peoples arses.

No. As a favour. I don’t really work on other peoples cars but he’d had a series of different mechanics promising then disappearing. Probably when they’d calculated how much work was involved. I’ll go my best to see it through to the end. Another one saved as they say!! Regards.

Gary, what is the purple grease you used on the banjo bolts?
@classic.obsession
8 ай бұрын
On the carb seals? I normally use the blue gasket stuff here in the Uk but in the states I just couldn’t find it. I just used what I could get hold of really to give extra insurance on the seals. Regards.

Hi Gary@@classic.obsession i dont know about the Webbers but when fitting those gaskets with the metal sleeve inserts - it important to fit a wave washer so that you can't over tighten as the washer acts as a limiter. Without it the sleeve compresses on the alloy carbs wearing in a groove.
Why didn’t you clean the brake backing plates ???? Before fitting new cylinders ????
@classic.obsession
8 ай бұрын
Why? Because i don’t want Mesothelioma. Don’t worry, I’m planning to dry ice clean everything..
Completely staggered there's no heatshield of any sort on the exhaust with those carbs directly above. On even a slightly warm USA day, they're going to boil the fuel straight away, plus aging the starter, generator & wiring pretty quickly ! Excellent recommissioning otherwise!
Please come by my workshop and do your magic on my old Triumph GT 6 ;-)
Think, they made that ten years after war. Maybe it`s same as my age?
Do the airlines still do airmiles you could get to Benidorm with the your's
love your videos you show the mecanic and the work you do and it is just marvelous and relaxing, I hope one day do my self such projects. Thank you for sharing Big Hello from Luxembourg

Dry ice clean is better. If I wasn’t five thousand miles away from home with my garage and proper tools I’d be able to do a much better job. Regards.
It's my opinion, if you can't fix or maintain it yourself you shouldn't own it. A car like that isn't difficult to work on. Like a Harley isn't difficult. Or an old jaguar. This new stuff is all about swapping parts and computer mapping.
