Good job Gary , I owned a Silver Shadow for 19 years , did most of the work on it , watching your vids takes me down memory lane. Beautiful cars but they can turn your hair silver and make you a shadow of the person you used to be,hence silver shadow name.😉I am doing head gaskets and other things while im in the deep end on my XJS v12 convertible. My other Jag is an X150 , they say you need 2 Jags. One to use while the other is being repaired . . Love to see how your XJS is going. Look forward to your next vid .great stuff 🍻😉👍

Gary, as a 61 year old geezer, I need some inspiration to keep me going on my classic car maintenance. One can grow lazy and leave that job for the next day. However I am subscribed to your channel as is gives me the desire to keep going. I have a few Jaguar X300s, An Alfetta GTV and a Fiat 1200 Cabriolet. If Gary can do it, then what's the problem? Thanks so much for bringing me into your classic car world.

I love how you’re diligent with your cleaning Gary. Recently I saw a video of 2 cleaning technologies which really impressed me. One was dry ice cleaning of an old engine. Very thorough but lots of run off & the unit is big & cumbersome. Te other was a laser. Hand held, about the size of a clothes iron it seemed to evaporate everything but the metal leaving a pristine surface without any residue or run off to catch, clean up & dispose of. If I happen to locate these videos I’ll let you know. Cheers from Australia.🇦🇺

Hi again Gary from Sydney , Australia. We have a almost identical dry climate with just occasional rain here in Sydney , that's why it always horrifies me when I see so many ruined Euro classics because of road salt & rust. Re the big black Jag mk10 you filmed the Aussie distributor here in Australia in the 50's, '60's & '70's Jack Bryson who as a millionaire in the old days owned Brysons' Motors , exclusive Jaguar dealers, old Bryson had all the underbodies fully waxed, sprayed, then smothered in a bituminous rubber compound then painted it body color, it was so thick and tough that we get in an original Aussie Jag ZERO rust, none , underneath my 1967 mk10/420g it is almost like a "plating" to the underside, with a pressure wash the underside looks like new in 1967. I also have 2 Aussie built Cadillacs by GM Holden at their Pagewood, Sydney plant and again the weatherproof sealing is the said same bituminous/rubber compound that also becomes sound deadening. All the older Aussie made and distributed cars were finished this way, which adds to their long lives on the road. PS I love how you like giving all repaired items or areas a serious lick of paint, I'm the same with my thick satin finish black rattle cans when you look at it later it always looks lovely and new.

Great episode as usual Gary and great to see the work your putting into the Merc! Its interesting to see the over-engineering on the handbrake mechanism , I love this sort of thing compared to what we see manufacturers do today - I guess this is why these cars are still around long after their owners have gone ! Its remarkable to see the absence of rust when you when buzzing off the bulkhead and deck panel - its a different story when you tackle this in the UK ! Wonderful to see the car progressing and your common sense approach as usual . Keep up the great werk ! Cheers Stew

The best thing about Mercs is that the bolts/nuts _do_ unscrew & do ‘t shear off! Mind you, it took me a lot of rude words, sweat & three days to get the vibration damper disk off my 280E crankshaft. Three bolts, ok. The other two . . . Very friendly with their seatings. Allan key heads began to round off. One sacrificial torx fitting hammered in and it finally released. 😠😡🤬

Mr. Mavers is a well-known actor. He knows people like this and they know his work in the garage as well as onscreen. It's redundant for me to point out that this is a 'special vehicle' for its owner. Extra money is on hand so... But to your point: we have a very well-known Mercedes restoration specialist in our New England states. It would have been fine to ship the vehicle there for any level of restoration the owner desired.
