I think it's important to support as many selling platforms as possible. Without those other platforms, eBay, Amazon, and Walmart have no competition. List everywhere. Or eBay is going to become even more of a monopoly, and they won't rest until we are the ones making 20%.

The only issue I have is management of them all. Yes, List Perfectly helps, but even that can have issues. I will lightly test the waters more with Mercari.

@@goldenstatepicker I have the same issues. And I manually remove listings when something sells from the other platforms. I don't trust software to do it. I just don't want eBay turning into the only show in town, and charging us all whatever they please.

I know that the sellers are excited, but as buyers it’s a no go! Will be shopping at eBay, etc.. I am not paying a service fee for having the “privilege” of buying from the Mercari site.

I agree, Mike. This seems like a desperate move on Mercari's part. On paper, it looks like they are helping out the seller. However, they may just be setting the seller up to fail. If a buyer is unaware of this fee they are not going to be very happy when they go to purchase. How is this going to benefit the seller? Now sellers will be forced to lower the cost of their items just to account for the extra fee that the buyer will incur. And free returns on top. Perhaps Mercari could start by lowering the fees instead of just eliminating them & passing the buck to the buyer. Bad move. IMO.

I think it's a good ideal...

Plus buyer has to pay a "service fee" mostly 10% plus the payment processing fee 2..9% + 50cents

I was just talking to my friend about CRAZY LAMP LADY and how she is now doing niknak. I'm just fine where I'm at. I don't have enough time for them all. Whatnot has seemed to quite down a bit.

I have a store on Mercari, I only sell trading cards on that platform. And with this new policy, it is very good for me I think

I’ve never sold on Mercari, but now I might have to rethink using them. I think there are some size limits on the products you can post. I don’t like what you said about the return policy, so maybe I’ll keep the electronics in eBay.

Strange how things play out sometimes. It'll be interesting in the long run to see what kind of ripples this creates. I've seen average books skyrocket in value because someone sold it at an obsene rate and then the value mimics across all platforms for no reason at all. A good example is the book "To Drop a Dime", a rather pedestrian novel who's price now sits at over $1500.00 due to a bidding war that got out of hand. Perhaps if this move creates enough noise once the dust settles down, it creates a similar echo effect that tilts the scales across Amazon, Ebay, Pango, & Poshmark a bit more in the sellers favor. As they say, a rising tide lifts all boats.

Things are changing. Sellers are flat out important. If we leave they can have all the buyers they want and no one to sell. Won't happen, but you can see some of this already happening as eBay is dying on both ends Sellers/Buyers. They aren't growing.

I have been selling on both for years. List different stuff on each. It will be nice to keep all my money if buyers will still buy. Time will tell.

I has a buyer had to return 10lbs of what was listed as mostly vintage. 6 pounds was paparazzi and the rest what I would call not vintage. It took over a week to get a approval of the return. If you have good product you should not have any concerns. I just posted my few listings about a week ago and waiting it out to see what happens. I have had more views on Mercari than Ebay and Poshmark. So we will see.

Starting this year I started listing on Mercari. I didn't want to put everything on one basket. Plus I didn't like Ebay raising their fees. We'll see how it goes.

Hey Mike - you missed the flat fee for sellers to withdraw their balance ($2 flat fee). Is that even legal? I DO sell on Mercari, but not very much so it would take months to make it worth withdrawing funds. Also - regarding returns - do you know who pays shipping for those returns if they decide to go through with one?

Funny, so far it makes more sense than other platforms. So now it’s just you have to leave your money in your account longer. No big deal. Sales have improved, what I hate is the return policy. Return if you like it or don’t like it. Shouldn’t be a big deal but buyers remorse is a big deal. Changes make people crazy. Just go with the flow.

Mercari has been performing very well for me these past few weeks. I've sold there for years. I will be very open to accepting lower offers now more than ever on Mercari. I wish they had bulk listing updates so we could change pricing. Overall I'm happy with these changes.

It’s not desperation it’s strategic. eBay is killing us with fees and slowing our traffic every other day. And cross listing is sending business to Mercari and they see blood in the water because eBay is beyond a garbage platform in my opinion when it’s comes to how they treat sellers. @@goldenstatepicker eBay has 4 percent market share Mercari knows we are unhappy and cross listing. The issue with eBay is they enjoy gouging us with fees and limiting our sales all the time. Sellers are buyers and eBay forgot this fact. eBay is not Amazon and never will be. It’s a platform where someone can sell their stuff from their closet and buy something they want from the same platform. That’s what eBay is. I think Mercari is realizing this.

The one question that needs clarification is who is paying for the return shipping label? Mercari's announcement doesn't make that clear.

BAD IDEA by Mercari!!! So, if I the BUYER want to order something there is NO WAY to tell what all the EXTRA FEES will cost UNTIL such ITEM is ADDED TO CART ... SELLERS want to ADVERTISE a LOW PRICE only for BUYERS to see JACKED UP PRICES after all the EXTRA FEES are added!!! Can we say BAIT-N-SWITCH ... this reminds me of Las Vegas Strip hotels who ADVERTISE a LOW PRICE only to add on their dumb RESPORT FEES!! ENOUGH OF THE JUNK FEES!!!!

3 sales on mercari yesterday! Normally not very active.i was happy to lower prices and make sales.

I hardly sell anything on Mercari and when I say that I don't mean because I don't post. I do. And only every once in a while do I get a sale. They are very cheap and seem to want things for nothing. Yet I've heard of others saying it works great for them. Any tips on how to boost sales. Is it like eBay where the more you do the more they reward you. They need to improve their platform. The tools and pictures are horrible...especially pictures. Not enough room! Any thoughts.

They are just trying to pirate sellers from Ebay and elsewhere and then do the one two switcharoo....then change the fees back.

This really is screwing over the buyers. I know I started going to eBay because of this

It is not a great move for the sellers or the buyers. I just made an offer of $3.75 on an item just so I could review it and see what the total cost would be...total was 14.00. Imagine when an item is 25.00+ , Buyers are not stupid and will take their shopping elsewhere to avoid those costs. So for the sellers, No Customers=NO MONEY.

No fees on a bad platform that has double digit views on items vs ebay who has millions of views daily with fees. Plus the buyer has to pay your fees on top of taxes and shipping. Its the beginning of the end for Mercari.

I think like you, but am willing to give it a shot on some items to see just what might happen.

I can tell you it wasn't a bold move it's just that it's more apparent now. Essentially, the new change does nothing but shift the burden from seller to purchaser. The calculation shall be as before, minus 50 cents, for 2.9% of the total sale. This differs from the additional service fee already paid by consumers Four fees that the buyers have to pay if the seller is charging shipping. The other thing to take notice is even with the zero selling fees, sellers have actual raised there prices and then you hear them complaining about in a video or in the comments saying they are not getting enough traffic lol.

I think the extra charge that buyers will pay won't matter too much to them on low-dollar items, but this move might kill high-dollar sales.

That's not a big deal. Because it ain't charging selling fees in the long run you be saving money if you don't. Withdraw your money after every little sale. they just want you to keep your money in longer for they can invest it in the market. That how banks Keep their business running

I already do free returns no questions asked on eBay. The 3 day window on returns is awesome. eBay just doesn't care about their sellers. I work with consignment shops too. The good consignment shops know no sellers = no sales. The problems with consignment shops, they pick the price, and they get 50% of the sale. Occasionally, they really screw up (low) on price. But they take my overflow (stuff I don't want to sell, not worth the effort). Traditional in person auctions have had buyer premiums for decades, 10% is not unusual. So let's see how it goes. Tempting to take some of my old stuff and test out Mecari. eBay for me has gotten dreadfully SLOW. Been selling on ebay for over 24 years, I've never seen it this bad.

Seller sent me an offer, I accepted it and then 3 different fees were tacked onto the price. I asked the seller what that was all about. Mercari big brother sent me a warning about making an inquiry that violated their rules. That violated my rules, closed my account, uninstalled the app and never looked back.

I'm not sure how Mercari works on the BUYER end. They should notify buyers about who pays the fees. I only sell a few things on their platform. Thanks for watching.

I am sure we'll lose buyers or have to lower prices to make up for the buyer's fees. I don't list much on Mercari because I don't get much action over there, but now with free returns, I will not list things like clothing or media either. They had no selling fees years ago, then went to the 10%, then waited and added the payment processing fee, then the transaction fee. Now zero fees for sellers and shove them onto the buyers? Buyers will be made and will want even more discounts. These are not the buyers like the people shopping online auctions who pay the buyer's premium fee. These are Mercari, (already cheap) buyers.
