MEPS Pulling Pharmacy Records?!? (2021) | This Changes A Lot!

Today we are going to be talking about a topic I have been getting asked about a lot recently and that is if MEPS is going to be pulling Pharmacy records now! Obviously this is a huge deal considering not everyone who joins discloses all of their medical history, but now with this new system of doing things it could definitely cause some bumps in the road of many recruits enlistment process!

Depression is unfortunately a mental disorder. I had depression for 10 years. It was terrible. I could not get out of bed. I could not feel happy. I could not enjoy life. But I took matters into my own hands and I started psilocybin therapy. After 10 minutes of ingesting psilocybin. 10 minutes, yes. Yes. Yes. 600 seconds. You read that right. My desperation of 10 YEARS went into remission. It was incredible and still months later (I have to micro dose every now and then) I am depression FREE. I don’t take any medication for depression or anxiety. God is good. You can do this, you got this, you can get there, believe in yourself the way I believe in you. ❤

I passed MEPS a couple of days ago and got sworn in. But one of the girls I went in with got disqualified because she once got prescribed an inhaler but she never had asthma. The reason she had an inhaler was because her house had mold but the doctors at MEPS saw the word “inhaler” and immediately disqualified her without even hearing her story. She’s currently in the process of fighting it/getting a waiver but just a heads up for anyone with a similar story, just keep fighting it. One of the nicer staff at MEPS told her just to keep fighting it because she’s never had asthma and her reason is totally understandable. If you truly want something, keep fighting them no matter how high in power they are. You know you’re healthy and you fight for that.

This process has been so frustrating for me. I had a doctor prescribe me an inhaler due to me asking for a gym waiver during covid. I am a military spouse so during the height of covid the gyms were only for the soldiers/sailors in Naples Italy. Well, a few spouses were getting gym waivers so I figured I would try. Turns out, they were favoring the officer wives over the enlisted so when I tried they only suggested an inhaler. I refused it and they still put in the prescription! I never used the inhaler and they see in my record that it's been two years and I never activated any refills. Now this is looming over my head. I have taking a pulmonary functions test, blood test, and seen countless doctors. My husband had been in 13 years and this has always been something I wanted to do but life has just gotten in the way. I met my husband while we were both trying to join but I was having issues then because I was told I was under weight but I ate enough for 6 people lol. So I chose to stay in college. I guess we'll see how this goes because I really want to join.

For everybody that this concerns, yes. It is very real and I got nailed by it a little bit ago. My process got delayed due to a prescription I received for abscess of tonsils. However this in particular wasn't concerning for me. They are looking for prescriptions for ADD, ADHD, depression, and anxiety. Primarily. If you have other pharmacy records that were given to you within the last 7 years, be aware that it will show up and if it's not related to anything I just mentioned, it's likely going to be a delay is all, like it was for me. All in all, this here video from Ben should tell you most of what you need to know, so give it a real thorough watch. Good luck to everyone on their military journeys.

Also, if the pharmacy holds no records since most only document customer dosages 2 years after, how do they expect folks to provide these documents to MEPS? Any advice helps. Seems complicated for them to pull this off... I’ve lived in several different places, gone to several different pharmacies. Are they inquiring the pharmacy directly for the records? As far as I know there wouldn’t be a centralized database for this across all pharmacies... and how long are those records even kept by them? Or would this be inquiring your medical insurance company? Because again, people change those too! Overall.. I have a lot of questions about how feasible this really is.

But last month I got a full time job with health benefits, so I decided I would get a prescription for adderall to help with overall retention at work because it’s boring work and my mind wonders. But how I got the meds was through an app that gives you an evaluation via zoom and then they send the prescription to your pharmacy. So there are 3 parties that have this info right? It would be the app I did the evaluation through, medical insurance and the pharmacy. Could I just pretend like never got a full time job, therefor not having medical insurance? Or could i put down my college that provided medical insurance? That way when they check my records they would only get my passed records previous to this year. if it’s not the insurance they contact maybe I just won’t disclose the company that I received the prescription from?

This was back in 2021.. I tried hoping last April and they were able to bring this up on the medical record along with me in middle school having taking another test due to me fainting and hitting my head. Again nothing ever came of it but it raises the air forces eyebrows so I've been jumping through hoops trying to prove myself and that I'm okay. I'm perfectly healthy. But the SG first told me to wait 3 years as well to reapply... but I just got a letter where he's adding an additional 14 months to it to "be on the safe side". My problem is I've already been waiting a year! I want to be in and start my life! Do you think there is anything I can do to try to resubmit earlier or get him to reconsider? My blood pressure was a little high so the CMO(Chief Medical Officer) at MEPS went on to the Genesis system and pulled up all my medical records and prescriptions. All of the prescriptions that I had were given to me while I was on active duty which she saw and acknowledged. But now i have to get medically cleared by a doctor for High blood pressure, and Insomnia just because I was prescribed these medicines lol. The funny thing is I was already in the military so with these issues so now I have to get cleared just to come back in. Just a hassle tbh

@streetx1602 yep. They never saw my prescriptions for inhalers when I was younger lol. Been in almost 10 months now. Good luck, reception was rough for me but just keep motivated and remember why you're there. You will be fine, just for me at least it was a pretty shocking transition from being a civilian. I could easily go back through reception now having been in for a little while, but at the time it was a little spooky. Everyone next to you is going through the same thing as you, and every step further you go it gets better. Basic is much better than reception in my opinion (you will get smoked at the beginning but it really does build character lol) and ait is way better than basic. Just finished airborne school and it was fun. It goes by kind of slow in the moment, but looking back it all went very fast Just a tip for reception, do what you can to break in your new boots in the bay at night. The end of my bunk had a bar that I could kind of see saw the boot over and it broke it in a little bit better. At first wearing the boots all day in formation made my ankles visibly swell and it was pretty uncomfortable. Like everyone says, the Army is what you make of it and your attitude is very important

I would’ve been good if I joined before December but was still figuring out if I wanted to go to college and was still high school. It is now November 5 months after first MEPS visit. Waiting for THE Surgeon General to approve for the SECOND time my waiver… he’s been asking me for school letters, work letters, school transcripts, parent letters, all previous prescription records from the past 5 years (he originally asked for 3 the first time) Don’t lie now guys Get notes from everyone you know basically talking about how you can work well off medication, the last time you used medication, get notes from your doctor, parents, bosses

when you play honest with the system it just fucks with you, best not to tell them and suck it up. I came in with undisclosed ADHD and believe me you're not special, every else fucks up in basic. You have to have to maintain confidence in yourself and never give up (cliché but true) . After the 2nd week you will naturally get used to it and everything will seem routine, then it progressively become a matter of doing what your told and watching the time pass until graduation.

Somebody broke the code. So mhs genesis pulls from every state Health Information Exchange(HIE). So pretty much most hospitals and pharmacy send their medical information to a exchange database that is meant to make it easier for hospitals, doctors, providers , pharmacies to send records and prescriptions electronically without delays to better serve patients no matter where they are in the country. The military tapped into this and used the infrastructure to audit records. For example, some pharmacies send data to sure scripts in which they send to the health information exchange. Google health information exchange and you will see the rabbit hole

What’s probably going to end up happening is as long as it wasn’t any strong medication and you aren’t showing signs of asthma at the station, they’ll probably just disregard the information on record. So long as you’re good now, no asthma, ADHD, and no signs of bad anxiety or depression, with no physical red flags, you’ll probably get through without issue.

I'm going through the process now brother, though I'm going through the US Army. I wouldn't worry about it too much, just make sure you have the records and the recruiter knows about it. Also, it depends on how long ago 6th grade was for you. If it was over 7 years ago, it won't matter because that's far back as they look. If you're 18 and heading right into the Marines, then it probably will come up. Again, just make sure your recruiter knows and they should be able to help you. @Anthony Kight The military will never achieve it's recruiting goals with this new system in place. Either 90% of people joining will need a waiver or they just won't be able join at all. Seeing as the majority of youth in this country have been prescribed at least some form of medication. Hopefully they will come to their senses and realize if they want to recruit and retain people that MROAD has to go.

Now I really want to serve but I can’t sit on my ass for two to three more years waiting for a possible chance to get in with a waiver.

I don't see the point to that unless they suspect your doing illegal drgs but at that point it won't be in your pharmacy records. Maybe to make sure your prescribed the medicine you claim your taking? But really since opiates & such are not really seen as being taken like that on a monthly basis so that doesn't make sense either. It seems more like they just want your medical records, if that is the case. Especially since you can get a drg waiver anyway.

Google health information exchange and you will see the rabbit hole. Btw, there is a form that you sign during enlisting process that gives military branch to pull your medical records so you can't proceed without signing that form. The only way would to have your medical data deleted , but that might cause more flags

Definitely gonna lead to MUCH smaller enlistment numbers. I feel like it could be good in determining whether or not a person might be prone to certain issues down the line if let's say for example... a person was on a prescription to help ease symptoms of IBS 6 months prior to enlisting and never mentioned ever dealing with them at MEPS. They could easily enlist, have a sudden spike in those issues, and blame the military for those health problems even though they experienced them prior to enlistment. If they're extreme symptoms for IBS, that's a guaranteed 30% disability, especially if the military can't prove that it wasn't service connected, roughly 10% if mild.

Yes some of them are. I got disqualified for the equivalent of an extra strength advil. It’s completely nuts. However they only have access to about 70% of medical records so just pray your part of the 30%. It seems more rural, independent doctors and pharmacies aren’t linked up with the big government medical spying system yet, it’s mostly hospital chains and offices and bigger cities that use industry EHR solutions.
