My maternal grandma and I cooked and baked together. She taught me many Norwegian and Swedish recipes. Also making homemade noodles with my mom. I canned with my fraternal grandmother who was German and French Canadian. They are long gone and I miss them dearly. I am eternally grateful for all they taught me and the memories we created together! 💯❣️

I passed along your video to my best friend. My favorite part of all of your homemade recipes is that you have a base core of something, then you wing it. Perfect. We trust your families opinion and they love your soups, breads and everything else. Being a prior Mennonite, you bring your knowledge to the viewer and we trust your old, tried and true methods. Thank you for all you do, Ruth Ann.

It’s so interesting to me that we do so many things the same way. My father was born in 1902 and he taught me to cook. He was a wonderful cook who always wanted his own restaurant. But we were poor. So I learned the ‘old’ ways. Probably a lot like your grandma taught you. I dry my noodles on hangers just like you do! He taught me to cook everything from scratch. I do buy flour, butter, milk and eggs because I have to but we hunt and fish and I have two large gardens to tend so I am able to put up as much food for my husband and I as I can. All my adult kids want my recipes but I have to tell them they aren’t written down. I should have insisted they learn, like you, but I didn’t. You are incredible to handle all that you do. I really enjoy listening to you and learning more about you and your family and of course, food! Thank you so much for making these great videos! PS- I hate wearing shoes outside and I loved seeing the bunny in your kitchen! My sister had a bunny in the house when we were kids :)

Write those recipes down now! They will be useful to your future generations. Use words like “give or take” if you need to. I have no children and I’m old now. This girl is so fun to watch. She is what I wanted to be in my youth. Sigh. But God has been good to me. I am inspired to get off the couch and keep trying to homestead in my own small way.

Yes, I am old as well solosaloon1959 and I have made up a couple family cook books for all the kids. I’ve taught young women (not family) how to bake bread, how to can, how to quilt, I even taught a young woman how to bake a chicken. Her mother didn’t cook and so she never learned and was afraid to try. One time we had friends over and the husband was dumbfounded that I knew how to cut up a chicken. I still wash out every soup jar with water to get the last bits out. That’s why this KZread channel is so important. To think someone called her ‘uneducated’ got it all wrong. She is a teacher. The most treasured of people.

My parents grew up in a mennonite community here in Canada. Our chicken noodle soup is quite different. The broth is simmered with star anise, pepper corns and bay leaf and that is it, no veggies. And then our noodles were always hand cut after rolling the dough up jelly roll fashion. We covered the rolled out dough with flour to prevent sticking before rolling and cutting, and then shook out the flour with a sieve. Big job but I still do it and love it. Thanks for sharing your version!

Now that I am retired I have more time to cook from scratch. I'm so blessed to have my husband retired as well. We sure do get a bigger bounty in our garden with his help!. 2 of 15 grandchildren live with us, so I have extra hands to help me weed or get eggs while I gathering vegetables. My family prefers to wait until now, after the weather has cooled, to eat soups. We hail from Scotland. Eastern European mainly. I love cooking comfort foods on Fridays. Specifically, Fridays since the kiddos have most of theìr test at school on that day. What a wonderful way to start our weekends! I really believe it matters to "sprinkle" God's loves into your meals. I pray as I cook. It calms me, and the rest of my family, as they eat and enjoy the Lord's blessings. God bless you all in your endeavors. ~Robin

Also hanging clothes on the !ine, I ran my mom teaching me to hang the laundry out on the line, how to wipe off the whole line before putting your clean clothes on it, my favor smell was bedding that was hung out to dry. Best sleep ever.

Even using your cheese grater for the pasta is quick and easy. The could be spread out and dried a little first before putting in soup.( if it would work) plus those retractable washing lines with four strings would be perfect for drying pasta, sold on Amazon. I can pint jars with half onions and half carrots for a quick soup mix, just two of us.

I hadn't made homemade pasta for years and I followed your instructions and made a huge batch of turkey noodle (Thanksgiving leftover) soup, and it was loved by all, even my picky grandkids! It was delicious! Thank you so much!!

I really appreciate that you showed this process without a machine. I want to eventually try making pasta but don’t have a machine. I bought some Amish pasta a couple weeks ago: and it was amazing! There is no comparison to store bought noodles. I learn so much from your channel! Thank you so much!!!

The idea of adding the frozen corn to the left overs to cool it down without watering it down and add volume & flavor is genius! Thank you for the noodle making instruction. My husband has wanted me to make homemade noodles for years and even bought me a noodle press/cutting machine. I'm now inspired to actually try it. Now to find some counter space in my small kitchen, lol.

Chicken corn soup is our family favorite too. It’s also a soup that I’ve taken to families who have either been ill or when a family member or loved one has passed away. I’ve been told it’s brought comfort to family members as they’re grieving the loss of a loved one. One family said it was like a warm hug. Thanks for sharing your noodle recipe. I’ve only made pasta once and We loved it. I’ll have to add it to my soup regime. Thanks for sharing.
