Homesteading with the Zimmermans

Homesteading with the Zimmermans

Welcome new subscribers!!! We are a Northern Iowa, ex-Mennonite Family, living on 22 acres. We started this channel as a way to preserve the homesteading way of life for future generations. A place for our children to find the information they need, should the need arise, or they choose the homesteading lifestyle for themselves !
Most of what we know about homesteading has been learned from farming and gardening with our Mennonite parents and grandparents from as early as we can remember, everything else has been learned by asking others for advice or watching videos just like this!!
We strive to raise our meat and vegetables as naturally as possible and only intervene with when absolutely necessary!
We are so glad you are here!

I bet you could start a quilting bee or something similar or a book club in your new Community if it’s not there now! Other ladies would probably welcome it ❤

An actual "relationship" with others isn't the primary way to share the gospel. That's not biblical❤️ The gospel can be shared without having relationships with others. You lovingly share the gospel and then they can decide if they want to receive or reject❤️no relationship needed.

Ruth Ann I am friends with a family of 9 children. The mom had all 9 by c-section. She passed on to heaven a couple years ago at 93. Thanks for your back story of conversion and faith in Christ our Saviour. God bless you richly. I admire you and Elvin for keeping the good things from the Mennonite life.

I am in Johnstown,Pa and we don’t call them whoppie pies we call them gobs and I was brought up making a cooked filling with flour. The filling has a pudding consistency and is not over sweet like those made with powdered sugar.

What a beautiful family you have. God has truly blessed you. We have to keep our chickens and ducks in an electric fence pen. Our neighbor has big Rottweilers and they used to come in our yard. Once they free range all over, they don’t like staying inside a big fence.

The more I see your videos the more I feel God in your life and family. I love that the Lord uses you to bridge multiple families. Not only the biological families of your children, but also the families of those who watch your videos. May GOD continue to bless and use you.

Ruthann, thank you for sharing your ways of doing things, along with your gracious attitude about each person must decide what is right for them and their own family. I know that I am less willing than you are to take a few risks with food preservation because my family includes people with compromised immune systems - a cancer survivor and two people with diabetes. They might not survive consumption of even slightly spoiled food, so I need to be extra careful when I can! I do some things the same as you and some differently. I do re-use jars and lids, as you do, after careful inspection. Unlike you, I water bath for the full recommended period of time, even though shorter times might be OK for most people. And I add acid (lemon juice) to my tomatoes. I appreciate that your situation is different from mine, and I am glad that each of us has the freedom to do what we understand as being right for us. Thank you for your generosity in sharing your life and skills!
