#7 Makin - better corkscrew than the one Dessouky performed, and even better since the last player you would expect to play that kind of shot in the tour is Makin #10 Ibrahim - very fast and very deceptive, from a retrieving position

ElShorbagy's was a volley, so it gets the win in my book.

1. Dessouky - difficult ++ and great shot ++ but not under any real pressure - - 8/10 2. Elias - flat roller +++ and big scoreboard pressure ++ but a cross court nick that we see a lot - 9/10 3. Shorbagy - difficult ++ and great shot ++ not much pressure - 8.5/10 4. Farag - difficult from that high ++ and good shot + but no real pressure at 4-10 down - and a cross court nick that we see a lot - 7.5/10 5. Willstrop - great length shot ++ but not much pressure - and signature shot that we see a lot - 7/10 6. Shorbagy - extremely difficult, intenitonally (?) played with the frame +++ decent shot but not always a winner -/+ - 9/10 7. Makin - same as Dessouky but potentially better as Asal still failed trying the back wall jam return 8/10 8. Asal - great shot due to the extreme pace ++ and big scoreboard pressure ++ but a cross court nick that we see a lot - 8.5/10 9. Rodriguez - same as Shorbagy but the ball was not quite as tight and the shot was much easier to play on the bounce 7.5/10 10. Ibrahim - phenomenal deception ++ but not too much pressure - and the shot quality alone was not the best - 7/10 It's either 2 or 6 for me. We see cross court "nicks" a lot but Elias hits a true roller and on 13-13 in the first there's huge pressure on Elias because he doesn't have the fitness some of the other top players have. Then the way Shorbagy plays his shot is truly phenomenal. He knows he has to volley it given the slow pace but it's too tight to volley cleanly; in my opinion he deliberately played for the frame and it turned out as well as he could have hoped for. Overall the standard is truly remarkable. Modern players are continuing to push boundaries, particularly in explosive movement, and the result is that shots like these simply have to be played regularly to win points.
