www.youtube.com/@Orthotropics/videos I hope this link works but this is Mr. Mew. He is who popularized "Mewing" and he has research about it. I found out about it many years ago. But check him out and come to your own conclusion. It used to be considered just tongue suction/placement which babies needed to learn so they didn't suck on their thumbs or binkies as they got older. Also breathing through your nose and out your mouth is the right way to breath which is often taught to children in Physical Ed class during school. Your jaw can drop(causing the "unattractive" jawline) if you consistently have your mouth open (mouth breathing) and tongue resting at the bottom of your mouth (aka not mewing).

I have mixed feelings about this topic. I’m a guy that grew up an overweight nerdy kid that dealt with bullying and rejections. During my teenage years I started working out religiously and packed on alot of muscles as well as grew to 6’2. The difference in how people (especially women but men as well) treated me was insane - all your character quirks that previously deemed as flaws suddenly became positive traits. Lame jokes are now funny, shyness became mysteriousness, what used to be creepy is now endearing, nerdy interests and hobbies became interesting and refreshing. It’s enough to change your entire view on people and caused a ton of cognitive dissonance for me in the beginning. And before people tell me that it might just be a change in my attitutude and confidence and not the physical transformation, I would say that I partially agree, but it’s really a chicken-egg problem. When you are attractive, you are inundated in positive reinforcements in all things you do - people root for you to win, prop you up when you lose, assume the best regarding all your actions, greet you with open body language, and actively go outta their way to help you out. And I don’t even think it’s a social media thing as a I came of age at the start of social media; it’s really just a human thing which I find myself doing as well despite having seen both sides. And my experience isn’t uncommon at all. Many people that has experienced weight loss or had a significant glow up can corroborate this. Social media may have exposed and exacerbated the lookism phenomenon, but it’s nothing new and ultimately just a part of the human condition.

@@sjejsj7615 Specifically the part I have mixed feelings about is when topic presenters say things like “confidence comes from within and that’s true attractiveness” or things along those lines. In my opinion it is both oligatory but also trite. Confidence doesn’t happen in a vaccum, and the difficulty level for cultivating confidence is often inextricably linked to looks and the direction of the reinforcement you get in the feedback loop. A naunced take IMO needs to acknowledge this. The reality is unattractive people that act confident is often not well-recieved unless you are so exceptional at something that grants alot of status. People expect you to know your place so to speak, and deviation from that often results in people attempting to put you back into your place. In fact I would say I was pretty irrationally confident even when I was an overweight kid, which was what led to the bullying.

It’s honestly insane. Like some people hear the phrase ‘toxic masculinity’ and roll their eyes but like no, it affects young boys just as much as it affects girls. The boys being recruited into this weird manosphere cult were probably insecure and misguided by the cancer that is social media int he 21st century. It’s not an excuse for their behaviour, but it is the source of a lot of modern misogyny that needs to be rooted out immediately.

@@Bruhl-cb9wy They are being radicalized in a way. They were already raised with certain beliefs, that's true, and the manosphere confirms those beliefs but also pushes more extreme versions of those beliefs. It makes them hate everyone. Instead of being a support network for men it actually pits men against each other, making them see other men as either competition (and not friendly competition), or someone they look up to ("chad", but they hate chad and resent chad's success), an any other guy is basically irrelevant. They don't build each other up, they tear each other down. It's also an echo chamber with hatred/disdain/disgust towards women. They push the idea to see women as subhuman. There's also a belief in "bio essentialism" in the manosphere, but in their view men are capable of rising above their base instincts whilst women are not. They use this to justify the view of women as sub human, incapable of introspection and rational thought, and therefore should have never been granted autonomy of any kind. The manosphere is a horrible community that doesn't actually help anyone except for the guys making money from it. It's very predatory towards boys and young men. Supportive and healthy male spaces exist (outside of the manosphere of course), but there aren't enough of them and they don't have as much popularity as the manosphere. Our societies are the reason for that. It still looks down on men giving each other emotional support and sees it as weak.

Did you just compare mewing which is literally recommended by orthodontists all around the world to putting your lips in shot glasses and risking traumatizing your lips by scars and swelling? Please educate yourself about mewing before spreading things like this. It’s literally something most people should do naturally. Mouth breathing is bad for your health and jaw development. Having a well developed jaw is a sign of chewing healthy, solid food while young, also good teeh and dental care. It all has a link and many people mew naturally because it basically just means having the right tongue position in your mouth. I don’t see why some of you see this technique as something extreme.

This is why I have so much respect for people who achieve self-acceptance. We let opinions that are shaped on a stupid, human-created scale affect our own self-worth. But when those opinions can affect the opportunities we get in life, they feel as if they're real. I've struggled with my own worth and happiness since childhood, and I still haven't figured it out yet. All I know is to do the right things as I know them to be, and to try to stop giving a shit about what anyone else may judge me for. People who maintain lasting self-acceptance without any need for outside validation are so impressive to me

No it's true that bones grow from micro fractures, it's done in a lot of martial arts like karate for the knuckles and muay Thai for the shins, this is where the idea of doing it on facial bones came from. However you really have to abuse the bone and it's only a tiny amount of growth over time, somewhat similar to working out in that muscles are damaged provide a stimulus to grow back stronger. However to attempt such a thing on bones as fragile as the jaw would only destroy your face as you would have to cause a lot of trauma to the bone to encourage any major growth and it's imposed to do it in any measurably aesthetic way, it would only leave the facial bones all misshapen

The problem is the demands of women. For women to say that a guy is attractive, he has to be almost perfect (0.1% of the population). On the other hand, for men, a normal woman or one who has one or another attractive feature is already considered attractive. Women have a much lower bar than men. I suppose it is something natural but it is still the root of this problem.

As far as I know, mewing was originally developed as an alternative to orthodontics treatment by Dr. Mew. Pressing your tongue against the top of your palate was working as an expander, preventing crowded teeth (that was just a part of that technique). But I believe it was intended primary for children, where the facial bone structure is still developing. Not sure what he's up to now or how he's feeling about this trend ..

  • @limitlesslizzie

    @limitlesslizzie

Yeah you're exactly right. Mewing was meant to prevent mouth breathing and help CHILDREN develop a properly shaped jaw so they dont get overbite/underbite, literally not helpful for grown adults imo

  • @verica4b

  • @ashtixs9796

@@limitlesslizzie it does help adults because it is just the placement and suction of the tongue. Maybe depending on the person not CRAZY results but it does help focus breathing through the nose which is the technical right way to breath because nose hairs to filter the air for one. And for many people it can definitely change their jaw because consistently having your mouth open(mouth breathing) can cause a drooping jaw and having your tongue rest at the bottom of your mouth can cause the skin under your chin area ( I believe its called Jowls I could be incorrect) to loosen more as you get older. feel free to correct me about anything but that's what I know of. ALSO babies are supposed to learn to "mew"/ suction their tongue to the roof of their mouth so they don't such on their thumb or binkies as they get older.

don't stop. it's the proper tongue posture. a lot of people who don't naturally mew usually have allergies or other medical issues when growing up that makes them have congested nose and breathe through their mouth. breathing through your mouth doesn't only change your bone structure, it also reduces the amount of oxygen you breathe. the air you breathe doesn't get filtered through the nose. mewing when you're already an adult however doesn't really work. that's where the controversies come from

Ugly is subjective as is pretty, gorgeous & beautiful. You can be ugly on the outside & have a beautiful soul/ personality on the inside. By the same token you can be pretty ect on the outside & be the ugliest person on the inside. Regardless what a person looks like on outside what's on the inside of a person will always rise & make it's self known. No amount of maxing, mewing, filters, make-up, skincare ect will ever be able to take the place of what type of person someone is on the inside. Looks/ appearances fade, fads die out but but a persons character & how one treats themselves & others is what remains.

first time i heard the word mogging, but i guess it's always been around since photography was a thing. Taking pictures should be an enjoyable thing, but I feel it stresses out a lot of people. We all have our bad hair days and bad angles, but sometimes we just have to forget about these flesh bags we live in and take a picture just for the sake of commemorating the fun moment, not for the sake of posting it on social media. It makes me smile when I realize I had the goofiest smile in a particular group pic. It might not be a flattering look, but the pure joy captured in the moment is also a form of beauty and it's the superior kind. These are the kind of pictures you look back at years later to remember the good times.

Guy here who works with hundreds of dentists. Mewing is actually quite interesting. Due to not straining our jaws as much as previous generations (processed foods are often easy to chew), we have smaller jaws and our wisdom teeth have issues joining the other teeth. Mewing before the age of 25 has positive effects since the bones are still growing and solidifying. Breathing by the mouth is also a grave problem and intentionally breathing by the nose helps the jaw better develop. I am not a looksmaxer and am traditionally handsome while dating a girl with whome I will spend my life. But, I do support having healthy habits and mewing specifically to counteract our lack of needing to tear food with our teeth to strengthen our jaws. (I also did these things alone without knowing there was a community)

Like what one dude said in comment the societal aspect of putting people on their place for not having certain aspects worthy of societal approval is often quite contradictory to the belief of building of self confidence within oneself, how can you build self confidence when you are looked down for being poor, not good looking or a certain height or weight. Even if the society tries to convince oneself that you do not require that, they will do it to the aspect where they will make them delusional enough to not care which also ends in negative consequences such as so called body positivity. I believe society must make people believe enough in themselves get the best they can get in any aspect be it money, looks or status. But make the people self aware enough to see which aspect they can change in a positive manner. However we should also regard their personal preferences in how they want to live their lives and yet also correct them if they are harming themselves in any manner. As an individual one must not feel entitled to have their flaws and yea I believe self acceptance is good for a person, but also try to change changeable aspect of them for good of oneself. The criticism mustn’t be harsh or forced and also the criticism taken shouldn’t be in a harsh manner. I would like to yall to to approve it and even criticise my opinion and I will try to clearing your doubts and will also try to accept your criticism which i deem to be true.

i've been keeping this inside me. i don't want to tell my girls about this too. my mom indirectly called me ugly because I cut my hair short and my skin's been breaking out for over a year now. she said I'm using too much product and she said I won't find a job in the future because of how I look (I'm 21). this is just so awful because I felt insecure upon looking at myself with uneven skin tone because of sunburn, bad skin due to break out, and my hair that flys away :

u can open the intermaxillary suture and it is used in orthodontics but it will get u no where if u put unmeasured forces on ur bones as a grown up. it needs time and growth so if u don't seek professional help when u are still growing it will get u no where.

Well, i only have one of the two: prettyboy or masculine. If those give me results then great. Dating is a competition in the most biologically primal urge of reproduction, so I use it as a framework to optimize what I need to get what I want.

This video explains to me something that I've been doing for years unconsciously (mewing) but rather because I want to change something (I don't) it's just because I don't have much space in my mouth and my tongue automatically goes up. that was fun to learn.

Never heard of this term before, then again, I'm not really "hip" when it comes to the fashion and beauty culture nowadays(idk if that's good or bad for a 25yr old). I don't believe that this is a bad thing, just like with anything, as long as done healthily and naturally. There are extremist in every group that give the group the negative stereotypes('a few bad apples tend to make the tree rotten', is wheat people believe). I feel as though i need a degree, just to keep up with the lastest "beauty" trends and terminology!!

I’m Asian, we naturally look more feminine, I was very nerdy in middle and highschool, I had a lot of acne and wore glasses. After junior year of highschool I started to care more about myself and started to use skin care, hair products to give my hair more volume, and started to worry more about my appearance. The first “sign “I was attractive was I’d get comments from older women calling me “handsome.” And my brother would always tell me “who do you think you are? You’re not good looking.” That killed my confidence, especially from a family member it hits harder. So I went back to the nerdy Asian dude. I stopped caring about my appearence and stopped taking care of myself.

Care about yourself dude, don't listen to people who would try to drag you down for taking care of yourself. If you have the potential to be a handsome guy then why let it go to waste? Imagine if someone told you to stop brushing your teeth and just let them rot, you'd think that was crazy right?

Tongue position is important in puberty when the body is still growing. If adults do mewing, that probably won't alter their looks. Honestly, I thought about surgery because I have been breathing through my mouth for years, now I cannot fully close it, my breathing through nose is more difficult, and I definitely have a receding jawline, which means less space for the tongue and thus problems with teeth positions, so I need braces. But surgery of this type is hazardous and expensive, and I probably won't do it, unless my dentists won't suggest it.
