I would like to add that Jess has been “marketing” JoJo for much longer than that. Jess predestined her daughter to stardom since the day she found out of her pregnancy with JoJo, and went above and beyond from dying her hair to dragging themselves to auditions to commercials and competitions. All of that said, it was all at the expense of JoJo’s self discovery, hence, the most chaotic child star rebrand of all time.

This. Like I get it she wants to keep the big follower number, but she really should have made a new account and completely seperated those two "eras". As an ex child star you have some amount of responsibility to make sure that you don't end up exposing children to inappropriate things, yet here she is. She's setting such a poor example and it's sad to imagine what some kids might think after witnessing all of this if even I, an adult, feel grossed out by it.

Even though the re-brand is hideous, I feel sad for her. If everyone would really know what happens in Hollywood with people, they would see where Jojo’s trauma comes from. Plus, she was under constant control, discouragement, and pressure not only from her mom but others. It makes sense why she is struggling to define herself. She could’ve done a great rebranding with the right guidance and true identity. Instead of dissing her and making fun, people could’ve been a lil nicer. It doesn’t make you better when you judge others or make fun of them on the internet.

It was hated but it wasn't a career fail, she even won the VMAs that year and all eyes were on her. Miley was an established singer and the song actually was catchy with really good vocals, she put out something good with crazy shock value and it worked. Miley's being a famous Disney kid does mean that with or without the existence of that era she still could've had this success, but wrecking ball never ruined it

I think there was a missed opportunity to shift that would’ve allowed her to be herself AND connect with gen Z adults. I feel like Gen Z is changing how we view adulthood already since in the past we’d been fed this narrative that stuffed animals, cartoons and enjoying things that are traditionally seen as “childish” makes you immature. In actuality your interests don’t necessarily define how mature you are. You can enjoy animation and get your shit together. If hypothetically I was in charge of this brand change I’d probably mix some classic jojo aesthetic with more casual adult outfits. Focus on comfort and giving the sense of a pillar of self stability whilst embracing authenticity. I just hope those dance kids she hurt get what they despite jojo distracted everyone from it.

(accidental semi rant) jojo’s idea of “adult” behavior, especially sex, feels like how a preteen would imagine or act out being an adult. its really uncomfortable to watch because it feels like shes not actually a sexual person and she’s pushing herself to be as over the top with it as possible. she also needs to realize when the right time and place is. yes other people have done adult stuff at non-18+ venues, even tho a lot of them should, but damn she just does it so wrong it feels gross to watch. very sexual performances can be awesome but if its done wrong it just feels icky

i feel like the rebrand could’ve been salvageable if they didn’t include inappropriate behaviour (like jojo thrusting-) . they could’ve just labelled it being jojo doesn’t do rainbows anymore and is the “cool girl” fantasy of an 8 year old. that way she wouldn’t look as ridiculous dressed up in glitter and rainbows at 21, while still keeping her fan base of children.

  • @hannahmiller6178

This whole rebrand isn’t really a rebrand though. She’s still obnoxiously vibrant and over the top the color of the glitter just changed. A serious rebrand for her would’ve been similar to lady Gaga going from her early career to her style during the Joanne album. An actual reigned in more mature style and instead of trying to do an “edgy” pop song going for a serious ballad or acoustic number that just had great lyrics.

You nailed it when you said authenticity is the issue. Is anything about Jojo's personality authentic? She has been marketed since she was a little kid. I wonder if she really knows who she is. To me one issue, besides the un organic change, is her perspective. You can tell she is a dancer. The outfits look costume, the video set looks cheap, like a school theater play. She has the vision of a dancer not an holistic artistic view.

This feels like my 13 to 17 "I'm now grown up, mom, I can wear whatever I want" era tbh. But like... if I went through it now, at 21. Would be weird. Well, she'll eventually grow out of it like all of us and find out growing up is about much more than clothes, sex and drinking.

something in me tells me JoJo is honestly a really sweet and genuine person being pushed by other people to do things she doesn't want to really do... i'm probably very very wrong but hear me out. When she did her original "rebrand" where she cut her hair she genuinely felt older and more mature, like she finally figured out who she was and was slowly discovering herself but then she wasn't making enough money, and then the scandal with her own reality show came out and to cover for all of that her and her marketing team decided bad publicity was still publicity and we might as well do the same brand just a different color. that's what it feels like to me. i would love to see JoJo just be herself instead of who everyone around her and maybe she even feels like she has to be. maybe she could benefit from it. she also needs to cut off the problematic youtubers she hangs out with but besides that... (i know there are other things she's done of her own accord and everything but i hope what i said makes sense)

JoJo Siwa tried to pull a Miley Cyrus but she could have done that more gently by pulling the Big Sister card instead of being so extreme. She'd have kept her initial image but made it more mature without losing the authenticity that made her so famous in the first place. I honestly thought she'd go for that with her coming out (which was a really cool move).

That might just be my opinion, but I feel like a subtle mature version of music would do her wonders. Her audience, both old and new are between the ages 12-19 I feel like if she slowly released relatable songs about her struggles of fitting in for example, especially after a bad rebrand like this would give her good attention. If she talked angstily about the difficulties of meeting what people want from her as someone who’s almost always bullied regardless of what she does would definitely bring more people towards her. In a good way too.

just a quick correction, but Karma was indeed originally Miley Cyrus’ song, but it was handed to retired artist Brit Smith back in 2012(?). someone found Brits version that was produced by Timbaland on vimeo and posted that, then it blew up and thats where the “jojo copied the song” rumors came from, even though this is a common practice in the music industry. I never heard of the 2022 tiktok song that was mentioned

God BLESS this video of yours. Not only you have been just right and correct explaining about Jojo Siwa, but you even wasn't harsh, or judging like all the others did. You explained the main problem she is getting through and MAN all people should watch at THIS video. Jojo mostly for sure isn't still owner of her life, maybe she is still her mother's puppet, that's why she seems to be struggling to grow for real. Not talking about all her personal rage and trauma baggage and... BLESS YOU because you said it, she needs time, we need time, to wait that she makes that growing passage for real. So SHE DOESN'T HAVE to be treated that bad from the others!!! All and YOU TOO noticed her great genius mind and capabilities, it's impossible to not believe in her, she will let all of us in awe, I know that. Well I of course put a like, and if someone has doubts about Siwa and my words won't be enough I'll share this video of yours. Let's not hate Jojo Siwa!! 💕✨

I’m so sure she has never talk to someone her age (I’m her age), she’s been so shelter from everything that she doesn’t even understand that her haters is our own generation. She even acuse millennials that they are the only ones who criticize her. Also, why you want to be remembered as the cringiest person of the decade? It’s like she lives in a parallel universe were she doesn’t look pathetic and weird in the most uncharacteristic way possible.

I was a HUGE fan of JoJo for years, since her AUDC days. I understand that she needed to move away from the Nickelodeon kid brand, but as you mentioned, there still felt like there was authenticity. I have tons of bows, I've listened to her music for years, have her tour dvd, and am still obsessed with Dance Moms lol. When XOMG Pop! formed, I was there supporting. However, this, as well as her actions over the past year or so, have turned me off so much that I can't stand her anymore, and it really saddens me. She's said all press is good press, but other than for visibility, that's really not true. My hope is that in like 10 years time, she realizes and processes what she's actually gone through, gets away from her mom, and acknowledges it all, while moving forward trying to be the best person she can be. Not sure it'll happen, but I know I would become a fan again with that kind of growth.
