    NO One Could, can't and will never have the Impact these girls had on the history of the National Collegiate Dance Team Championships.

    Yes, that is the routine I wish someone would post. I believe that was 1984 or 1985 dance team competition. That was the best college dance team performance in the history of college dance. I think the whole squad was instructors at the time.

    I think my opinions stem from the kids that have a NATURAL DANCE ABILITY, but are unable to afford to pay for years of "technical training". Dance can never be described as only "pointing your toes, leaping, and hyper-extension". It comes from within. Eiteher you have it or you don't. This is why squads today appear to me as pretentious ballerinas. And I'd be willing to bet the "judges" from these competitions have an association with each other outside of judging like gyms and studios. TRUTH!!

    i remember that routine... they started with "shake your pants" by cameo, and used part of the dance break from their "batman" routine...

    I can't help but read the previous comments and have to comment. You can't compare Memphis' routine with today's simply because back then the competition was judged on choreography you would normally see in a half-time performance. Those performances usually incoporated popular hip-hop moves and tricks for crowd appeal, and a lot of the "technical" parts of the routine enhanced the performance. Today the emphasis is on technique. It's not right, wrong, good or bad... just different.

    my opinion is this... back then's poms is today's cheer. Today's pom is using poms to create visual effects... and usually one song instead of a mix. Memphis is my inspiration for cheer leading.

    I think that the 1994 routine was their best routine ever. Any chance you can post it on here?

  • @nykohlus
    @nykohlus14 жыл бұрын

    @Greenkai3000 yeah it would... today's competitions are broken up by styles (jazz, hip hop, etc.) which is cool i guess, but call me "old school", i like just seeing the one category and either a routine hot or it's not... lol

  • @Greenkai3000

    @nykohlus Wouldn't it be cool if both styles/techniques were put together in today's dance team competitions though?

    HEY!!!!!....I NEED help. tell me I'm not crazy, or did Memphis State do a routine in th 80's where they used "America" by prince in music mix? Plus, this is when I first saw the "aerials -to-your-seat- move" and back tucks in a dance team comp. AM I NUTZZZ OR, IS THIS HISTORICAL REALITY?

    Thanks for sharing your opinion, however my position still stands on competitions of today... spins, leaps, and leg catches are what 90% of the content in competition dance routines. Traditionally, college dance teams used poms and did kick lines to be exact. I am not under-rating ballerinas, they just need to perform in ballets not competitions. There are soo many other elements of dance that can be incorporated into winning and entertaining routines besides the "10-years-ago-leg catch".

    I think that's what makes competitions sooo boring now because all you all do is spin. ANYBODY can work on Fouettes and pirouettes, but Originality has become obsolete with the squads of today. That's just my opinion.

    The excitement of competitions back then made them fun to watch. Now it's all about pretentious ballerinas doing a million spins...BOOOOOOORING

    One last thing, Lordoftheflies, another repetitive aspect of competitions of today is the music used in the routines...I'm soooo bored with the "ding" and "whip" sound effects...IT'S BEEN DONE TO DEATH.
