I love tomato pie and this looks good! A tip for keeping the crust even less soggy is to put cheese on the bottom before the tomatoes. This will protect your crust a little.

I'm so thankful I had parents who also planted seeds of goodness in their children. When I was about 6 or 7 , it was almost Christmas, and I told my mother about the new little friend down the street who had a Christmas Tree with no decorations on it. My mother came home from the grocery store with a box of pretty little red ornaments and she went with me to the little girls house to put them on her tree. I think of that little girl every Christmas and wonder how she is doing . I had wonderful parents. Oh, gosh, now I am crying. 🥰

I just came across your channel and I love it. Thank you so much for your southern down to earth delicious recipes. I would like to offer you a little advice. Under your videos you should link to your cookbooks so people can easily buy them. If I were you, I would also sign up as an amazon affiliate and link to your pans and anything else you use and tell people they can find the link to them in the description. That way, you can earn a small commission to support your channel. Lastly, another thing you may consider is making a downloadable copy of your cookbook that people can pay a lesser price on your site and just download it. This is one of those things that’s hands off for you once it’s done and no printing costs to you. If you can’t tell, I have been in the Internet business for years so I thought maybe I could help pay it forward by giving you this advice. Anyway, thank you so much for your delicious recipes.

I think the butter cracker crust you added on top is a great idea!! Puts the finishing touch on the pie!!

I just randomly had this video in my feed and thank the stars I did! First. This yankee thinks MeMe is just the best! Second. I absolutely LOVE tomatoes and I had never even heard of a tomato pie! But I really can’t wait ti try this and get your cookbook. Lastly, hearing your stories reminds me of the stories my grandma used to tell me about growing up on the farm with her 10 brothers and sisters. She passed away in March 2020 right at the beginning of the covid lockdowns, but not from covid. Her and I were very close and I helped care for her in her final years. I miss her dearly and this is just the reminders I didn’t know I needed.

Thank you for sharing your recipes.. Tomatoes 🍅 have always been one of my many veggies or fruit too eat. This recipe really has me wanting to make it. I’ve been trying to eat healthier but I just might have too try this it looks Amazing... You know my sweet Daddy was always love too give and I seen that my whole life and my Mother and Daddy raised my brother and I in Church and we were taught at an early age about Jesus! When you are raised like that and you watch your parents serve others. I think every child wants too be like their Mom or Dad. I wanted too be like my Mother that had a relationship with Jesus since she was 15yrs old and she’s been serving Him for 62yrs.. I knew that I wanted to love people like she did because she serve Him and He loved everyone. Also I’ve been a blessing to others because I seen how my Daddy would give and give and it brought him great Joy too see people happy. So as years go by I turn 16 I get a job and worked and then that job became a career for me even after I graduated from school. In that amount of time I had seen a lot and I knew that I wanted to help others. That’s just what I did through my job. It was so rewarding to be a Blessing to others. So now I have children and they’ve seen me be a blessing now they do what they seen me do there whole life. Both are a big blessing to their communities and now my grandchildren are blessing others.. To say my heart is full is an understatement.. So thank you for sharing and being a Blessing...

A homemade crust and sweet (seasoned as for apple) green tomato pie is the classic.

So i made two of these last night. After i put my cheese mix topping on i bring my baking sheet to the oven and would you believe i saw a pan full of sauteed onions on the stove top. Realizing i forgot that important step i quickly spread my onions on top. It all worked out good. Adding the buttery crust after 30 minutes of baking time worked out great. The two slices i ate last night tasted so much better than the chilled slice i had this morning. So i recommend microwaving a slice if you have chilled the pie overnight. It seems that having a cold slice hides the flavor of butter and the salt/pepper. Thank you for sharing.

@@memesrecipessc Absolutely. The buttery crisp topping adds a remarkable layer to the flavor but is hidden when chilled. I am doing my best to hold off on making my next two pies and can hardly wait. I sent one pie to my next door neighbor so i am down to my last slice. On the next two i make i am going to try something daring and incorporate some crumbled bacon on top of the onions. You recipe is delicious MeMe and this time around i promise to place the sauteed onions on top of the tomatoes rather than on top of the cheese mix. EDIT: Friday evening. I just finished making my second pair of Tomato pies. This time around i did not forget to place my sauteed onions on top of the tomato slices. I did cut my tomatoes in half before slicing so that they would more easily fit. As for the cheese topping i also included crumbled bacon into the mix. Thank you again for the inspiration.

Well, I just lost 120 pounds after weight loss surgery. Had lost my love of cooking. But the garden is going gang busters in NC and I picked 40 Cherokee Purple tomatoes today. I have the pie in the oven right now. Followed your directions all the way. Yes, there is no mayonnaise other than Duke's mayo from Richmond VA!!!! Won't use any other brand. Duke's has no sugar and that is perfect for my new diet. You remind me of my grandmother. I miss her sooooo much! Thanks for the recipe. You didn't tell us where to get the cookbook!!!

What a sweet story about your mama and daddy!

Im a MeMe, too. My little granddaughter moved 11 hours away last weekend and broke my heart. She live 5 minutes away from me her whole little life and now she's gone. I made tomato casserole last week for the first time because I had it at a little country diner. I had never heard of tomato casserole before so I had to try it and it was delicious. The only thing different is tomatoes are cooked and you add Italian seasoning or basil. It reminded me of bruschetta.

Interesting recipe the only tomato pie I’ve seen is French country recipe. I’m Canadian know some southern foods but this is new to me. Kind of quiche like 💖 I think I will try it .

I bet some Durkee's french fried onions would be good crumbled up in that topping too. That or some crumbled bacon.
