Ms. Me Me, i'm a 65 year old african American , As a child i remember this recipe and mama's like you. It didn't matter what color you were a mama fed a hungry child. We didn't have all of the foolishness back then we are having to date. Thank you for this great recipe and great childhood memories.

Hi Meme. Please try my recipe for crust topping. It’s awesome. 1 1/2 cups of self rising flour 1 1/2 cups of buttermilk 1 stick of salted butter Cut in butter with flour then mix in buttermilk stir and drop small dollops all over the top of chicken pie. Bake 350 35min then 400 for 10min if biscuits need to brown more. AMAZING 🤩

I had a recipe almost identical some years back except it also called for milk, I'm not sure how much though. But it always turned out to be a hit! I enjoy Kay-Kay's laughter and her "mmm hmmm" it always tickles me God bless

I’ve been making this for years. I got the original recipe from Southern Living. My grown children love it. I put a solid layer of the Pillsbury pie crust on top because my family loves the crust. A must is cubes of fresh potatoes pre boiled but firm and sage is delicious in pot pie. If you don’t have heavy cream use milk and cream of chicken and you don’t have to use flour.

This is the best recipe ever!! I changed it up just a tiny bit, I used potato chunks instead of the peas (lol, picky eaters), and then I poured the mixture into 2 deep dish pie shells (9") and covered the top with the pillsbury pie crusts, we love pie crust so a 2 crusted was a must. I baked both pies on a cookie sheet for one hour and omg were they good!! I have been wanting to make a homeade chicken pie for years, but all the recipes call for 50 ingredients, lol, this was by far the best, thank you so much!!

Made this tonight for our Sunday family dinner and it was a huge hit. Zero leftovers, everyone went back for a 2nd helping.

Thank you. I love chicken pie. The only thing different I think I would do is to put an egg wash on the pie dough before baking.

And we add 1/2 cup sour cream..its yummy 😋

I call this Chicken Pot Pie but I put it in a big round deep casserole dish! I make twice the filling amount you did and make mine with more juice. My family likes it like that! I make a very similar pot pie recipe, except I put a pie crust in the bottom of my dish and pre-bake it till just as it gets golden then I pour in my filling and then add another crust on the top. I grew up eating those frozen pot pies which aren't as good as home made BUT I did always love that bottom crust the best because of the gravy soaking into it just a bit. Yummy! Thanks for sharing your sister's friends recipe. I still enjoyed watching you. Also, McCormick's makes a poultry seasoning blend that I find delicious in the filling. You should give it a try. It really enhances all those flavors. Happy cooking! 😊

My son is having dental surgery today and will love this. My granddaughter is also coming for a visit and loves chicken pie.

Thanks for sharing a unique way of preparing Chicken Pie. Everybody has their own way of making chicken pot pie and think that the recipe they make is the best, but hearing this video gets you to want to try somebody else's version to see whether they have something well-worth making. I think this one is.

Looks yummy! Just curious as to why you cook most things on the bottom rack of your oven? If you had it on the top rack it would brown quicker. Just wondering?? Thanks for your videos ;-)

Why would it brown quicker on top, the heating element is on the bottom of the oven

@@cynrok My oven has both a top and bottom element. The bottom element does not brown the top of items, unless you burn them.

@@loopev mine has a top element but it only turns on if you use the broiler, which is how most ovens work. if yours does both at once that must be something new, meme's oven looks like the typical older one with just the bottom element working unless you use the broiler.
