Melly's Project 1987 Honda Rebel 250 "Barney" Part 16 (Tank Mount Fitting)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

More work figuring out exactly how we are going to mount the CB500T fuel tank to Barney's frame. Several clearance issues have come up and will need to be sorted out and we have a few ideas. The new Street Tracker look is really shaping up on the Rebel 250. Barney is coming along nicely. Getting excited to see it progress.
Thanks for watching! Much appreciated.
Cheers!

Almost got the tank clearance issues sorted! I am going to have to cut down the riser bolts and the bottom rubber bushing but there is more than enough mounting surface so it should still be strong and safe. There is more material on Melly's Honda Rebel where the risers bolt into the upper yoke than her Triumph Speedmaster has! LOL ;-) Next up.... find the right welder! Cheers bro! Mike

yeah, these projects are all a raft of tiny details to get tucked away, i love it when you see a bike build "unfinished project" for sale, and they claim "All the major work done, just needs finishing".. and thats usually 70% of any bike build..lol If you going for a welder, a Gas MIG is easiest to master when you're starting out..! Love to Melly.. keep safe both. D&Px

Eastwood has a Mig 135 Flux / Gas welder which will run off our standard wall outlet voltage (110vac in the USA) that is really affordable. Just waiting to get the money saved up and if Eastwood has any sales. I think the subframe idea will work a treat. Allows me to do all the dirty work off of Barney and simply bolt on an adapter to mount everything. When I am done (other than clearance to the riser mount) it will be a total bolt on conversion! Heck if I had the time and resources I'd spec a kit together to sell! There are a zillion Honda Rebel 250 / 125 (and clones) out there! LOL. Take care! Mike

Sure thing, we hear a lot of good things about Eastwood products, and Lincoln electric too...but cant buy them here.. Also did you consider swapping out the back wheel for a taller one, it'll nail the cafe look as all the original bike had same size wheels front and back..?

On the CMX 250 I'd have to re-hoop and re-lace the back wheel to go up in size. May do that later on as one of those last detail items. May be an excuse to lean a new trick and do it myself. I can get a spare rear wheel cheap enough off eBay and have it powder coated to match the Ironstone Bronze that we did Barney's current wheels. Will keep it in the idea basket for sure!

what, no Kelly? Booooo! Ok, great ideas there Mike. Getting around the spaghetti of wires in that box isn't, as you mention, for everybody.and, believe it or not, it probably is the most daunting task of the majority of home projects. You could do a parallel series of videos on bike electrics, starting easy like choosing a multimeter then going through ohms amps and volts, connecting it in series or parallel, checking continuity and so on. All of this, of course, with Melly ! Great seeing you mate, project is... really... Bitchin! PS what is this "winter" you speak of?

Who is this Kelly? LOL..... Yea bro, if I had time to start a motorcycle electronics series I would. For now I will be happy just to eek out free time to spend with Melly working on Barney. Next agenda item.... gotta procure a welder! ;-) Cheers! Mike & Melly
