Project 2016 Indian Scout Sixty Part 9 (Updates, Custom Paint & Disassembly)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Stick around till the end of the video to see a sneak peek at the new paint on my 2016 Indian Scout Sixty (a.k.a. "Burt"!
After 3yrs of saving and planning, today I begin the process of stripping down my Scout Sixty for custom paint. I am extremely excited to finally get this milestone accomplished. It's going to be EPIC!!
I also answer some of the questions I have received over the past 3yrs about my Scout Sixty. Ol' Burt is finally coming together and will soon be as I had imagined it 3yrs ago.
Thanks to TPN Color Lab for all the hard work and custom mixing of my one-off paint. I love it. Check them out online!!! You can ship bike parts for them to paint also. Great guys at TPN Color Lab!

    Agreed. When you start to break it all down. That 60 motor is pretty cool. And the missing “5th” gear is not really an issue in my opinion. For me. The bobber was a just have to have. The big bore kit that revolution performance offers that also fits the 60 makes that difference even greater!

    Dunno Jay, 90% of the times I find myself shifting to that missing 6th gear. I have no idea why they decided to remove it in the 60.

    MAD Cannon fair. I’d have to double check. But I believe the shift from 5th to 6th only drops me about 400-500rpm. 75mph has me at 4000rpm I think? I agree. 6 speed is probably always better. But for how much more?

    @@jay_fast I haven't tried the 1199 myself. If it's only 400 RPM then yeah, not worth it. Convincing my foot there is no 6th is a different issue tho. 😅 Edit: Just went to work today. 75mph = 4000 RPM in 5th on the Sixty. Surely you should get below that.

    Not sure if people know but the final gear ratio (5th in the Scout Sixty, 6th in the 1133 Scout) is identical. Its 4.087 : 1 Actually the gear ratio's for 1,2,3,4 and final are exactly the same. Indian removed the "5th" gear from the Sixty for some reason, so technically it's the 6 speed's ratio's minus 5th gear.. When you are in top gear on either bike the final drive ratio is exactly the same at 2.357 : 1. The Scout Sixty Specs. www.indianmotorcycle.com/en-us/scout-sixty/specs/ The 1133 Scout Specs. www.indianmotorcycle.com/en-us/scout/specs/ Both bikes should be at a very similar RPM when in final gear. For the Scout Sixty there is just more stretch between 4th and final as it's missing the 1133's 5th. Thanks for watching! Mike

    Random question, what are those details at the ends of your handle bars? Just started watching your videos, love 'em!

  • @RenchRanch

    @RenchRanch

    5 жыл бұрын

    They are bar end weights from a company called HVMP. The Scout's have a 1" bar that tapers down to 7/8" at the ends. So I have Biltwell black Renegade grips with the ends punched out. Then I installed the HVMP universal 7/8" "heavy" bar end weights. It helps reduce the numbness in my hands when riding on long trips. The Scout's engine is very smooth, but my hands tend to be sensitive to this. Regardless the combination of the Biltwell Renegade grips and HVMP bar-end weights really looks nice IMO. You do have to file the inside of the handlebar a bit as there is some flashing from when Indian welded it. Otherwise it's a bolt on job. www.hvmp.com/HVMP-anti-vibration-motorcycle-bar-ends-p/f11x4.htm Thanks for watching! Mike

    Your build helped inspire me to buy a used 2016 Scout Sixty a few weeks ago. The previous owner cut off the brake light, rear turn signal, and harness connectors. When I tried to reattach them with new connectors, I realized the wires from the brake are not the same color as the wiring harness connectors. Do you happen to have a picture or diagram that you could share of which colors should be connected to one another?

    I don't have the wring diagram handy. I am out of town for a while. It may be a while till I can take a look at it. You can try stopping buy your local Indian Dealer or ask on the Indian Motorcycle forum. I tried looking at my last video on slo-mo to see what the colors are but the factory harness have a cover sleeve over the wires to protect them and it's not easy to make out the colors. Good luck. If I find out I'll post a reply. Mike

    Question about the commander upgrade, Was the new mapping provided by Indian?, Could having a commander waive your warranty if you have engine issues?

  • @RenchRanch

    @RenchRanch

    11 ай бұрын

    At the time I bought my Dynojet Power Commander, there wasn't any mapping for the Scout Sixty (999cc). I bought the unit for the regular Scout (1133cc). Dynojet (Power Commander) sent me a generic profile that was good enough to get my 2016 Scout Sixty running safely until it could be Dyno Tuned. My local Indian dealer sent it out to be Dyno'd at a certified Dynojet tuner and it's been running perfectly ever since. If I had it to do over again I would have used the Power Vision ECU flash. The Dynojet Power Vision wasn't out for the Scout's yet. The advantage there is you can always return your ECU flash back to the Stock flash file if you have any issues. The Power Commander is a "piggy-back" type of tuning system. The other advantage the Power Vision (other than zero installation, it's just a cable and re-flash of the ECU) has on the Scout is that Indian does a partial throttle body close above a certain RPM to (IMO) intentionally limit the Scout Sixty's peak power and torque. Otherwise it is a lot closer in power to the "bigger Scout and would probably be difficult for customers to justify the added cost. The Power Vision eliminates this. If you did no mods other than the Power Vision flash, you would be surprised at how much power it makes back. I don't remember the numbers, but I am sure there are some dyno charts you can Google to see. Jump from 2016 (when my Scout Sixty was new) to 2023, the Power Vision is the way to go. There are a lot of parts and combinations that users and Dynojet have a library of ECU tunes for. So you shouldn't need to do what I did and have a Professional do a full Dyno Tuning. Also you get the throttle body close removed so no cut in peak power. For the Warranty, that's a "it depends" answer. Some dealers (mine for sure) are very willing to work with the customer for tuning as to honoring warranty claims. It really depends on your relationship. Technically Indian / Polaris doesn't have to honor the warranty if you have been messing around with the bike beyond stock. For Me I had a good enough relationship with my local Indian dealer that they supported me from day one with all my mods. My bike is no longer in warranty as it's over 7yrs old now. I have had zero issues and other than oil changes and regular maintenance, no problems. I'd say, if in doubt, wait it out. Once the warranty is expired then it's no an issue as you are on the hook for repairs. Not sure if this gave you the answers you were looking for. Thanks for watching! Very much appreciated. Mike

    what a bike you have there i was toying between the triumph speedmaster or the indian scout i have to say to me the Indian looks better does it go better or is it about the same i live in rugby warwickshire England there seems to be more custom parts as well for the indian plus there is a dealer only a few miles away from me in birmingham UK not alabama lol the original city , So i am leaning towards the indian as its sitting posture looks good as i have a bad back had a major operation but iam 5 feet 11 inches tall iam on disability now as an accident at work as a master mechanic on cars bikes and trucks i worked for the royal automobile club for 18 years 5 years at college plus a full apprenticeship over 6 years National craftsman 8 hour exam on practical mechanics and electrics having the flu and a double nose bleed while doing the exam not even abler to leave the exam to go to the toilet or its a fail and i still passed with honors and spent two weeks in bed to recover LOL. Your bike looks well built the chrome work look well done the whole bike just looks great love the sweeping lines of it and that new exhaust you put on sounds absolutely brilliant can you tell me the name of the exhaust so i could get one sent over please. The Indians own add on parts seem a bit expensive but so are the triumph parts is there plenty of aftermarket parts for the scout i want mine to be as my wife does not drive or ride a bike i myself haven't ridden a bike for thirty years as i sold my bikes for the down payment for the house we are living in i started riding motor bikes when i was seven joined a junior scramble club and trials club and grasstrack and when i was ten i joined the local motorcycle display team called the blue coats where i did the fire jumps and car jumps people jumps the pyramid and the ladder ride you name it up until i was sixteen then i left as i was now to old so i became the team mechanic did senior motocross with the big boys and enduro racing until i got married at twenty four september 1984 then i stopped riding and have missed it every day. My three kids now grown up and did not know i could ride a bike until my son bought a moto racer on road bike he came round to show me so i said can i have a go he reluctantly said yes as he had no clue i could ride a bike so he was trying to teach me down are back private lane of coarse my wife new but the others came out to watch me crash or fall off the bike or so they thought so i pretended to jerk the bike watching there faces in the mirror's then i pulled a wheelie for about a 100 feet then i did a front wheel dip turn were you lock the front brake bring the back end up off the ground and swing it around a 180 degrees then i wheelied back came up to them and there was a look of shock all there mouths were gaping open me and the wife were peeing are selves laughing to see there faces i wish i had a camera, As i rode his bike all those years before came rushing back to me and as they say i have the BUG again so now as my parents have passed away i have got to sell their house between me and my sister so i will have some spare cash, So a two seater Indian scout 1100 plus machine with spoked wheels and a removable front screen for long distance travel and might even get a trailer for it to so we can have a camping Holiday down Devon on the south coast about 180 miles away have two weeks down there that will be the plan so i will fit backrests on both seats and a rear rack attached to the sissy bar. I love the panniers you have put on your bike and the new color is amazing your video work you and your wife or partner does is brilliant can't wait for the next installment i have liked all your videos and have subscribed and shared it to all my facebook friends all the best John from Rugby UK.ps will let you know when i get my new indian bike.

    I think the Scout Sixty can give the new Triumph Speedmaster / Bobber a run for the money. IMHO it handles better. BUT for sure either the Scout or Scout Bobber with the 1133 engine will smoke the new Speedmaster. BUT everyone prefers different bikes and riding styles / positions. All I can say is demo each one. Buy what you like. Thanks for watching, cheers! Mike

    BTW, the exhaust is the Bassani "Road Rage" 2 into 1 long version. It comes in black or chrome. It is also available in a shorter silencer. The saddle bags are from a company in California USA called "The Leatherworks". They are the Pony Express 103's. I also purchased their Easy Brackets so I can remove them with a key. Leatherworks has lots of styles available and can do custom work as each are made to order. Extremely good quality and less than half the cost of the Indian factory saddle bags. Easy Brackets come in 2 types for the Scout's depending on if you have the factory passenger / pinion seat & backrest or not. There are lots of aftermarket parts now for the Scout's. I have some good friends who live in the Poole / Dorset UK area. Melly and I have visited ol Blighty 3 times over the past 4yrs. Got to visit Moore Speed Racing in Bouremouth. They are an Indian dealer and also they have a lot of custom parts that they sell & make in-house for the Scouts. My experience over the past 3yrs with my Scout Sixty is that there just isn't that big a difference between a "Stock" 1133 Scout and the 999 Scout Sixty other than several thousand dollars / pounds. With the Power Vision CX you can easily plug & play tuning to take full advantage of go fast bits like intakes, exhaust, etc... My tuned Scout Sixty makes almost the same hp (not HP sauce! LOL) as the "bigger" 1133 and it makes over 10ft/lbs more torque. Indian / Polaris have really de-tuned the Sixty to keep it more on par with a Sportster 883. Even without tuning, a Scout Sixty can easily walk away from a 1200cc Sportster. They are great bikes. I think you will really like it. On a positive note, in the UK you won't see too many Scout's parked outside the Pub! Cheers and thanks for watching! Mike & Melly
