Melly's Project 1987 Honda Rebel 250 "Barney" Part 15 (Street Tracker Mock Up)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Big day today, Melly and I do a little work on Barney to mock up a Hot Wings Glass Flat Tracker-1 tail section and fender combo onto Barney. The little Honda Rebel 250 is going to get styled after a street tracker. Lots of plans in the works for Barney, but today was all about getting the look & stance right.
Still need to adjust the tank and fender till it's perfect. Then we will need to make up brackets to mount it all. I also have to decide on a 110V Mig Welder that will do a good job. Fun times in the garage!
Thanks for watching! Much appreciated.
Cheers!

The 'Reb's "overbuilt" because it was a early 1980's design. Everything Honda built from that era was like that. :-D I am glad y'all are doing this project. I hate to see Barney turn into something else simply because it looks so darn good as it is! BUT, the uniqueness of what it is to become will be awesome too!

Not to worry.... Melly and I will sit and stare at Barney until we are sure whatever change we make will look just right. Can't rush these things. The last thing we want to do is just bodge it together. ;-) It will look great. I think it's taking shape on it's own unique direction and the end result should be really cool. Thanks for watching! Cheers! Mike & Melly

That's really going to look cool. Way better than a bobber. Melly's quite the speller, too!

Surprising well put together, and yes, can definitely see why people bobber them out. Looking forward to seeing the results :)

With some longer shocks, and a scrambler type exhaust it will look really cool. I can see your vision for Barney. It's great Honda made the rear loom so you don't have to shorten it, and chop it about.

In your previous video you mentioned you may be moving the wires into the light assembly and get rid of the electronics box. If you do that I'd be very interested in that box.

I am holding onto it for the time being until I get to the wiring. Just need to ensure I can cram it all into the headlight bucket. Will put up a vid of the stuff I am going to let go once I know we won't be using it. Thanks for watching, cheers! Mike & Melly

Michael Rench figured I’d ask. My 86 doesn’t have the cover so I think I’m gonna fashion one out of some 4mm abs plastic.

Man this is awesome. This is very similar to what I wanna do with my rebel. Love bobbers but it’s over played now. Curious of the longer shocks u picked. I was reading about how I can use the Honda 250 nighthawk shocks.

He is basically turning this into a NightHawk with the inch of rear lift, the seat/sport fender, lower handlebars, dual clocks. They have the same motor and share many parts. Yes if you're over 5'10" add the longer shocks and lift or extra pad the seat. The final look was very nostalgic of the old Twin Hawk that was retired to have the CB250 and Rebel join the line in the early 80s. So if you find a 2015 Rebel with a few hundred miles, you can retrofit it to look like a 70s vintage bike without the age and rusty tank of a vintage bike. I have a 2008 CB250 in the barn for scenic switchback loop rides under 150 miles and errands to town. It rides, sits and looks more like a bigger standard bike than the old Rebel stock. I only use my bigger bike for trips and highway runs.

What kind of drag bars are those? Do you by any chance have a link to buy them?

Currently they are Biker Master 7/8" European "Tracker Bars". We recently purchased 7/8 Biltwell Tracker bars as they have the cross brace and a pad. In reality, just about any 7/8" handlebar will work as long as the brake and clutch cables are long enough. The wiring and throttle will work fine. On the 80's era Honda Rebels the handle bars are a bit longer than the newer Rebel 250's so there is plenty of extra slack. Cheers! Thank you! I'm getting a brand new 2016 rebel 250 on Monday as my first bike and I want to change the handle bar since I am not a big fan of it.
