Melinda French Gates says she is stepping down from The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation that she founded with her then-husband Bill Gates in 2000. As part of her agreement to resign, she says she’s getting $12.5 billion to commit to her future philanthropies. NBC’s Joe Fryer reports for TODAY.

Interesting that she can just take the money and move it. I thought a foundation once created was seperate from the creator and thus the tax benefit. Anyone not as dumb as me have an explanation?
