This episode was sooo good - the host Jase was perfect with explaining how the area was! I feel like getting a host to walk you through the hood telling you their stories but who is articulate definitely makes your videos more of the documentary-style ones! Big ups Spanian for pushing through with the videos. You lost me with your last couple because of the meet up vibes, but he’s come full circle again ☺️

South melbourne is the best place in Melbourne hands down My dad lived in raglan flats for 45 years, then we lived in park towers and Dorcas St flats. I wouldn't have changed it for the world. The love loyalty and respect we all had growing up within the neighbourhood is insane as kids we seen things kids shouldnt see but it was always the older boys like Andre (smokk) in this vid that kept us safe growing up and still does today... For anyone interested in one of the lesser known historic crime syndicates that used to run these areas I would say start with the 'Painters and Dockers,' (Not the band) Basically gangsters that came out of the ship yard trade unions and ran tax + crime in parts of the city from the 50's - 80's. Naturally the working class unionist from all different fraternities and industries were notorious for huge violent brawls in pubs all across South, North and Port Melbourne to Collingwood, Fitzroy well before that.. So yeah South and Port Melbourne are affluent now, but its working class roots go way back to the shipping yards.

This is so much better then that last video that one was just ridiculous with all the people, this is a proper video not many people and a proper walk through to show us what it's like to live in that place, only thing I can think is the last place he went Logan, someone leaked that he was coming and it got out of hand

South Melbourne is probably one of the nicest suburbs; it’s actually one of my favorites to walk around. However, there are many great suburbs in Melbourne, most of them, in fact. Melbourne is an amazing city overall. I lived in St Kilda for over ten years, near Grey Street, which was considered one of the most 'dangerous' areas, yet I had ZERO problems there. He actually filmed 200m from my house at 23:00. The most 'dangerous' thing I experienced there was a guy asking if I wanted some weed. I'm pretty sure he just wanted to give it to me for free lol.

OMG the Gatwick! This doco bought back so much memories growing up in Melbourne and the Gatwick was one place I lived in for a period of time before moving to Sydney. I wasn't on drugs, I was a young 18yr old in and out the system in my earlier teens and Gatwick was a home for a period of time trying to figure out my life!

I found it funny how the girl said back packers used to live at the Gatwick. Back in the 80's my mate lived there with his dad and even the backpackers wouldn't live there. Most weekends an ambulance would be out the front for the overdosed junkies.

I used to do the plumbing maintenance in South/Port Melbourne, St Kilda, Prahan. South/Port Melbourne were easily the best housing area to do maintenance in. St Kilda and Prahan were a bit more sketchy, but still ok. A lot of good people in housing there. Never had any safety issues. Respect the tenants, and they respect you back.
