Mel Bonis - Bourrée, for orchestra (1904/1909)
Composer: Mélanie Hélène "Mel" Bonis (January 21, 1858 - March 18, 1937)
Orchestra: Bucharest Symphony Orchestra conducted by Benoit Fromanger
A little piece from a set of dances with a mysteriously playful mood, beautifully subtly orchestrated
Score available at: imslp.org/wiki/Pavane,_saraba...
CD recording available at: www.mel-bonis.com/EN/CD/59/CD...
Note: At measure 38, the recording bassoon 1 plays E, instead of a D as written (in my edition here and the original Demets edition). Based on the piano version, this should actually be C♯
Note: At 1:41, the horn staff is duplicated. This error is not in the IMSLP version and was accidentally added in preparing the edition for this video which uses fewer staves.
Note: Measure 47 Oboe 1 G♯ should be F♯
These are all fixed in the most recent version on IMSLP.

imagine this were choreographed, mel bonis never failed to write such graceful and magical music
There is so much packed in just 2.5 minutes. That was magical. I'll have to listen to more of this.
Some otherworldly charm!
beautiful, mel bonis, lili boulanger, the french womanly style is perfection
the first full piece i learned on piano was pensées d'automne by mel bonis, that and her Eb barcarolle are some of my favorite little piano pieces
Thank you! I was whaiting someone to upload this, you are the greatest
This is so lovely!
Gorgeous
Wow, I'd gotten so used to hearing the subtonic here that the A-sharp in m. 19 felt straight-up odd!
Cool, reminds me a lot of some modern film music.
❤😮❤
😍
Another possible mistake in your edition: there seems to be something wrong with the horn stave allocation on the system at 1:41?

Yeah, it's duplicated. I prepared a 2nd edition for the video using fewer staves than the one published on IMSLP, and accidentally put this double staff in. Thanks for catching that
This is a lot like Stravinsky in orchestration and gesture. Listen to his Dances Concertantes if you don’t believe me.
bar 47 in the oboe - f# not g#?

Yup, that is a straight up error on my part. Thanks
